User ImageDarkfire was not in a very happy mood.
Her latest meal, a nice plump bird with a magnificent array of feathers [all of which turned red in due time], had made her a little tired and sleepy, her deep emerald eyes slowly being covered by her heavy eyelids. Her usually violently-swinging tail was... well, violently swinging behind her as she trudged through the thick undergrowth of the forest, using her wings as balance as she navigated through frozen bushes and dry grasses.
A stick breaking in the distance caught her attention, her ears swiveling towards the sound before she could comprehend that she had heard something. She grinned, her pointed teeth and arched brows making her look anything but in a good mood.
Darkfire swung her tail back to her left side, scraping it against a tree with a sickening slicing sound. She folded her kalona wings back, against her body to help with her aerodynamics, and bent her head to show off her unicorn horn. Whatever had snapped the stick, it would pay for disturbing her peacefully angry stroll in the woods.
Peeking out from behind a tree, she saw what had made the noise; a little gray squirrel. Smirking, Darkfire pounced on the little mammal, catching it on her unicorn horn with a single swoop. It made the most horrible racket she'd ever heard, impaled on her black horn, so she finished it off with a quick shake of her head, sending the horn in deeper.
Within a few minutes, most of the squirrel had been consumed, its gray fur and red blood staining the snow.

What....was that sound?

Snapping his head in the direction of the blood curling racket in the near distance, Aiolos' ears perked up to intake as much as he could; and it wasn't far from where he stood. Far from home, there would be no one he could call if trouble arose....father, brother....all were back in the safety of home near the mountians. His blood had called for a journey, and thus he'd done a bit of training with his battle obsessed sibling and of course a crash lesson on the dangers of the outside world.

He was happy to have gotten all the help he could from his Mutant trained older brother and the wisdom of his nomadic father. Aiolos was pretty confident in his abilities to be out here on his own; yet if all else failed, he had his breakneck speed to fall back on. Hell, he'd been running since he came out of his basket and was probably in the best physical condition to sprint as fast as a wind Soquili could fly with the wind's help.

Thus....creeping forth on the small patches of soil left amongst the slowly melting snow, he came up upon the racket to hear the cries had subsided and gave way to odd crunching sounds. Peering from behind the tree his eyes widened substantially as he took in the ruby Kalona munching on what appeared to have been a squirrel. He wasn't as bad as his father for the opinion about shedding creature's blood; but hell, that was certianly a horrible way to go. Kalona's....he'd been breifed on those too, and most of his information was to get far, far away. Sadly, Zevach had told him Kalona's had deadly senses and by the time you decided to run, they would have known you're there. Yet he was also told that some, read - some....were at least half decent if not more.

So knowing that this mare had probably already heard him, he stepped out quietly from the tree with a respectful nod of his head. "I'm sorry to disturb your meal...Miss. Yet I heard the racket and just...came incase there was a possibility it was a Soquili needing help..." Standing tall, he kept his posture confident and proper. Now was definately not the time to be his usual hyper and happy self, no no...if anything he was hoping to gain even a sliver of respect - and that attitude wouldn't merrit it.

Darkfire turned her ruby head and swiveled her earto hear the stallion approach before he spoke, but she didn't give any other indication that he was there; she liked teasing her prey, fooling them into a false sense of security, before going in for the kill. This stallion smelled like he had run and sweated way too much for her taste, but the killer instinct within her was boiling up to the top.

You disgusting beast, she heard the voice in her head hiss into her ear, making her furrow her brow and shake her head. Now was the time for the mind to be clear, not to be clouded by the whispered threats and insults of her double-sided personality. The one that just spoke to her was the unicorn half of her, calling her a beast for wanting to kill and consume the flesh of living creatures. Her kalona side was dormant for the moment, until she showed the slightest hint of remorse or happiness. She didn't want to anger the kalona side of her.

"You'd better be sorry for disturbing my meal," said the Unikalona mare in her silky smooth, and utterly chilling, voice. She kept her gaze fixed away from the stallion, on her squirrel meal. She had learned that, as long as she kept her deep emerald eyes away from her target's, he or she wouldn't be as frightened of her until he or she felt her nasty little pointed teeth in his or her neck.

"Do you have a hero complex, or what?" she asked, her voice slicing through the air between them. She whirled her head around, merely shifting her body to be able to see the stallion better, her thick tail whipping the space behind her violently. "Feeling like you and only you can rescue another in need? What if I had killed it before you got here, and decided to turn on you when I was finished? Ever think about that, little boy?"

Yikes....not only was she Kalona...but that of Unicorn breeding as well. He'd only heard a tiny bit about these kinds of Soquili; and there wasn't a good thing to say other than they were nearly worse than their purebreed counterparts in that their mind was not all there. Slowly folding his ears down along his skull, he could feel his muscles begin to tense as his nerves readied him for any sudden attack like movements this mare had to offer.

