The sands of the savannah were now warm with the heat from the afternoon sun, animals about the lands had begun their daily business, and the distant sounds of a stampede met the large black lioness' ears. She lifted her head swiftly, remaining visually blended with the grasses and sands about her. Rhin had been half asleep for some time, keeping an ear up for any who would approach, it seemed as if the morning had quite passed now though and she rose sleepily from the grasses. A wide toothy yawn and several fore and back leg stretches later the goddess padded purposefully toward the nearby den. She sniffed quietly and slowly poked her head inside, looking about for the young lion.

It was noon and he had not quite woken up just yet as teh afternoon feeding frenzy had not started, thus no roars of hooves and cries got to him. However, he did get to his morning run, catching a glimpse at Rhin close by on his way back. Too tired afterwards, he simply fell down and fell asleep. Definitely needed to bath again after.

The young male with an auburn mane, golden furled ball huddled against the back wall. Soft snoring echoed in the empty chamber. He was fast asleep.

Nervous about waking Zeki too abruptly by physically pushing or poking, she instead chose to whisper, "Pss, good afternoon young one," her voice was almost sing-song and had a maternal tone to it.

Giving a moment for any responce Rhin took a hesitant step inside the den, idly looking about the walls curiously.

The burrow was once a small chamber to a group of jackles. With the help of ratels, lions, jackals, and wild dogs, Zeki was able to create this new burrow. It was big enough to fit a few good families into and perhaps then some. With dreams of having a large family, he had built this den to such specifics.

A simple dream.

Zeki flicked his ear involuntarily and stirred a bit, groaning. Equivalent to an adolescent asking for another few moments of shut eye.

Rhin noted the size of the den, rather impressed that such a large space belonged to such a young lion. Stifling a soft chuckle at his protest, she took a few more timid steps within, coming up beside the spot where Zeki lay. She lowered her head near the ground, almost to his level, and nudged him softly with the back of her paw.

"I beleive I was owed the pleasure of beating you in a race today, m'dear, I wouldn't want you sleeping the afternoon away," she spoke in more of a stage whisper, as her voice remained loud enough to echo slightly. The goddess raised her brow as she spoke, waiting for the lion's firey eyes to open.

She slunk half a step behind him for a moment, before trotting just ahead, brushing his shoulder with her own as she passed.

"Well, I apologize, but I'd admittedly woken up, and short of hunting I could think of little to do," Rhin knew herself to get periods of boredom, where she became nearly childlike, simply looking for a game to play or something to chase. Now outside the goddess proceeded to stretch fully, digging her claws into the earth and pulling her backend backwards sharply. She flexed her wings and shook her legs much like a runner before a sprint, loosening the muscles. Somewhat reassured the goddess gave a quick glance toward the red pelted lion near her.

"So where might you suggest this race take place?"

Zeki continued his stretching, not in preparation but as a waking up method and kicking out kinks from sleep. He let out another yawn before sitting himself down, looking at the pitch black Goddess of the Hunt. With eyes raised and thoughts running themselves, he thought up places.

"Well, as I think of where we could race to, aside from Pride Rock, we could put up our wagers," he started. "As promised, if I won, I would get a feather of the beautiful goddess before me. But how about you spend the night in the den instead of outside tonight? Just tonight, no funny business, I assure you, just company. How does that sound?"

The cocked a brow and stared at the lion, attempting to analyze his request. She'd found no reason to distrust him, and the chances of him winning were essentially zero to start with, she could actually find no real reason to say no. Giving a hesitant grin she nodded slowly.

"I suppose that could not hurt, and besides that, I sincerely doubt you'll win to start with," with that she gave a more confident, cocky smile. "I simply wonder what I will get when I win?"

Zeki smiled honestly and looked up at her. The words that were gonna come out of his maw are ones that he would never speak to a Goddess in such a manner but it felt like it was needed to be said. Perhaps either out of a challenged and competitive spirit or foolishness to trifle with a Goddess.

