Chapter 1

Terra walked down a ramp of a shuttle onto a platform, into an elevator, and appeared on a ramp of a lower level. She walked toward another ramp exit and was met by two soldiers and a Commander with Beast Boy, in cuffs, at their center. The young changeling gazed at Terra with complete calmness.

"This is the Titan that surrendered to us. Although he denies it, I believe he may know where more of them are, and I request permission to conduct a further search of the area," said the Commander.

Terra looked at Beast Boy, then turned to face the commander.

"Good work, Commander. Leave us. Conduct your search and bring news of them to me," Terra replied.

"Yes ma'am."

The officer and the soldiers withdrew, they left Terra and Beast Boy alone. The sounds of gooey magma filtered in upon them.

"My master has been expecting you," Terra said after a brief moment of silence.

"I know, Terra," Beast Boy mumbled.

"Have you accepted the truth?"

"Only that you were a Titan, and my friend."

Terra turned to face him.

"The term "friend" no longer means anything to me."

"It's what you were. You've only forgotten. I know theres good in you. Slade hasn't taken it all away. That's why you couldn't destroy me. That's why you won't bring me to him ," he explained.

They both stood there for a moment, Terra turned back around with a bowed head.

"Come with me, " he begged.

"Robin once thought as you, " she replied.

Beast Boy stepped close to Terra, then stopped. Terra was still.

"You don't know how powerful I've become. I must obey my master."

"I won't talk....and you'll have to destroy me," said Beast Boy.

"If that is your wish," Terra replied.

"Just think about it Terra. You can't do this. I feel your good. Let go of your hate."

"It's too late for me, Beast Boy. Slade will show you the true nature of ultimate power. He will always be my master."

Terra signalled to some distant soldiers. She and Beast Boy stood staring at one another for a long moment.

"Then the Terra I once knew is really dead," sadly said the green changeling.

The elevator opened. Terra and Beast Boy entered a giant room surrounded by rocks, smoke, and liquid hot magma. Slade was perched in his throne as the two teenagers gazed at him. Terra bowed to her master.

"Welcome. We've been expecting you," calmy said Slade.

Beast Boy peered at the masked figure defiantly. Slade then looked down at Beast Boy's cuffs.

"You no longer need those."

Slade motioned one of the guards to remove the cuffs. Beast Boy looked down at his own hands, he was free now to strangle Slade. He did nothing.

"Guards, leave us," said Slade.

The armored guards disappeared behind the elevator. Slade turned his head toward Beast Boy.

"I'm looking forward to getting some answers. In time you will tell me where the others are."

"You're wrong, Slade. You won't use me like Terra."

"Oh, no, you will find that it is you who are mistaken....about a great many things," Slade snickered.

"You're wrong. Soon I'll be dead....and you too."

Slade laughed.

"Perhaps you refer to the imment attack once we find your team fleet."

Beast Boy looked up sharply.

"Yes....I assure you we are quite safe from your friends here," Slade replied.

Terra looked at Beast Boy.

"Your overconfidence is your weakness," said Beast Boy.

"Your faith in your friends is yours," sneered Slade.

"It is pointless to resist," said Terra.

Slade turned to face Beast Boy.

"Everything that has transpired has done so, according to plans. You're friends....

Beast Boy reacted. Slade noted it.

....are walking into a trap. As you can see, it was I who allowed them to know the location of the bombs I set up. Also, my entire legion of best soldiers are looking for them."

Beast Boy's look darted from Slade to Terra and finally outside a small window.

"Oh....I'm afraid the four bombs will be quite operational when your friends discover them," Slade said.

Beast Boy was in torment. Slade watched him and smiled.

"The pain is swelling in you now. Give yourself up. With each passing moment, you make yourself more at my mercy."

Terra watched Beast Boy in his agony.

"No!" Beast Boy shouted.

"It is unavoidable. It is your fate. My victory, like Terra, are mine."

A horrified Beast Boy panicked.

"As you can see, your friends will fail. You will now witness the ultimate power of my armed forces." Slade spoke into the comlink. "Send them out, Commander."

Beast Boy, was in shock, he looked out across the surface as an army of state-of-the-art soldiers poured out from a nearby bunker fleet. Out of the window and viewscreens, the armed fleet marched. Slade turned to Beast Boy.

"The new fleet has arrived. And your friends will not survive. There is no ecape. Your chances of victory will die....as well your friends."

Beast Boy's eyes filled with rage. Terra watched him.

"Good. I can feel your anger grow . Attack me with all your hatred. Do your worst!" Slade provoked.

Beast Boy could resist no longer. He transformed into a green gorilla and swung a fist at Slade, Terra blocked the blow before it could reach Slade. Beast Boy turned to once again fight his friend.

Chapter 2

Beast Boy and Terra were engaged in a one-on-one duel of their own powers which was even more vicious then their previous battle. But the young changeling had grown stronger in the interim, and now the advantage had shifted to him. Terra was forced back, lost her balance and was knocked to the ground. Beast Boy stood there ready to attack.

"Good. Use your aggressive feelings, boy! Show no mercy," laughed Slade.

Beast Boy looked momentarily toward Slade, then back to Terra. He stepped away, transformed back to normal, and relaxed, he drove anger away from his being.

"You've become stronger," Terra said, she got up.

"I won't fight you, Terra," he proclaimed.

Terra walked over and stared into Beast Boy's eyes.

"You are stupid to lower your defenses."

