Anbu happily wandered into the cafe part of the Gilded Lily, money from her first payday stashed in her black purse. To humor her mother, she'd worn a dark violet skirt and somewhat heavy white coat in addition to her usual attire. The day was crisp, but not too cold, and there wasn't snow or slush on the ground, which made Anbu very happy. And this place had been close to her work...so it just made sense to stop here for lunch before heading home. She refused to eat at her workplace off-shift.
And the lovely smells...In fact, Anbu swore she noticed some familiar flowers over in the flower shop portion that dominated most of the Gilded Lily...She shook her head. She'd talk to her mother later. She sat herself at one of the tables, looking innocent for all the world. How deceptive.

It was a normal day for the cafe, which was to say that it was moving but not terribly busy. Kaoru was trying to help out as usual, darting around the shop in a mad flurry of a white gown and wine colored half-jacket, bringing people their orders and otherwise greeting those that walked by. It was during one of these mad dashes that the Scent caught sight of a young woman who looked familiar; it was hard to determine if Kaoru had met them before, however, despite the lingering feeling of familiarity.
Only one way to find out for sure, no? The child bounced over towards Anbu, stopping near by with dainty hands folded behind the jacket. "Hi! Can I bring you anything?"

Anbu looked over, nodding. "Yes, I'd like an iced tea...Oh! Hello little Pomegranate." The dark Scent gave the younger the same secretive smile she had on her lips so much at the Christmas gathering. "I did not know you would be here. What a pleasant surprise." She reached over to pat Kaoru on the head. "I expected to have to go looking through the city for you, little one."

That voice! Again, the twinge of something familiar fought for recognition in those ruby eyes, watching the woman with curiosity. The mask...something about Christmas...
It was only when Anbu's hand lighted upon crimson stained chestnut curls, Kaoru's eyes lit immediately. That was not a Scent one soon forgot! "Anbu?!" the child crowed with delight, all grins and excitement. "I didn't recognize you and WOW you looks so pretty what brings you here--oh, ice tea?" The Scent hiccuped as the torrent of words slowed into something more understandable, giggling a bit. It'd been a while since Kaoru had seen anyone at all from the party...while the child didn't quite realize it at the time, it was getting a bit lonely without the company of others like the Scent.

Anbu chuckled. "Slow down, Kaoru." She removed her hand from hir head and folded her arms on the table before her. "Yes, I would love an iced tea...and then we might talk a little? It's been awhile since I've seen you!" She remembered when she was that...short. And much more chaotic. Anbu was far from chaotic now...most of the time.
Anbu knew how to plot and plan now. But this child had once again struck a chaotic chord in the dark Scent. Kaoru was so sweet and innocent...like her baby brother! Except capable of words and moving around on hir own. Anbu was determined to take hir under her wing before one of the other, more...idiotic Scents did so.

Kaoru gave a curt nod. "Yes ma'am!" the child quipped, darting off towards the counter and disappearing for a handful of heartbeats. Then, much slower, the Scent reappeared with a good sized glass filled with tea in one hand, fingers hooked through a smaller cup of lemons with a bowl of sugar balanced on a dainty palm.
Unloading the goods with the upmost care and managing not to spill so much as a drop, Kaoru clamored onto a chair near Anbu and looked up at her with large red eyes. Of course, the Dark Carnival would likely not be fooled by that innocent gaze, for there was a bright potential for mischief that sparkled within those ruby depths. It was simply in the nature of the pomegranate child.
"Can I get you anything else?" the Scent asked politely, despite the obvious intruige in getting to sit and chat with the delightful Anbu. Truly, she was quite beautiful to the young child's eyes, and like any good being, Kaoru wanted to spend more time in the presence of such a sight.

Anbu certainly admired the younger Scent's ability to keep everything shi was holding balanced. Certainly a feat in and of itself, considering the ornery, splash-y nature of iced tea. And when the Pomegranate looked to her with a seemingly innocent expression...
Oh, the gears in Anbu's head began to turn. The Scent had even more potentional than she'd originally thought! It was perfect! Anbu shook her head lightly at hir question. "No, the tea is fine for now." She proceeded to add some sugar to the tea, and squeeze juice into it from one of the lemon wedges. "So how have you been? It has been quite a while since the party, and you've certainly got a very interesting guardian, surrounded by interesting people." Anbu had remembered many of the faces she'd seen around her mother, and she'd remembered her first thoughts on some of them. She hadn't seen one yet that seemed a bad person to have around her mother.
Well...Rhiloss not-withstanding. She still thought the boy was a very frustrating puzzle, and she didn't want him around her mother or brother until she'd figured him out.

