I had a really strange dream today, and I think it’s something that I should write down, because I found it very interesting
In the dream, I was at somebody’s birthday party, but while I was there, I was thinking up a story and a song in my head. (What sucks is that I really had lyrics to the song too, but I forgot them when I woke up. Maybe I can redo the song eventually.) Anyway, I was thinking up a story about two characters and a large, lonely tree.
These people were a guy and a girl, and I don’t think they were related to each other in any way. They were overwhelmed by their busy lives, so they stopped by the countryside to think. In the middle of this little field, where there were only a couple of old fashioned houses, there’s this big tree. (I know that it had golden leaves around it on the ground, and I think that they’re supposed to make you stronger or something if you ate them, but I can’t remember, so we’ll move on.)
Anyway, the people walk over to the tree, and sit down under it. They feel relaxed soon, and sort of full of wonder at the world. They just sit, content, and watch the late night stars. They feel like the tree is a person too, so they name it. I think they named it Rimmer, but I dunno why they would, that’s just what they called it.
The people find out that the tree is going to be chopped down soon, so they tell it that they will stay with it, and keep it safe, because they have this growing bond with it, and don’t want to leave it and go back to their busy lives anyway.
After a while, everything was ok. But then, I think the tree was telling the people, “Don’t lean on me.” It just kept saying it over and over. The people didn’t understand what it meant, and they still wanted to help it, so they were going to stay. For some reason though, they decided to go back to the city for the night. They said that they’d be back in the morning though, and said their goodbyes to the tree.
The next day, when the strangers came back to countryside to go to the tree, they found that the entire little field was flooded with water, from some unknown cause. (The field was kind of in a bowl that had mountains around it, which is why the water was contained.) The people searched, but the water was too high. They couldn’t see the tree anymore. They realized that it told them to stop leaning on it because it knew a flood was coming, and wanted to protect them too.
I don’t know if this dream means anything at all, but it makes me wonder, which is why I wrote it down. Like I said before, it’s supposed to be a song, but the song kinda slipped out of my head. Maybe I’ll remember it sometime, and write it down. I kind of hope that I do, because I think the message of the song was important.

Actually, writing your dream down is a great idea. I told my sister to keep a dream journal (since she has a problem with the word DIARY) to record dreams since we tend to forget them. As for the meaning, I'm not really sure about this one, but it seems like maybe the tree knew that the flood would come, but it seems to send a message about understanding futility and endurance. The tree had the courage to endure the future, regardless of the terrors it held. It was not worth the people to sacrifice themselves for something futiile, unpreventable, destined to happen... okies, I'm gonna go for a lay-down now so the odd motivation can wear off sweatdrop

I don't often recall my dreams when I wake up. So if by chance I do remember them I feel they are important and I need to look closely at what they could represent. I tend to use the guild as my dream journal xd
Anyway, sorry I took so long to respond to this. I've seen it, but have not yet been able to work out the different peices and how they might fit together.
Birthdays represent celebrations of life and accomplishments, as well as new levels of being and development. The song, I'm still working on the signifigance of it. It could have come from a different vibration (spirit level) than you are use to, or it may have been more important for you just to remember the story. But either way, it is one of those things that if it is meant for you to know it will return when the time is right.
The guy, girl & tree are about the balance between opposits (masculin/feminin, physical/spiritual). Challenges occure in attempts to maintain that balance, but it is possible.
Floods usually mean there is an overflow of emotions or a lack of emotional control.
The Tree has been the most difficult part, especially the "don't lean on me" thing. I'm not sure if it is about limits with resources and strength when it comes to facing challenges, finding alternative methods when dealing with various struggles, learning to look at your own personal strengths to find solutions, or if I'm totally way off base and it means something else, guess you will have to look at what is happening around you and figure out which fits best in your situation.

Thanks for the help. I know that I've been having issues that deal with life direction, so that has been stressful for me. I've had several dreams that deal with water, and one where I was driving on a scary, dark, windy road, and I wasn't sure how to get home, but I figured I'd just see if things were familiar, and follow my gut. I've also had 3 dreams that have turtles in them, so that probably means something.

I was once told that when doing (vision) quests to meet guides/animal totems that if something appreared to you 3 times it usually indicates that it is your guide or current teacher. Same goes for them appearing in dreams.
Turtles are amoung my favorite (wolves & dolphins being my primary). As a totem/spirit guide they represent Motherhood, longevity, and awakening opportunities, as well as the planet (Mother Earth) In dreams it may include the balance between the emotional and physical self, inner reflection, various degrees of protection and strength (from too much - too little).
The scary windy road, I think you already covered that when you mentioned your stress and confusion about life direction. You will get to where you need to go, just follow the road to the best of your ability.