Terra attacked, forcing Beast Boy on the defensive. The young changeling leaped in a amazing reverse flip on a nearby catwalk, Terra was below him now.

"I was right Terra. I feel your good return....the conflict."

"There is no conflict."

"You couldn't destroy me before and you won't destroy me now."

"You poorly underestimate me, Beast Boy. If you won't fight, you will meet your destruction."

Terra flung a boulder at Beast Boy. He tumbled to the ground and rolled out of sight under Slade's platform. Terra moved in to find him.

"Good. Good," Slade cackled.

Terra stalked the low-cei linged on the level below the throne, searching for Beast Boy in the semi-darkness.

"You can't hide forever, Beast Boy."

"I won't fight you."

"Give yourself up to Slade. It's the only way you can save your friends. Yes, I know what you're thinking. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for...."

Terra stopped and remembered something. Beast Boy shut his eyes and tightened in anguish.

"Raven! So....you're in love with Raven. Your feelings have now betrayed her, too. You were wise not to mention her earlier. Now your failure is complete. If you won't give us what we want, then perhaps she will."

"Never-r-r!" Beast Boy cried.

Beast Boy transformed back into a green gorilla again, rushing at Terra with a frenzy we have not yet seen before. Beast Boy and Terra fought in the cramped area. Beast Boy's hatred forced Terra to retreat out of the low area near the lava shaft. Each strike out of his fists drove Terra further toward defeat.

The evil apprentice was knocked to her knees, as she desperately tried to block another onslaught. Terra's armor was smashed badly, causing metal and electronic parts to fly away. Terra was knocked down injured and was at mercy as Beast Boy moved over her and wrapped a fist around her throat. Slade watched with uncontrollable, pleased agitatition.

"Good! You've become even more powerful then I expected. Now, do what must be done and become my new apprentice!"

Beast Boy looked at Terra and realized how much he was becoming just like her. He dropped her and allowed her to catch her breath. Beast Boy stepped back and transformed back to normal again.

"Never! I'll never be your apprentice. You've failed Slade. I'm a Teen Titan, just like Terra."

Slade's glee turned to rage.

"So be it....Titan."

Beast Boy stood still, as Slade reached the Titan. Slade's laughter had turned to anger. He raised his wrist shockers toward Beast Boy.

"If that is your decision, you will be destroyed."

Jagged bolts of energy flow through the wrist shocker bands. Even in his surprise, the young changeling tried to deflect the bolts but was powerless before this supreme technology. Beast Boy shrunk before them, his knees buckled. The wounded Terra struggled to her feet, and moved to stand at her master's side.

"Young fool....only now, at the end you understand," said Slade.

Beast Boy was almost unconscious beneath the continuing assault of the lightning. He clutched a canister to keep from falling into the lava shaft as the bolts tore through him.

"Your feeble skills are no match for me. You have payed the price for your lack of vision."

Beast Boy writhed on the floor in unbearable pain, reaching weakly up toward where Terra stood watching.

"Terra, please. Help me," groaned Beast Boy.

Again Terra stood, watching Beast Boy. She looked at her master, Slade, then back to Beast Boy on the floor. Terra's once strong and fearless eyes had gotten bigger and sadder within each passing moment.

"Now young changeling....you will die," gleamed Slade.

Although it didn't seem possible, Slade increased the bolt intensity by turning up a small dial on the gadget, the sound of screaming was heard through the room. Beast Boy's body writhed in pain.

Terra could no longer bare to watch her one true friend suffer any longer, quickly she grabbed Slade and knocked him down, fighting for control of the masked figure despite her weakened body. Slade struggled in this embrace, his bolt-shooting gadget lifted away from Beast Boy. Terra now began to toss rock and debris at Slade as he started to slip over the edge of the lava shaft at the central core of the throne room. With one final burst of her once awesome strength, Terra knocked Slade's body in the lava shaft.

Slade's body spun helplessly into the shaft, arcing as it fell into the lava. Finally, when the body was far down the shaft, it melted, creating a rush of steam through the room. Terra was whipped by the steam as she staggered, and collapsed toward the magma hole. Beast Boy crawled to Terra's side and pulled her away from the edge of the shaft to safety. Both the young changeling and the once evil apprentice were too weak to move.

Chapter 3

Chaos. For the first time, the base was collapsing due to the battle between master and apprentice. Slade's troops ran in all directions, confused and desperate to escape.

Meanwhile in the throne room, Beast Boy was trying to carry the enormous deadweight of his friend's weakened body. He tried but only managed to help her stand.

"Beast Boy, get out of here now," she said.

"But you'll die," he said.

"Nothing can stop that now. Just for once....let me do something right."

"No. You're coming with me. I can't leave you. I've got to save you."

"You already have, Beast Boy. You were right about me. Tell the others....you were right."

Beast Boy and Terra embraced each other with one last hug, a long but short hug. Finally, Beast Boy backed away slowly and then ran out of the throne room, he left Terra alone. Now, with Beast Boy out of the way, Terra used up every bit of her remaining power to perform the ultimate sacrifice to not only save her friend, but her spirit from the clutches of evil.

The next day, the entire base was abandoned. The Titans entered the throne room, now a dark and cold cave with flowers to see a solid stone body of Terra. They stood watching sadly as it stood there in the same Slade armor that she wore. To complete their visit they placed the bouqet of flowers next to a stone plaque. In carved bold words it read, "TERRA, A TEEN TITAN, A TRUE FRIEND."
