My boyfriend told me that once, when he was about five or six, he was in his bedroom and he heard this singing that seemed to draw him to his living room. He said that he stopped before he actually stepped into the room but that he saw a really tall lady standing there. She was the one singing to him and he said she was glowing green. Then he ran into his parents' room and hasn't seen her since. At the time, there was a psychic woman who lived on his block and she said that it was a good thing that he hadn't actually entered the room because if he had, the green lady would have taken him or something like that. I wanted to know if anyone could tell me what that lady was.

Sounds like the normal ghostly Lady. We've got tons of them around the UK, Green Ladies are unusual most are normally grey or white but there are reports of them.

The normal stories is they lived in the house/area and died or were killed there and for some reason cannot or will not leave. A lot of them are very shy and normally disappear when someone walks up to them, but there are so that seem to like scaring people. On the whole thought they're pretty harmless.

Well, my first thought when I read that was "siren," a creature known for luring men to their deaths with a song. However, there are a number of other beings (ghosts included, Dazzler?) that have been known to lure people, then either kill them or drain them. I personally know that lilin (a group of demons that includes succubi) are not fond of children. This group may also include sirens, but don't quote me on it.

The way the psychic said "take" is the main thing that makes me think that she might be a malicious soul, as opposed to a simple ghost. Dazzler said the typical maiden is harmless...

Sirens are most commonly found by the sea, on cliff tops or fields near by, then again if he did live near the sea when it happened it is possible. But I believe cases of sirens in moden times are now very rare.

There are a couple of records of ghosts luring people to their deaths, normally by appearing to them and then having them follow them. Then again, I came across a record of a type of Fairy that lures child away from their village or small town (alway in the country) by sing. She then takes the children up to a cave or mine or some other sort of cover and sings for through out the night. The child then return home but with one alway missing. But I think that type of fairy lives in Southern Mexico (I may have to check that).

If the psychic said she'd take him, and she was singing to him in the first place, then I'd guess that she would either have been a woman who died in childbirth, or something similar. Either way, she might have lost her child, and be seeking him... In a case like that the spirit tends to stop differentiating between people and just go for the next best thing. In this case it would have been your friend. Honestly, if this were the case, I wouldn't call her malicious, but rather confused and hurting.

Also, if there were a lake or pond nearby, it's possible that maybe she drowned, maybe alongside her son... That might be why she's green.

The thing is that I heard of these...
Referred to as the Green Lady, the legend changes as the country differs.

The common haunt is Scotland, although the stories bear a resemblence to the Irish Banshee, it is described that she is a mortal under an enchantment since she is "neither human nor ghost", commonly associated with water, she is a 'good luck charm' to some.

The thing is that she is either beautiful and protective to those that are good to her, or she is a bloodsucking demon. Simple. If she is invited in, she will protect that house, even when the owner moves.

There are a wide range of beliefs on the Green Lady like that of some in Burlington, Eastern Connecticut. The common link between these many versions of the similar tale is that there is always an involvement in water- whether the lady drowned, or any links to her at all- house, portrait, grave, belongings.

There is another story that if you should happen to go into the cemetery, and bring a girl... The precaution you're supposed to take is to cut the girl's fingernails beforehand, 'cause the Green Lady may possess her body and turn on you'.
