In the moonlit sands of the beach a pale Aeri stallion roamed. He felt no need to graze this early in the evening, and should he find himself hungry seaweed was just as good. He was quiet as one could be walking along the sand, hooves dragging slightly if just for the feel of the soft, tiny grains.
Green eyes looked out to the water as he paused in his steps. This place seemed his only solace. There were few Nequus that wished to be with such an Aeri, sometimes seeming cold and distant. It was truly his own way of making sure he didn't get attached. Attachment could cloud judgement, though that mattered little to him. His friendships never seemed to last long. Another heartbreak was something he did not want again.

It wasn't often that Shore suffered from insomnia. It was all the time. So, naturally, he was out staring at the sands glistening bright with the light of the soft orb in the sky. There wasn't much to be gained with these sands, but he found them beautiful, especially from a distance upon some of the surrounding cliffs.
Tonight, however, he remained on the lower skirts, not trusting his tired self to be near the treacherous plummets in elevation.
It didn't take him long to discover another shadow lurking amongst the serenity, and Shore was never one to chase away potential company. With one ear cocked back and his head carrying that typical grin, he sidled his plump body towards the other.
"Good Evening," he beamed, coming alongisde to keep pace. So it wasn't really evening, but 'Good Night' sounded like more of a goodbye.

Lost in his own reverie, Zopyros was slightly startled as the purple-hued Aeri came up beside him. He tried not to show it, though a slight shudder through his heavy muscles showed that he had been startled. "Good Evening."
He repeated this back, eyes turning to see the other male who had decided to keep company with him. There seemed no ill-intentions, though this other didn't seem very well rested. "Zopyros, is what I am called." He spoke quietly, keeping his pace slow. There was no rush to get anywhere, no need for the extra expendature of energy.

If Shore had noticed, he made no comment on the fact. His ears turned at the sound of 'Good Evening', glad there wasn't hooves to his head instead. Silly? Not really, people were nuts.
Fat perhaps, but well rested, no. Zopyros was peg on.
Ah, jumping to the chase. Shore liked a person that said names first and drawled on with pleasantries later. "You can call me Shore," he said mildly, swishing his tail as the wind ruffled it.
As for the slow pace, Shore loved it. He wasn't particularily fond of moving unless necessary - which it often was. A bit of a pickle that posed him. But what could one do?
He opened his mouth to ask a question, and then reconsindered. He'd let the other one do the asking.
Crunch
Shore paused and looked down.
Oh dear.
Smashed underneath his foot was a rather delicate looking shell. Well, it was fragile enough for his weight to decimate. "Pity," he said with a sigh, moving around the fragments with his toe.

Some might be nuts... But Aeri were typically mind-mannered, Zopyros in particular being a gentle soul. He made no comment about the other's weight. It was none of his bussiness if this other Aeri decided he wished to carry extra weight upon his frame.
"Shore it is. Good to meet you." He replied, shifting his wings against his back as the wind ruffled his fur and mane. He saw nothing of the other opening his mouth, but turned to see as he heard the crunching of the shell. It was something that happened often... Even the gentlest of touches broke the delicate shells.
"There are many shells... If you did not crush it, others would have." Maybe slightly cynical, but rather true.

It wasn't the fact that it was crushed. It was the thought that he had crushed it. Not that he would have done anything with it, but it was always nice to look at them complete. He would liked to have glimpsed it before it was nothing more than shards.
"There are many Nequus," Shore mused.
What an odd truth, as well. He wouldn't be crushing them anytime soon, but others are liable to. "Does that mean that each one is not of necessity to save?"
Oh sure, Shore, just go asking the literal questions. He chuckled to himself. He always asked the literal questions.

Hm. Zopyros didn't truly know what to say... At least not for a few moments. He didn't want to alienate this Nequus from him... He seemed so content in his company.
"No... But Nequus are not so fragile as sea-shells... And sea-shells are discarded when they get too small. Nequus are not." He tried to approach the question logically... And truly hoped that Shore got the gist of what he was trying to say.