The child nodded, staying near to Anbu without sitting. Waiting on her hand and foot, one could almost say; no doubt a certain male Scent would have approved. "Ah. Mom attracts 'interesting' people, that's for sure," came the dry reply, a faint smile on those cupid bow lips. "She's just that type of person. But she needs another person like that for herself." Kaoru shook chestnut curls, rubbing dainty chin in thought. Indeed, Crystal was a source of worry for the Scent, but a welcome one, unlike Qadir and his charge.
Ruby eyes turned back to Anbu, smile warming into something more suitable for the Scent's age. "How've you been? You still look lovely." Kaoru had already commented on the woman's appearance, but it stood to reason to do so again. "Oh! And how's your mom? My mother told me about her, I'd sure like to meet her someday."
Either Kaoru had no idea of what Anbu was thinking, or the child simply was going to let it come to pass. For now, the Scent gave a most dazzling smile and awaited the teenager's next words. The two together were very likely able to cause trouble just by looking at one another.

Anbu nodded in agreement. "Yes...Though I personally dislike him, I'm glad my mother found Kyuubi. He...keeps her sane, I suppose." She smiled softly. "And I'm certain your mother will find someone perfect for her." The Scent winked. "Doesn't mean you have to like him though." She chuckled, taking another drink of iced tea.
"I've been well. My little brother was born, so I got a job." She looked about quickly, then leaned in close enough to whisper to the other Scent. "I'm determined to make sure he has the best. Mom and Kyuubi and Gramps will be FAR too busy just raising him." She chuckled again as she sat back up. "Knowing my mother, she'll pop in here soon enough to show Naruto to Crystal. My mother adores yours."
Ah trouble...The two would certainly end up causing trouble together. Be it intentional, or just by making people wonder what they were plotting. Of course, in Anbu's opinion, sometimes making them wonder when there was truly nothing to wonder about was best.

"Nahr-oo-toe?" Kaoru sounded out the name, not used to the different language (despite the Scent's own name being fashioned after the same one). Large ruby eyes glimmered at the prospect of meeting Kyoko, who Crystal had often spoken of in fondness. "I'd like to meet him. I bet he's cute and full of mischief like his sister." The words were innocent, but the child was laughing, a gleeful type of expression that wasn't as innocent as it should have been.
Rubbing dainty chin thoughtfully, the Scent looked at Anbu's garb, pursing those cupid bow lips. "So where do you work now, Anbu? Can't be too bad if you get to dress so pretty. That's why I like helping my mom. At least I get to wear what I'm comfortable with." Kaoru's words were earnest and just as innocent as before, but there was an underlying discomfort at the idea of having to wear something else.

Anbu nodded, commending Kaoru's correct, if slow, pronunciation of the baby's name. "He is. Even little, he's bright and alert...And sometimes I swear he does things just to watch Mom jump up and worry about him." Sweet her little brother was...Concerned about what he did? Nope. Anbu took another drink, happy she'd found a Scent she got along with so well other than Vanyel and Arius.
"Sadly...I'm only allowed to wear a simple mask and nothing fancy in my hair." She chuckled. "Though the dress slacks and white shirt aren't too bad. But I always change before leaving work." She posed a bit. "But I do look good in a uniform." Anbu knew she did...she just didn't like being as flexible.

The Scent giggled. "Mom says that about me sometimes," Kaoru remarked with contentment. "She says something about getting grey hair too, but I don't get that part." Slender shoulders lifted and dropped with an amused smile. Most kids shared the same antics, or so the child supposed. "I look forward to meeting him."
Kaoru couldn't help but making a soft 'tsk'ing noise. "Well that's silly of them! But you're right. You look very good, probably better in what you'd prefer but you still wear it well." The Scent switched between childish behavior and more mature ways of speaking, depending on the situation and what the proper response would be. Despite how the child may actually be, Kaoru did try to please, or at least be what was expected. Clapping at the pose, the Scent giggled again, "I haven't met anyone as pretty as you though, Anbu. I might be a little biased!"
