The sun was growing low on the horizon, casting a firey flame of a light upon the drab lands of the elephant graveyard. This point of the day was always a striking one. It seemed as if the bones were all stirred up in a heated rage. However, it wasn't just the bones that seemed unsettled, Mafa, the self proclaimed ruler of these lands was also in quite a foul mood. This week hadn't exactly been a good one. It had all started off with the arrival of Tukutu, a blast from her past. Just having him around stirred up feelings in the female that she didn't really like. They made her weak, and Mafa abhorred weakness.
With an angry sigh, Mafa halted her patrol for a few moments as she stared out into the piercing sun. Things were slowing down around here, and she didn't like that. Ever since she'd given birth to the pups, and rather dissapeared for a little while, the graveyard seemed to crawl to a halt. The female cocked her head to the side, thinking about it with great pride. This place needed her, it was as simple as that. The land, and all that lived and breathed here belonged to her. Looked like she had to take things into her own paws.
The dusty hyena started up her patrol again, it was refreshing to be out again, sniffing out intruders and the like. She was on high hopes that she'd encounter a lion she could tear up; frustrations were building in the alpha. She could use some release. A light, fresh breeze blew by, ruffling Mafa's fur and stirring the dust up slightly. Her fateful breeze was back. Things were about to change.

Kelello looked like a peice of the scenery as she padded aimlessly through the sun-touched graveyard. Her coat reflected the melting red in the sky, free and shimmering with color where a slight bulge had begun to grow on her abdomen. However, her movement more resembled the bones scattered this way and that across the landscape, stiff and without any purpose other than to remind one of what once was. Indeed, she had been feeling more broken nowadays than usual, for she had found love which she couldn't keep, and now bore the consequences of it; she would be bringing others into a world she never wanted anyone else to experience, into hell.
She'd been avoiding Mafa these past few weeks, in fear of how her captor would react. But now, as she stopped short, suddenly realizing that Mafa had made her way close to her as she was in the depths of thought, she knew that there was no hiding now.
She gulped and stepped timidly forward, bowing her head so that the tip of her nose touched the floor. "Mafa," she acknowledged.

Mafa had kept her head elevated; dry, black nose sniffing at the breeze, trying to decipher what it was telling her this time. The female's cold, aqua eyes were firmly shut, obviously in a deep state of concentration. Suddenly, there it was, a scent, wafting across her nostrils. Familiar, yet... forgotten. Mafa's eyes snapped open, her pupils contricting as soon as light poured in. Dog.
Mafa cursed herself for letting the matter slide from her mind. The wild dog made slave. Her slave. Her property. She'd been quite wrapped up with the pups to noticed that little Kelello had been no where to be found. Now that she thought of it, she could've used that mutt's help. Mafa felt her blood start to boil. She'd taken that thing in, whipped it into submission, and yet, it had seemed to run off. Seemingly, it was back now, and Mafa was in no mood to forgive and forget. Just as she was about to move forward, a soft voice sounded from before her. An icy glare zeroed in on the striped animal as a growl rumbled from the alpha's throat. Mafa made no move towards the dog just yet, or to take a good and mockery. Mafa was not satisfied, not one bit,
"Well, well, Kelello. To what do I owe this pleasure?" The female snarled, baring yellowed fangs, "I was not aware that you were allowed to come and go as you pleased..."

Kelello let out a whimper of fear as her eyes locked with the fierce gaze of Mafa. Oh, she isn't happy. The little wild dog molded herself to the floor in a submissive crouch, only moving to briefly touch Mafa's chin with her nose in a gesture of forgiveness.
"Forgive me, Mafa. I never would stray from the graveyard; I had not been able to find you for quite some time."
Kelello knew she was lying through her teeth, but what else was there to do? She had heard rumors about new pups, and had hoped Mafa was too busy with them to notice her absence so soon, but it seemed life just didn't work that way for her. Who knew what was going to happen to her now.. Her eyes flicked briefly downwards, as if she could see the bump on her abdomen sitting at her paws. If Mafa were to stirke her in just the right spot...
"I had another dream," she blurted, hoping to distract the angry hyena. "You ordered me to inform you of them. I think you might find this one interesting."

