Fun to funky, we know Major Tom's a junkie...
Yes, DCI Hunt returns to our screens, set in the greatest year invented. Yes, I speak of 1981 biggrin
The music rocks. I was bopping to Roxy Music, The Cure, The Stranglers, Ultravox, Gary Numan and more. The star's no Sam Tyler, but maybe she'll grow on me. In the meantime, the 80s kids' show links should help. I await a reference to DangerMouse - after all, Rainbow was ITV...
It all seems to be more tongue in cheek than its predecessor, "Life on Mars". Or perhaps I mean larger-than-life, this being the 80s, after all.
So, anyone else watching this?

Is there any news on whether or not it was picked up for a second series? I and quite a lot of other LoM fans I know despised it, so I'm wondering if that was a general feeling.

Nuala Is there any news on whether or not it was picked up for a second series? I and quite a lot of other LoM fans I know despised it, so I'm wondering if that was a general feeling. Pretty sure they announced a second series, but no idea when it's due. The "heroine" did *not* grow on me. The Gene Genie was cool as ever though. Spookily, my MP3 player has just come up with Gary Numan on its random list as I type this. Altogether now: IN CARS! DW

You heard my opinion on the "heroine" being Sally Smedley without the laughs. I stick to it.
Gene was okay, but I could never be sure whether he was consciously being played over the top as a homage to the '80s or'd just been badly written as a self parody.
Did you get to see any of the American LoM at all? Whoever replaced Colm Meaney with Harvey Keitel needed dragging into a darkened room and intrroducing to Gene themselves, as far as I was concerned...

I've not seen it and I've been ignoring all discussions on the old Outpost Gallifrey on the subject. Who's Harvey Keitel? And why have I heard of Colm Meaney (too lazy to look it up on IMDB)?
I chose to believe Gene was deliberately 80s, rather than appallingly written smile
Music was great, but it still wasn't as good as LoM. Ms Know-it-all's comments on the subject of Sam Tyler and his delusions, along with the whole "I know this entire world is a delusion" got real boring, real quick.

Warnersister I've not seen it and I've been ignoring all discussions on the old Outpost Gallifrey on the subject. Who's Harvey Keitel? You shock me. You really do. Ten or fifteen years ago, he'd have been great. Maybe even five years ago if he pushed it. But he's now in no physical shape to play a character as animated as Gene, which leads to a lot of the tense confrontational scenes involving either blatant cutting work or else being played for laughs. It feels as though they dragged him in as a recognisable name to sell the series on past glories, rather than because he reflected the role. Hence I felt sorry for Colm Meaney, who was dropped after the pilot and who I think was more of a casualty of bad writing and bad direction, and could've made a meal of the reworked script. Every other change made between the pre-air pilot and episode one fixed a flaw as far as I was concerned. But Keitel was just pulling it down. Quote: And why have I heard of Colm Meaney (too lazy to look it up on IMDB)? Miles O'Brien, Star Trek: TNG. Amongst other things. There was a trailer for series two shown last night. gonk

Ah, we have to go as far back as "From Dusk Til Dawn" to find something he's been in that I've seen - and I don't remember what character he was...
I wondered whether we were talking about The Chief (and also that pilot in Die Hard 2).
Did they say when series 2 starts?

I was listening to an interview with Philip Glenister on Thursday afternoon - apparently, there's going to be a third series.
He's not sure after that.
He also said that he wasn't actually happy with some of the changes to his character for the last series, because he didn't want to be in a remake of Moonlighting.
Allegedly, the writers've taken the negative feedback they received for various things and tried not to repeat their mistakes this time 'round.
