The air was still cold but at least winter's grip was lessoning on the land. Piercing blue eyes darted to-and-fro, obscured completely by the branches of a leafy tree. Twin purple ears peeked up over the canpoy of a tree followed by a large feline head. Her view was now crystal clear. The female marveled at how high up she was. For the past five minutes she had struggled to the very tippy top of the tree and now reaped the rewards of her effort. A marvelous sight of the forest. Her eyes sparkled in the brilliant sun as a small parted her maw. It was a beautiful day. It wasn't warm per se, just a tad on the nippy side in fact, but the sun was out and shining so what more did she need? "How pretty." She commented to herself, disappearing back down into the tree. She made her way to the lower branches until she could see the ground right beneath her.

Unfurling her wings ever so slightly she glided gracefully to the ground, her paws feeling the few remaining tidbits of snow that clung to the brown grass. She took notice of the green stalks of new life shooting out of the sea of brown. The nippy wind blew at her fur, causing her to close her eyes and take in the feeling. She had herself a seat below the tree, taking this time to lick the back of her paw. There was no time like the present to get a little grooming done. She removed the bracelet she always kept around her paw and laid it carefully on the ground quite close to her.

"Oof..." Paws recoiled quickly, wings pushing against the air. Flying through a forest full of trees probably wasn't the wisest thing to do. Flareon had never been one for convention, however. The same four paws flicked back out, catching the tree he'd nearly impacted moments before. Now it acted as a runway, giving him a bit more speed as he continued his unguided ride. A laughter fell from his maw. No singular tree could conquer him! But a line of trees... That was a different story altogether. Air-breaks were something the male didn't come equipped with. Instead, he was forced to make an awkward turn, letting out a howl as paws scraped the bark anyway. Hissing in agitation and flapping his wings wildly, he was able to maneuver through the offending trees with minimal damage.

When all fours finally contacted the ground, the little bit of snow seemed to shy away. The flare of his embarrassment seemed to heat the air. Rust colored eyes darted around the scenery. It would be just his luck that someone saw his folly. He tried so hard to be cool, after all. Huffing and plopping down on his bum, he spread and strained his abused wings to examine the damage. A few feathers stuck up here and there, but nothing big. They rustled and settled once more at his back. "What a day..."

After the female had gotten done bathing her forelegs she had replaced the small human trinket back onto her paw and moved onto her wings. Spreading them she used her long tail like a feather duster and brushed away bits of dirt and grass that clung to her elegant feathers. After making sure they were satisfactory she let them settle on her back again, idly watching her tail flicker back and forth in front of her haunches. It was a beautiful day and yet a lonely silence hung over the forest. Well, it wasn't totally silent seeing as a few birds who had dared venture home early were singing their hearts out but she kind of wished she had a bit of company from her own kind. Surprised at such a feeling, seeing as she was often a loner sort of gal, she scowled to herself, watching the grass bend in the breeze.

A noise other then the birds caught her attention, causing her to turn her brilliant blue eyes skyward. First there was the crack of something hitting tree bark anda sound that sounded vaguely like hissing and the wild flapping of wings. She deduced that these wings couldn't have possibly belonged to a bird. She stood up, curious now as to what was happening. It didn't take before a fire-red object came into her view, masked partially by the canopy above her. She blinked a few times to make sure the thing wasn't an illusion. It wasn't. She watched as he descended to the ground a few ayrds away, quirking an eyebrow quizzically. Perhaps this day wouldn't be so boring after all. As she got closer to the feline male she made out his distinctive features. Instead of feathers on his tail he had a massive bundle of fluff that looked so fluffy it made her want to go poke at it.

The same fluff was on his head and around his neck. From afar she watched him spread his wings and put two and two together. The snapping of bark obviously meant this male had had some flight troubles. Amused she began to wander forewards, never having been the shy type. If he was malicious she'd just have to beat some sense into him. She cleared the thin line of trees that seperated them and came to a hault when she was but five or so feet from the male. "Nice landing, fluffy." She said in her cool voice, half smirking in amusement.

Enough time had passed that he was sure he was safe. Guard beginning to relax, he stretched one of his wings back. Nosing at it, he licked and nibbled at whatever feathers didn't want to go down without a fight. One down. He admired his work genuinely, though he still had to remind himself that the slightly matted spots would look better once dry. Carefully the wing folded back and he was ready to do the other one. Before he could even stretch it forward, however, a horrible sound met his ears and realization spread throughout his form.

"Haha..." He let out as he stared at the ground between his paws, half fun, half sarcasm. This was the worst thing that could possibly happen to a guy like Flareon. His screw up evident in anyone's eyes but his own. And while he couldn't know that she hadn't seen the actually landing itself, it was enough to hear the collected ridicule. Eventually he let his gaze rise. Eyes quickly found the origin of his ever withering pride. "Thanks." A smirk crossed his features to cover the embarrassment he felt now.

Looking away momentarily, he stood, fluffy tail wiggling out behind him in more of an agitated way than a happy one. "I don't go flying in the forest very often," he admitted, huffing slightly and puffing himself up defensively. "I prefer the open skies." Whatever had made him want to take a midday flutter through the trees was a mystery, really. Now he really wished he hadn't. Females were NOT supposed to think he was foolish.

Atsuko had only been joking in her tone but as she watched his movements, though his face was hidden from her, she wondered if she'd actually offended him. She sighed mentally. At the sound of his voice she confirmed the subject ot be male. She met his eyes easily, tilting her head to the side curiously at his expression. It seemed to be a mixture of deflated ego and embarrassment. Soon it was replaced by a smirk though. Atsuko resisted the urge to chuckle. She could already tell this guy would probably be quite a character. She had herself a seat where she stood, using her back paw to masterfully scratch behind her left ear. She closed her eyes in content at the satisfying feeling. The feather necklace that hung around her neck bounced against her chest as she did so. Once she stopped she let her tail come up beside her and hover just above the snow-dusted ground.

"I see," She commented, her eyes glittering in hidden amusement as the male began to get all huffy. Her smirk turned to a kindly smile. It wouldn't do to rile up the guy anymore then he already was. "An honest mistake, I assume." She said as if sympathizing with him. She pretended to examine her tail a moment before looking back at him. "You're certainly an interesting looking character." She noted with a bemused expression, scrutinizing his strange looks yet again. "Oh but where are my manners? I'm Atsuko," She blew her purple bangs out of her left eye where they'd fallen, her right ear twitching slightly.

The expression on the male's face shifted rather dramatically in the drawn out silence. Or rather, it seemed drawn out to him. He could feel the pressure rising with each slow swipe of the female's paw behind her ear. An eye twitched, ever so slightly, but certainly enough to be notable to a casual observer. Then brows furrowed, muzzle scrunching and eyes narrowing as she finished, raising her tail. He certainly couldn't raise his own tail that way. The fluffy bundle on his bum wiggled again. Still, despite the elegance of her feathered appendage, he was happy enough with the things that made him different (and all the more desirable, he was positive).

Eyes unlocked from her tail as she began to speak. Lips curled up in a proud sort of smile, though not an arrogant one. Nope. Not at all. "Interesting in a good way, I'm sure," he responded, feigning disinterest in the simple fact that he was, as always, very happy with looking different than everyone else. Paws pushed out before him as he slipped into a stretch, holding back a yawn as he then lowered his belly to the ground. "I'm Flareon. Good to meet you, Atsuko." It was a pleasure now that she was no longer pointing out his flawed landing, joke or not.