Mafa's growls didn't subside as Kelello crept closer, keeping low to the ground in submission. Seeing such willing and complete submission to her was definitely an ego boost, if the dog played it's cards right, Mafa figured, she'd let her live. The hyena snapped her teeth as her little slave groveled beneath her. She kept her neck arched, towering over the pitiful sight below her. A loud scoff echoed out of Mafa's mouth as she heard the dog speak. Forgiveness was not in the cards today. She circled around her target slowly,
"It's no excuse."
Mafa took a these few moments to sniff over Kelello, trying to gauge where she'd been. There was a foreign smell to her fur, one she wasn't familiar with at all. And it wasn't exactly of the graveyard either. Mafa's glare intensifyed, she'd been off fraternizing about, something Mafa had definitely forbidden. The alpha had locked eyes with the little female before her, and that eye contact was broken as the wild dog's gaze seemed to flicker to her belly. Before Mafa could go about prying deeper, Kelello spoke. Mafa's ears perked up, her gaze now brimming with curiosity. Ah yes, it was the reason she hadn't offed the wild dog right off the bat. She could see things, things that hadn't happened, things that had. Little Kelello had a gift, and that pleased Mafa exponentially.
"Out with it, now. Tell me, before I lose my patience."

It's no excuse.
"I know," she sighed, knowing it would be pointless to apologize further. Mafa had a hard head on her, there was no doubting that.
"Well," she began hesitantly, "I saw this puppy. A wild dog," she said this with a hint of bitterness in her voice, for she had long known that she was indeed a wild dog, not a hyena as Mafa had led her to believe, which she had learned through age. And she was almost certain she wasn't scum, nor dirt, despite feeling like it at times.
"The puppy was lost in a thick, dark fog, and crying out for help. I tried to help it, but it couldn't see me. I kept running, but could never reach it," she said such sadness and defeat, as if the puppy had been a tangible creature rather than something existing solely in her mind. "But after some time, the fog cleared and the darkness vanished and turned into light, almost as if the sun just suddenly exploded. I could see the silhouette of the puppy running into the light before the brightness became too much for me, and then everything was just white."
Kelello swallowed nervously. "And then I woke up." And that had been it, really. She had come to a few ideas of what the dream had signified since, but none seemed to fit completely. Nevertheless, maybe Mafa'd make good use of it.

Mafa nodded arrogantly as Kelello agreed with her. She knew Kelello had a mind of her own, and was probably internally cursing her as they spoke, however, she chose to not acknowledge it. The dog was broken, she wouldn't dare defy her. Mafa began pacing again as Kelello spoke. She was listening intently to the dog's words, but her eyes were carefully trained on Kel. Cogs churned in the alpha's brain as she tried to interpret what Kelello had dreamed. It seemed to make no sense. Mafa pondered on the images described to her, puppy running to the light.
"Perhaps it was you. You can run for it, but you'll never attain you freedom, Kelello. You're mine."
Mafa snapped her jaw at her last statement, emphasizing it more. Mafa had no intention in the world of ever relenquishing the hold she had on this creature. She was much too useful, whether it was her dreams, or an ego boost, Mafa had found having Kelello around very beneficial. Mafa took a deep breath, thinking for a second longer, but her thinking didn't last long. Her thoughts were jarred immediately by a stark realization. A wide, angry stare caught Kelello quickly. Why hadn't Mafa noticed before, she didn't know, but the little female definitely smelled different, as she was a little plumper. Pregnant. Kelello was pregnant. Mafa couldn't help but let out an eerie, characteristic cackle. The female shook her head, voice dripping in scorn
"My slave, a little sleaze, it seems! Tell me Kelello, when did you plan on telling me about your most unfortunate child-bearing situation?"