"Don't be so cocky, Rhin, I can beat you to and from. How about we make it a two part deal. If I win the race to, I get the feather. If I win the race back, you sleep in the den tonight. As for what you get out of this, I have no idea. That is up to what you want from a mortal like me. But I am honor bound to whatever you ask for should I agree to it. Since a feather is on the line, I will."

Thinking harder, he remembered there used to be an old mandarin that used to serve the late king and queen who lived in a baobao tree in the far reaches of the eastern border of the Pride Lands. They could race there.

"Baobao tree, eastern border, large and hard to miss. No flying and there are rough terrains. Mostly rocks. Lets start once we agree to our terms, shall we?" he smirked, confident if he split his winnings in two, he was bound to win one.

The goddess raised her brow in meaning talked to in such away, not so much offended, more surprised than anything else. That was all and well then, originally she was going to be gentle, atleast make the race close, however if the young one wished to speak as an adult than she would happily beat him like one. At the mention of the baobao tree to the east she nodded, it would be a long race, but she's captured her prey over much farther stretches of land before, and felt quite confident that distance would make no difference.

"Should I win both ways, you shall never challenge my ability to beat you again," she smiled, feeling quite sure this was a must, as the young lions cockyness put a heavy damper on her own self-assuredness. "I also feel that should I win atleast one way that we shall go on a hunt together."

Hunting was how she judged all other lions, they may be clumsy, slow, and of poor physical means, if they could down something atleast their size though Rhin could respect them. She avoided family so much because she saw the attachment of cubs to a female as a hindrance to her abilities as a huntress, and no cub she'd ever met could provide for itself without some teaching anyhow. The chance to hunt with the male that was becoming her friend was a chance to assess him in her field.

Zeki smiled a big, happy grin. He cannot possibly lose, he would have gladly acompanied her if she lost any how, plus he would gain one more feather and have a warm body to sleep next to. However, not being able to the best hunter out there was sort of a blow to his own ego. However, he was still young, he could keep working at it, besides, who could beat a Goddess of the Hunt at hunting? . . . But it was how she phrased "my abilities to beat you again" that unnerved him. Was she saying that he had to admit that he was all around inferior to her? . . . Well, that certainly will not do. He just had to beat her once. Just once.

"Ready? The deal has been set...."

He smiled.

"GO!"

Instantly, the male became a golden blurr as he raced off.

The goddess raced off quickly after him, her black body moving deftly around the stones and occcassional grasses of the savannah. Once she had picked up the male's pace she attempted to keep just behind, conserving as much energy as she could and making small gains where possible. There was no need to attempt to overtake him, simply maintain his speed and improve on it; it was a long race and she was bigger, Rhin couldn't afford to expend too much energy too quickly.

At the occassional trees and rocks that they'd round she'd increase her speed, watching for any slip up in the young one's footing at every turn that would allow her to overtake him.

Zeki kept his medium pace, any faster and he would lose out quickly. He had no idea how much potential this Goddess held, but he was able to run full sprint to a border, to the next, and home by noon and slept into the night. However, not without a toll. He just went a day without eating and that made him miserable the day later. If he was gonna hunt with Rhin the day after, he will have to keep this pace and not over exhert.

The male bounded over rocks and bounders, hopping off ledges and rounding tall grass patches. He knew his way around his home land. He ran around it all his life. With a smirk, he pushed a little ahead and off to the flank. He had plans of his own.

Rhin kept a close eye, both on the terrain, and Zeki. Whenever he'd round a corner she'd push forward to gain a few more inches and would hug every turn tight threatening to almost collide with the male. When the male seperated she pushed herself to keep up, but allowed a little distance as she kept an eye on the terrain, she could inch back up to him once more, but she would not sprint just yet, she would guarantee herself atleast one victory by waiting on that 'till the last leg of the last run. She was confident she could beat the lion both ways, but she knew she would beat him one.

Still allowing a bit of distance she kept her eyes on the terrain, occassionally flicking them up to check the landscape to see if she could spot the tree in the distance yet.

Zeki bounded up the series of hills, boulders protruding and tall grass inhabited the tops of all of them. If he remembered correctly, there was a little schism before the hills where he has to get down and up, right after that is the baobao tree.

He had to make sure he won at least once.... just once.
