It's widely rumoured that the storyline for the book Life, The Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams was originally intended to be a Dr. Who storyline.
Douglas Adams was a story editor for Dr. Who at the same time as he made The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy radio series.
Although it was originally a Metropolitan Police design, the BBC now owns the rights to blue police boxes.
If the BBC had got their way, we would never have heard of the Daleks. They didn't like them. However, when the BBC asked the production company for some episodes to fill some airtime, the only ones in the can was the original Dalek story.
Colin Baker thought he had been ruled out of playing the Doctor as he had previously appeared in another episode.

Jackie Lane, who played Dodo Chaplet was offered the role of Susan, the doctor's grand daughter. However she turned it down instead taking up a four month contract that was never renewed (explains why her character was cut mid-story...). Years later she worked as a agent for both Tom Baker and Janet Fielding.
Nicholas Courtney, who played Lethbridge-Stewart has the record for the companion to act alongside the most doctors (1-5,7)
Roger Delgado (the first actor who played the Master), died in a road acident in Turkey. His death and the departure of Jo Grant shifted the series back into Outer Space and away from UNIT.
Sarah-Jane Smith originally was intended to return after Leela, though she never took up the offer.
Lalla Ward (Romana II) is daughter of Lord Bangor, however she won't enherit the title of 'Lady' but the title 'Honorable'
Sylvester McCoy (the 7th doctor) is adept at playing both the xylophone and the spoons. He can also juggle and once gained a reputation for stuffing live ferrets down his trousers.
Jon Pertwee was encouraged by the success of the show to ask for a pay rise... the BBC however saw it was time for him to move on.

In the 'Two Doctors' Patrick Troughhton spent some of the story confined to a wheel chair. Frazer Hines and Colin Baker continually crept up behind Patrick's chair and shoved it as hard as they could whenever he was taking a nap. Kamelion was an actual robot, but they had so much trouble with him, they didn't keep him for long. One of the problems was to achieve synchronous movement with the recored speech which usually took eight to nine day to program. Tremas who the master took over was an anagram TREMAS=MASTER Adric was an anagram of scientist Dirac Nyssa was Peter Davison's fav companion Lis Sladen married an actor who appeared in 'Snakedance' named Brian Miller