"Perhaps," Kelello thought aloud, though the concept of the puppy being herself didn't jar her at all. It had been one of the possibilites she'd considered, but one that she had mostly brushed off.
"I know," she agreed once more, dipping her head in a combination of submission and hopelessness, "But I have no desire to attain freedom. I only know the Graveyard. I don't feel as though I would know what to do in the rest of the world." Saying this, her voice dripped with raw pain. If her vision had truly been about herself, then the gods were mocking her. She would always be a slave, she had no doubt in that.
She cringed as Mafa appeared to look her over, feeling as though Mafa's gaze alone was tearing her fur off. Maybe Mafa would notice.. She closed her eyes for a moment, preparing herself for the worst. And then it came.
"I-I'm s-sorry," she stuttered, flattening herself as far as she could go until her distended abdomen hit the ground. "I -- I didn't mean. Please," she whimpered.

Mafa was, at that point, a little lost on words. What else could she say? The slave had defied her orders, and obviously gone off with one of her own kind. It looked like Kelello was growing out of being that naive little pup Mafa had dragged in months ago. Mafa couldn't find words, but she could find emotions. Rage. Anger at Kel's acts. Whoever the father was, he wasn't in their ranks. There were only two slaves, as far as Mafa knew, and both were female. Before she could think any more, Mafa's rage got to the best of her, blinding her as she lashed out.
Mafa lunged at the pathetic creature before her, fangs bared as she leapt. Her attack hit home as she sunk her teeth into the loose scruff on Kelello's neck. The hyena put her considerable weight into the attack, lifting the smaller animal and tossing her to the ground. When she was down, Mafa rushed over, her aura seething with malicious intent. She'd beat on Kelello before, but she'd never drawn blood, at least not so much. Then again, she'd never been this angry. She continued to bite at the defenseless wild dog, letting her teeth sink into the dog's meaty thigh, later dragging them out, leaving a series of deep gashes. Mafa's vision was shrouded in red as she continued her attack. But thankfully for Kelello, her rage soon passed.
Mafa spat Kelello's blood and orange fur from her mouth, turning from the bloodied wild dog laying on the dusty ground. The attack had only lasted a few minutes, but to Kelello, it must've seemed like an eternity. A hint of worry hit Mafa, and she whipped around, looking over Kelello's wounds. Seemingly, she hadn't hit to kill, as most of the wild dog's wounds were superficial. She'd heal, and her pups would be fine.
"You don't defy me Kelello. Ever."
Mafa's tone was fierce with malintent as she spoke. She couldn't help but be angry, she didn't like to be disobeyed. It was then, that Mafa's mind wandered to Kel's dream. A light at the end of the darkness. Perhaps... Perhaps there would be some use to this situation yet...

For a long set of moments, Kelello simply laid there on the dusty ground, her green eyes wide and full of surprise. Although she had anticipated punishment from Mafa, she had never imagined such a brutal attack. She grimaced as she finally turned her head, inspecting the gashes running down her body. Although she could not see it, she felt blood running down her neck in meandering streams, bathing her white fur and the ground beneath in red.
"My pups," she muttered sorrowfully, curling herself into a ball. She couldn't even try to stand. Everything hurt, everything felt sticky with blood. In that moment, she thought she must be dying. She whimpered, finally turning her attention back to Mafa, though not moving anything more than her head.
"What did you do?"

As a mother herself, Mafa felt a smell twang of pity run through her. The pups, of course Kelello was scared for them, it was only natural. But as soon as it had come, the pity melted away, and Mafa felt nothing but dominance. With a scoff, she shook her head as Kelello laid there, motionless. Mafa was a skilled fighter, her whole life had been built up upon attacking others. She knew what she was doing. Had she wanted to hurt the pups, she would've placed her bites differently. But no, it was only Kelello that deserved the punishment.
"They'll be fine, I have no doubt."
If anything, this was a chance for Kelello to prove herself worthy to belong to Mafa. Afterall, Mafa hadn't chosen any other wild dog. No, she'd chosen Kel. Loooking around for a moment, Mafa thought for a bit, until her eyes stopped on a pile of bones. It seemed to be the carcass of a smaller mammal, perhaps even a lion cub. Mafa walked to it, sticking her nose into the bones, she pulled out a set of three rib bones in pairs. Keeping them firmly in her grasp, she walked quietly over to Kelello, her rage apparently subsided. She laid down the bones gently before Kel, and looked to her expectantly.
"Get up."

