Drip. Drip. Drip. The sound of the rain lightly hitting the dry earth was magical. The red dirt shifting and turning into dark mud. It wasn't the sort of mud that would make you slip or sink. It was just wet enough to turn Matawi's paws a red color. In Deep contrast to her dark coat. Rain was falling on her head. Slow drops. Not fast enough to soak her. Not yet, at least. The Grey clouds above her head were relaxing. A nice shield from the brutal sun that normally bared down on her.
A quick glance behind her assured that her daughter was following. It was time for some real conversation. Tawi could feel it. She hadn't been the best mother. She didn't know how. She left most of the child work to her brother and Kiji. They at least knew how to be social able.
"My little baby..." Matawi's red eyes caught the rainbow on her daughters back and she quickly averted her gaze, "Is there anything you need to know?" It was an awkward sentence. Had she really lost so much touch with her own daughter that there was nothing she knew to talk about?

Giggles accompanied the soft patter of rain upon the earth, filling the cloudy day with an innocent joy reminiscent only of cubs. Pale eyes flashed in the low light, as sultry and pale as the clouds that hung thickly overhead. Though, soon giggles faded to whispers, and whispers to silent smiles, as if the deep black cub knew secrets the world could only begin to imagine. Those pale eyes cut to her side, a knowing glance for the ever-present being that the world couldn't possibly dream to know. Oh, it was but a figment of her imagination, but to her it was her only true friend.
"What?" she asked suddenly as she recalled her mother speaking, eyes blinking as if she'd been woken from some deep moment of thought. Of course she hadn't been paying attention - why pay attention to the silent mother when Lisani was so much more interesting? She took a few quicker steps, catching up to her mother's side, and keeping pace as best she could with her shorter legs. She delved her thoughts for the words her mother had passed her way, finally remembering what had been said to her when she had been listening to Lisani.
"Oh.. not really," she said with a small grin plastered on her innocent little face. She turned said face up to the clouds, letting the cool droplets of water wash her fur, though it was not quite enough to wet it thoroughly. Then, almost as an after thought, as she recalled the talk with her 'father', she turned her eyes back towards her mother. "Do you think there will be a rainbow once the storm passes?" She rather liked rainbows, to be honest.

Odd. Her Daughter must have inherited the art of being truly disconnected from the world and how it worked. Such Distractions. Something from the old days when Matawi, herself, had been young. Carefree. Not bothers no worries. The Good days.
Her dark eyes raised to the sky. There seem to be thick clouds. Clouds that threatened to remain there for quite some time. "There will be no rainbow today." She sounded sure. "But you may always look at your back if you miss them." Rainbows. She had never much liked them, yet she kept the baby with one. How strange. Very, very strange.
"My sweet little Baby..." She trailed off. Thinking about how to word what was forming in her mind. Kucha. A new face. Disconnected from her daughter, matawi didn't know how Ayane would react to her Mother's new 'Friend' A best friend. One she needed while away. Or while Kija and Shaha were off having their own discussion.
"What is your opinion of having a new 'friend'? Someone to help your... Er... Your 'father' out from time to time?"

As things often go with cubs, Ayane wasn't entirely aware of her unnatural disconnection from the world around her. As far as she had ever been concerned, she was perfectly normal. Time, of cours,e would show her just how wrong her assumption was. Being that she never really had many cubs her age to play with, it was hard for her to judge for herself just what was normal, or abnormal for that matter. She had only ever met one cub, by the name of Loki, and he had seemed to think she was alright.
"Do you know how silly I would look if I stared at my back all the time, mama?" her words came, brows slightly furrowed and her face a little scrunched up. She thought the notion was silly. If she kept staring at her back, how would she ever walk forward? Besides that, Ayane wanted to see a real rainbow. They were so rare, but so pretty! Though she probably would admit that half her fascination came from her own markings - and perhaps the story her 'Papa' had told her.
"A friend?" she asked with a slight touch of confusion lighting her little eyes. She faltered in her steps, pausing somewhat, before she hurried to catch up to her mom's side once more. "I like friends, but I don't have very many. A new one would be good!" She let a grin split her maw, though it was obvious she didn't quite understand what it was that her mother was trying to get across to her.

"Why, My dear!" She cried out laughing. "Why Walk forward, when backwards is so much better!" This thing. This baby of hers. Maybe there was more to her 'empty headedness' than Tawi thought. Her eyes were opening to the world around her. Had there really been so much stress behind her tired eyes that she had failed to notice anything? Yes, there must have been.
"I would stare at my back if there was anything to spy on! To be very honest, I'd walk backwards to see the world in reverse if I was not afraid my bottom might run straight into a tree!" He face brightened on this dreary day, "Why, I might do everything backwards for a day or two once it's brighter!" A smile smile stayed on her lips. "You, my child, will be wise beyond your years if you think outside of the 'average' that most people see."
Words changed to the subject of the new 'friend'. "Yes, my darling. He's very special. More Special than your marks. You see, he cannot see the rainbow. Nor the sky, nor land, nor Sea. He cannot see you or me, for that matter. My friend", she paused and craned her neck to stare into her daughters eyes, "He is blind. No colors pass his eyes." It was a simple truth. A dagger to the heart at that. Such a sweet creature could not see any of the sweet things of this earth, and possibly the next. There was nothing.