One could never be too sure.

"I am quite sorry....but I suppose I cannot take back what's already done." He admitted gently, surveying the crimson stained snow all around the equally crimson mare; bits of grey tuff sticking amongst the hot pools of blood. It was a bit of a sickening sight, but luckily Aiolos wasn't a goody-goody. Sure, he opted to be happy and carefree...but he also held a sense that the world was a dark place and not everyone was rainbows and sunshine; things were killed everyday - it was merely the circle of life.

Shaking his head, the stallion almost chuckled at her sharp words. No, he had no Hero complex....his Brother and Father on the other hand....well; yes. "No....not at all. Things die all the time; its merely life. If not we'd have no predators and then the population of everything would become so great we'd all die of starvation." He offered a bit of a bitersweet smile, he wasn't as dumb as he usually let on...but knew this mare was as intelligent as she let on. "I wasn't aware it was you here, and so I guess its completely natural that you'd turn on me; since thats what all predators do. I'd hope you wouldn't....but I couldn't blame you if you did; but i'd most certianly try and get away in all honesty."

Oh yes...this meeting was surely going well, how did he get himself into these situations? Ahhh....he was simply too kind for his own personal good.

"I'm not sure what you have in mind....but, may I at least know your name? I've never met a Unikalona, and it would be even ruder than my disturbing you than to not know who to call you by?"

He was a talker, she knew. A kind of stallion that would keep talking even after she'd ripped out his throat. And it bugged the living crud right out of her. The squirrel's horrible screams still resonated in her head, making her feel all warm and fuzzy inside about making its last few moments agony. All she would remember about this stallion is that he would not shut up.

Darkfire narrowed her eyes. "Why would you come here if you had no such complex? From what I've studied, most just pick up the pace and move faster, afraid for their own tails and no one else's. Don't tell me you're unselfish; it's all a big lie." She stretched out her great kalona wings, her tail still thrashing wildy and betraying her inner feelings of hatred and anger from her cool exterior.

"I am at the top of the food chain; the circle would not exist without me," she continued, her harsh yet smooth voice raised in volume as she recited her own accomplishment. "And if I didn't eat these little varmints..." She motioned towards a pile of squirrel skin in the clearing, surrounded by a pool of its sticky red blood. "...just think of how miserable life would be, constantly bombarded by nasty little chitters."

Darkfire's voice lowered, her teeth bared. "You think you could actually escape if I came after you?" she asked. She laughed suddenly, a loud belly-laugh that made a few birds fly from the trees.

Disgrace, she heard in her ear, unable to discern which side of her personality it came from.

The Unikalona mare thought for a moment, making sure to angle her head so the little sunlight breaking through the trees would shine off of the squirrel blood on her horn.

Filthy half-breed! shouted her kalona side.

Psycho hose-beast, whispered the unicorn side. Darkfire wiped at her face with her kalona wings, growling deep down into her chest.

"If I tell you my name," she said after a moment. "I'd have to kill you. But that could be arranged..." She smirked, arching her eyebrow and hitting her kalona tail against herself to intimidate him and get herself ready for the imminent chase.

Well, she certianly had him there. Why was he here? It was certianly not to save the squirrel, even if he wanted to he was too late and who in their right mind would put their own large plumper body in the line between a squirrel and Unikalona? Certianly not he. He wasn't that caring. He supposed he came out his own curiosity, and perhaps in hope that he'd run into a friendly face that would fill the void that had began to open since being away from home and his loved ones. Perhaps if he was a smarter soquili, he should have forseen that a blood curing cry would be the last place; like she spoke...if there were any kind sane soquili would be.

"Well...it is. If it were between me or you, well; I'd chose me. I don't think i'd be able to explain it to you, its just how some Soquili are. Plain and simple."

Watching attentively as his own ruby orbs refused to move from the mare, he eyes shifted to what was left of the timbits of squirrel....true enough. He wasn't a fan of rodents, and definately wasn't going to even try to say otherwise.

Taking a tentative step back as her ivory canines came into view, his body tensed; on the edge of breaking into a full force run. He'd made a mental note of the area as his father told him to, he'd need to keep to the forests as he'd be easy prey if he ventured into a field and the wind was on her side. Luckily the forest got considerably thicker to the north of this small inner forest clearing, and he knew thats where he'd need to go if it came down to his life on the line.

"I'm not as slow as you might think I am. Yet in a clearing i'd be easy prey."

No need to hide what was common sense, she'd have to be pretty damn fast on her feet to catch him in the forests and with her wings causing even the slightest of wind resistance that was all he'd need to get out of here in one piece.

"Ah....well, I suppose I should just forget about it then."

A name wasn't worth his life. Not by a long shot.
