So
I work at a Wal-mart Supercenter in the Pets Department
Last Tuesday,
With our weekly fish shipment
A small water-dwelling beetle came in by accident with the ghost shrimp and male fancy guppies
I watched it with fascination during lulls in customer activity and really gave it no thought
And
As yesterday was my 22nd birthday and I didn't work,
I bought myself a gift:
1 Fishbowl
1 1-inch fish net
1 .42-ounce can of goldfish flakes
1 5-pound bag of gravel
1 small plastic aquarium plant
1 small common goldfish
2 ghost shrimp
(and "rescued" the beetle)

Well,
After I got home that night and set up the bowl,
I looked up water-dwelling beetles on the net
And it turns out that the beetle I "rescued" was in fact a backswimmer nymph
So
In essence
I rescued the guppies in the fish tanks at work from a predatory bug
lol

D: Walmart. Things for a cheap price. I thought Walmart wasn't allowed to sell fish anymore.

Hehe, I'm sorry, but that is kinda funny.
I think you should keep an eye out for those shrimp though.
They are very fragile in my experience, and it wouldn't surprise me if that bug out grew them and made a meal out of them.
I'd keep them separate, just in case.
And why not get them a real plant?
Elodea's the easiest to grow, and I'm pretty sure it'll grow faster then the shrimps can eat if you give the shrimps food.
Though I could be wrong...

Wal-mart Supercenters are definitely still allowed to sell fish. They're just not allowed to sell any other live animals due to the presence of human consumables (Grocery Department) in the store.
However,
Many Wal-marts stopped selling fish due to an inventory loss problem [lyke zomg hoog].
The Wal-mart where I work as well as one other in our district still sell fish.

At this moment, the shrimp are near to their adult size of 1-1.5 inches, whereas the backswimmer nymph is still less than a centimeter long, and its adult size shouldn't be much longer than 13 millimeters anyway...
