Someone who hacked about 4k users on Neopets and several peeps on Runescape is now on Gaia. Just look around the welcome forum. It's kinda creepy. Watch out for him. He get's people in rallies and games. So if I were you I'd watch out just to make sure. He/she calls themselves the laughing man.

Just make your passwords hard and also don't go into any game or hollywood or anything like that. Stick to forums until this guy is caught. He said it himself that is his easiest way to get victims.

Please calm down, everyone. That is such a freaking lie. It's true that someone has hacked into the Towns/Rallies/Hollywood database, but they cannot get to your account. Okay? Say it with me: they cannot get into my account through Towns. It's just some idiotic spammers who make your avatar appear to say things when you're not typing them. That is it. If Towns were really so dangerous, do you think the admins would let it remain up? Come on. With all they do to protect us, you have to give them some credit, at least.
As for this twerp in the Welcome to Gaia forum, what kind of hacker is going to like.... announce himself? That's crap. It's bullshit. It's a lie. Just because someone says something doesn't make it true. We all know that by now. Most likely, that's some twelve year old kid who thinks it's funny to make people freak out for whatever reason. If he or she could hack your account, they would be doing it, not making posts about it.
Come on, girls, pull yourselves together. We're all a little paranoid because Shin-chan almost got hacked, but that's no reason to start acting this way. Towns and Rallies are perfectly safe, as long as you use the same reservations you do anywhere else. Sending all of your items to your mules doesn't make any sense. Part of the fun of Gaia is wearing those items. Besides, there's nothing that automatically makes your mule safer than your main.
Hackers are scary, but when you take the chances to prepare against them, you can take the risk down a lot. That means: not giving your password to anyone except someone you really trust. Do not give out ANY ANSWERS to your secret questions - which yes, means you have to know what they are. Don't be free with your e-mail address. Don't click on links from people you don't know, even if they're disguised as something simple. If you don't know, don't click. Always make sure the address you are signing into is Gaia Online. If you sign in on a public computer, make sure no one else is watching and that you sign out afterwards. If you have a fight with a friend who knows your password, change it. Have a very complex password - numbers, letters, and special characters are best, and the longer, the better. If someone PMs you claiming to be a mod or admin, and they want your password, report that sucker, no matter what color the name is. Mods and admins will never ask for your password. If you do all of those things, then you're making it a lot harder for anyone to hack your account.
Finally, Volly, a little bit of shame to you for posting this kind of thread. I know you wanted to protect everyone but you've set paranoia running high. The next time you see someone like that, you should just report the person and forget about them. They're not even worth your precious time.

I'm Sorry Sailor!!! crying It's just people have been passing it around the site and he's been pysching me out. I talked to him. He just...scares me. I just wanted to tell people to look out for him and just maintain security. I didn't mean to scare everyone, but the presence of bad people is everlasting. We can't ignore that fact. I just wanted to say because people have been saying he's gotten into their accounts and such... With so many people agreeing with it and him daring anybody to go near, and talking to me, I just got a little psyched out and decided to tell people just to look out for bad people in towns and stuff. So I stand by my statement about a bad person being out there, sorry if I over exaggerated a bit. I relayed what I know what was stated.

It's okay that you wanted to help the PPS out by warning us, but instead of just telling everyone about this guy, some tips about how to protect ourselves would have been more helpful. Even links to tutorials or something like that, you know? In cases like this people just tend to freak out and often, they're not thinking clearly. It's times like this that you need a clear head the most. Also, when people get hacked, they'll blame whomever it closest, basically [such as the ones claiming they were hacked through Towns]. Those may have also been mules of his lying about it.
P.S. -> is that you in your siggy? you're so pretty.

Geez Chibi, it's not like we're having panic attacks. All you had to tell us was not to worry. stare And you didn't have to give us all those rules about hackers, either - we all know. We were just kind of concerned. No one wants to lose their account.