Shore often had the speechless effect on peoeple. Mostly it was due to the fact that he was well look at him. If there was once anything pretty about it him, the ocean had long since stolen it.
Shore grinned. "I guess it depends on the person collecting shells," he added with a wink.
He begged to differ. People were as fragile as these shells, even if all of it wasn't physical. He was sure there were some that discarded those that were to weak to leave. He had his own hypothesis on the matter, but that was to be told another time.
"How about it Zopyros, shall we collect shells?" It seemed like such a silly thing to do, but, in the dark among the sand, who was here to call them strange names?

"I suppose it might." Those collecting the shells would think them beautiful... But the creatures that had discarded them thought little of the tiny homes, other than that they needed newones.
Turning to look at Shore at the silly suggestion, Zopyros smiled a bit. "Those that we can find, sure." It would be nice to keep some company for a time. The night was still young, and they could have some fun before it was time to sleep again.

Shore grinned right back. Yes, two men collecting shells on the beach - it was scandalous. Yet, anyone would know, despite Shore's coloring, he was as straight as the towering cliffs of the ocean.
Leaving the fragmented one to the dust he ventured out towards the splashing waves, the foams making ringlets where his hooves dug into the sand. The steady sound of the waves was comforting, and he thought he might just get some sleep tonight.
His head lowered to the gound he began the steady tip toe nature of searching for the small things. There were sure to be plenty just washed up on the shore, and maybe a few that hadn't left yet.
"Shout if you find anything!" he called loudly against the spraying water.

Since many did not know Zopyros, it would be hard to tell if he thought this was more than a friendship. Given his apprehensive demeanor however, they could figure that he and Shore were merely friends.
Straying towards the wetter sand of the beach, the white and gray Aeri stretched his wings for a moment before settling them again to look for the delicate shells. "I will!" He called back to the other, lowering his head to watch for tiny shells.
There were many fragments pounded by the sea... Slowly becoming part of the light sand here on the beach. A few shells untouched, baby clam shells... So tiny, he was sure that it would be impossible to pick them up. So he continued to search, on occation his tail twitching from the touch of the wind.

Shore was having the worst of luck. He hadn't even found any baby shells yet, just a bunch of sand. He briefly wondered if Zopyros had found anything yet, but he hadn't heard any shouts. Then again, the waves were loud.
Pausing to give his neck a break, he surveyed his surroundings. Maybe he would have better luck up by the cliffside? Thinking that yes, this would be a good idea he ventured up in that direction, scanning for anything and everything that spoke 'shell'.
There wasn't much. He came across a very interesting rock, but that was about it. Still, searching for shells took patience, and he wasn't going to give up just yet. Well, it was liable he wasn't going to give up at all, but he didn't think his company would prefer to be at this all night.
At last he came across something. It was occupied, but shell none the less. He watched it skitter to and fro, pause to hide when he shifted. He was rather nervous as to pick it up or two reasons: It might very well pinch him, and he wouldn't like to be picked up if he were that creature. So, he simply settled himself with watching it for a time.
"Zopyros," he called over his shoulder. "Look here."

Usually the dawn brought most of the shells... After the creatures had shed them during the night, they would wash up. Or at least, Zoyros had observed.
All that seemed to be there tonight were baby shells, and a few occupied. Watching as a snail battled the waves, his ears perked as he heard what sounded like Shore. Lifting his head, he looked around for a few moments.
Finding his companion by the cliffside he moved to follow him over there. "What did you find?" Zopyros called out as he walked over, hooves sinking slightly into the wet sand as he stopped nearby to see the shell skitter across the sand.

Shore motioned to the small moving shell that Zopyros had no doubt already spotted. It was a decent sized thing, with a very swirly home to show off. The creature itself was a bright blue color and it poked its way along nervously.
Zopyros' shadow quickly scared it back into hiding.
"I wonder what its called?" Shore asked. He knew the names of some, but he wasn't an expert on the ocean. He was sure someone along the line had taken the task of naming each and every one.
Maybe Zopyros knew?

Sure, he had seen it. Hm. The swirly shell he had seen before, but he hadn't seen such an oddly colored creature before. The little things inside of the shells were usually red... Or sometimes white.
Watching as the little thing scurried back inside of its shellf at the sight of him, Zopyros lightly kicked a bit of sand backwards. Why did they always hide? Nequus didn't eat such things.
"I don't know what it's called...But in the summertime, a lot of the red ones come on the beach and die after they lay eggs in the ocean." It was an odd sight to see, to be sure.