Get up? That was the last thing Kelello wanted to do. As she laid there in a quivering ball, she felt as though her body had molded into a position that could never be undone. However, Mafa's voice seemed to ring in her ears as she thought this. "You don't defy me Kelello. Ever." She couldn't afford not to move.
Slowly, she unbunched herself, her teeth clamping down onto her bottom lip in agony. She could see Mafa shuffling about before her, but her mind could only register the task at hand. She brought forth one paw, then the next, and pushed up. Her body rose until she stood stiffly on her own, but even then she was somewhat swaying from the pain. She lifted the leg that had been most brutally attacked, afraid to let it absorb any of her weight.
Finally, her eyes fixed on Mafa, and then curiously to the bones that had been laid before her. They glimmered against the setting sun, making the bones appear as though still bathed in the blood of their owner. A long shudder shook through Kelello's body. She could only imagine what Mafa wanted with them.

Mafa decided she would wait patiently for Kelello to stand. And when she thought patiently, it was more along the lines of a few mere seconds. Any longer, and she'd snap at the wild dog. The alpha huffed impatiently, and to her enjoyment, the dog gritted her teeth and stood. Mafa could tell the young animal was in a considerable amount of pain, mental and physical, but despite all that, she still complied. As Kelello was concentration on standing, Mafa let herself smirk, rather proud of herself for breaking the slave's spirit. It was quite... enlightening.
"Yes..."
Mafa nodded wiseley, her stoney complexion back on her face, not a sliver of emotion displayed. Slowly, she paced a circle around Kel, simply to make her stand longer. When she reached back around Kel's front, her head dipped down, picking up the series of bones in her mouth. With a paw, she reached up, firmly placing it on Kelello's neck and pushing her head down to the ground. Once the wild dog was in this position, she manuvered the set of bones onto her neck, fitting it on like a collar. The bones were tight, and would grow tighter as Kelello grew. It fit her, Mafa deemed. Releasing the dog, Mafa stepped back to admire her handiwork. Now it was official, Kelello was ths slave of the alpha.
"Suits you, Kelello. That's not coming off."

Kelello stood shakily as Mafa circled around her. At this point, she was barely aware of the blood that continued to gush from her wounds, or even the sound of Mafa's claws clicking on the ground; all of her attention was focused on keeping her paws planted firmly on the ground and not giving way to the temptation of gravity.
Kelello's eyes squeezed shut when she felt the hyena step towards her. Whatever was coming next, she didn't want to know. As the collar shifted down to her throat, she felt as though claws were being raked down her neck. But to the young wild dog's surprise, when her eyes did slide open enough to peer at the contraption settled about her neck, she saw that it had been the pile of bones at her paws moments before.
"What?" She said, looking to Mafa in confusion. It's not coming off? "What's this for?"
She craned her neck forward and shifted a few times, but the bones, which jutted uncomfortably into her skin, stayed in place. This had to be some cruel joke...

Mafa watched Kelello's mind race as she slid on the collar through cold, unfaultering eyes. It was just another show of dominance, really. Mafa had to prove to herself, to Kelello, and to everyone else that she could do whatever it was she wanted to this dog, and the dog would comply. Power play. The alpha scoffed, backing away a few more steps. Her slave was looking quite grizzled and uncomfortable. However, she looked just like Mafa had envisioned it in her mind; broken, yet yearning for life.
"To mark you as mine, Kelello. How else would they know?"
Mafa was referring to the rest of the pack, and to any other creature that might catch a glimpse of Kelello might she decide to 'wander' off. The collar wasn't something she could have gotten on herself, it would hint to the world that she was the possesion of another. And the bones marked her as coming from the graveyard. Perhaps, it was like a little insurance policy. Kelello would always find her way back home, now that Mafa had her way. At the same time, Mafa had the skills of a leader, and she knew that to be followed and her word obliged, her underling needed some hope. Perhaps, however, it was more hopeful in Mafa's mind than it would be in Kel's,
"It also marks you as being on the top. Of the slaves that is. It's one of the perks to belonging to me, you see. We've got more of your kind on the way, I expect you to be a good example. Teach the new ones, and yours on the way to be submissive and respectful. My little Matron Slave."
