I'm planning a trip to Japan with a couple of my friends near the end of May, right after Golden Week. With the way the US economy has been, I'm worried that our trip is going to become a lot more expensive within the next few months. What do you think? Is it going to be more expensive by the time I head over there? Or will the change in exchange rate be too insignificant to make an impact?

last time I was there, the canadian dollar was a bit bigger than the normal 100 yen. and last time I was there, canadian dollar was smaller than US dollar. not too sure how it is right now, though. but I'm pretty sure that US is a bit bigger than yen.

Currently it's about this:

XE
1.00 USD = 106.776 JPY
United States Dollars Japan Yen
1 USD = 106.776 JPY 1 JPY = 0.00936540 USD

Definitely went down then.

I also read that by the summer, the yen might be stronger than the penny (can't really say the dollar, i guess, can you? That would be reeeally bad if one yen were bigger than a dollar biggrin )

But still, I highly doubt that would make things all that much more expensive. I was surprised by how cheap some of the food is myself. And other things were pretty similar in price. So while you may not be getting the same advantage that you could have gotten before, you aren't exactly getting ripped off either. At least we're not talking London prices coupled with the terrible exchange rate for Britain. biggrin

Have fun!

Wow. That's cheaper than when I went. It was about $1=116 yen when I came back, so I didn't get too much money back at teh end of my trip. sweatdrop
