Alright I had this conversation with my Muslim friend on Gaia about Gaia Slots/Cards in that Casino thing.
He agrees that gambling real money IRL or online is haram-- but since Gaia Slots is fake and it isn't real money then its not haram (he says). He added that he isn't addicted or will ever be addicted to it. He says that he knows in his heart that hes not falling subject to its temptations and he's not doing it for the sake of gambling or entertainment.

I disagree and I think since the Quran states that gambling in any way is haram, then that means it should be haram for fake gambling as well.

Now my question is this.
Would playing Gaia Slots/Cards be considered haram? Even if it was a game?

I don't think it's haram. But the game is boring.

But isen't it only a game???????????????????? I mean to kill someon in a game, is not the same to kill someone in real life.

I mean yea, its a game.
But gambling in a casino is considered a game.

And for the killing thing.. I'm not sure lol. Technically you shouldn't play it but you know, its not like we will.

Gambling in a real casino is very different than gambling on Gaia slots.

In the real casino, you're doing it with real money in hopes of winning a real fortune. You're depending on luck and chance and ignoring the fact that you're most likely going to lose a bunch of your money in the end. It's addicting because you think, "The next turn will give me money!" and then in the end it doesn't and you're probably trying again. This results in you losing the majority of your money and probably gaining little to nothing.

I like what this site had to say:

Quote:
That gambling, among many other things, causes families to break, societies to suffer, and the economy to deteriorate, damaging and ruining the ethical foundation of any decent society.

Gaia slots uses fake money and I highly doubt people become addicted to this game anyway. Especially to the point where Person A is stealing B's money for gambling and messing up relationships... you aren't losing anything either and it's easier to gain a profit on Gaia than it is in real life. Losing your real money is critical but losing fake money? That is nothing compared to being financially in debt.

As for violent video games, why shouldn't we play them?

Well that whole violent video games thing is another subject all together.

As for this thread.. gambling, I still see it as the same thing as if it were IRL. In the psychological sense that it can possible be addicting to someone who tries it. It can be addicting for some people even if it isn't real, fake or not. Its doing the same thing real gambling would do to you-- the only difference is that its replacing real money and its online.
Wouldn't that lead to other problems later? To the extreme sense if it were to happen to someone.

I like Zaaki's analogy about killing in video games. If we can't play Gaia slots then we shouldn't play violent video games because it just might make someone go on a killing spree.

Addiction to anything leads to problems later on but the idea of someone becoming obsessed with Gaia slots sounds ridiculous to me especially since the game sucks and you're not gaining anything.

If someone is obsessed with Gaia slots, I don't think they're obsessed with the gambling part since they can just get tokens from the daily chance. I think they're obsessed with getting tickets for the items.

I'm an avid gamer as well a muslim and i've played almost every violent video game on the shelf but i don't go out killing people because it's stupid. I also believe people that are doing so are stupid.

In the end do everything in moderation even moderation
