Within the darkness stars shone light, amid trees a black shape moved effortlessly through them. No sounds save for a slight gust of wind as he passed. Pausing nearby a lake the black Kitsu paused and stared at the dark sky. Reflected in his eyes the moon was large and full silver stands pierced the earth bringing soft blue warmth with it.
The black Kitsu tore his gaze from the sky and stared out at the water. Things were always so peaceful at night. A slight smile crossed his face. Mother had gone to see her new nieces and nephews. Meaning that Hakyoku now had more cousins. Had more family than he could count in itself. He loved his family very much above all else and took care of all his siblings growing up, as he should have being the eldest. Hakyoku gave a sigh.
He began to walk around the lake curious if anyone was around. Perhaps a meeting might be interesting the half demon thought.

The stars of this world were bright, a nice change to what the female was used to. Her world had slowly grown polluted, the once clear atmosphere fogged over and matted to an insulting color. And so it was in this peace of night cover that Setsu took the pause to admire the sky above in its darkest hue. With each star twinkling in rapid strength and the moon the brilliant queen to her own realm above, glowing in sweet allure.
Kitsusagi ears shifted against the cold grass underneath, Setsu reclined on her back to catch the fullest sight possible of the night sky. Heavy tails lay limply coiled near her boots, each small scale glinting faintly of moonlight. Aside from the subtle curls of her tail tips, the female was unmoving. No slow pattern of breathing from her frame, making her appear like a death forgotten form stranded on the lake side.
Glazen eyes narrowed as they kept to the sky, and her front paws made the smallest shift to cling at the ground. It was very faint, hardly even there, but it was there. A small vibration to be felt in the ground of another individual nearby. But where or who it even may be, Setsu couldn't tell. The warnings were too ghostly to read any details from. And so she remained, waiting for whatever may happen.

Hakyoku sniffed the air, a strange sent caught his attention, it seemed as though something had died or was dying. He could smell decay in the air. He looked around briefly and noticed a form on the other side of the lake. Who was it? A corpse? Hakyoku continued toward the decaying smell.
Stepping gently he walked closer to the unmoving form laying on it's back. "Hello?" He said calmly. He didn't know why he asked it smelt heavily of death wasn't it dead? He wondered He sensed something else though maybe it was an undead. He read about them in a book once a long time ago.

An odd awareness draped over her senses, like how it felt when one thought they weren't alone. Or when one could feel another's eyes on their turned back. Indigo and red eye opened just in the same moment that the black kitsusagi spoke up. All she took notice of at first was the night sky, before scanning her eyes to the side to finally glimpse the other. How had he gotten so near without her feeling his steps on the ground? It was almost as if he had floated to her location, a ghostly presence she almost missed.
Setsu stretched off her back and onto her side, hoodie and tail coat crinkling and shifting. Ears lay back in collected calmness, observing the stranger before her. He didn't seem threatening, but that was just a bookcovre reading. The femme blinked before finally responding. "Hello. And what brings you here, if I may inquire?"

Surprise overcame him for but a moment before he regained his composure. The corpse it spoke and it was the voice of a female Kitsusagi. This was new come what may. He thought whisking his tails slightly to his side. He didn't even have to sniff as the decayed sent filled his nostrils.
"I came by chance I smelt something." he said simply with a slight smile Why bother lying it was true after all. "My name is Hakyoku." he said coolly with a pause he opened his mouth again and spoke "May I inquire as to you name?"
It didn’t seem as though she meant any ill will but it would be an interesting chance encounter.

Smelt something? Setsu merely kept glancing to the other dully, having no doubts what that scent could be. She was just too used to it by now that it was no longer of concern to herself. But it never ceased to amuse her all the different reactions it received. Some were curious, while others were disgusted. Some even willing to put an end to the scent's source...whatever good that would to them.
The relaxed femme absorbed the name with a nod. Hakyoku...not the easiest thing to pronounce. But something to remember. She turned back to the lake, tails flicking and curling lightly. "I'm Setsu. Pleasure." It's not everyday she made such...passive encounters. Most were hostile or tense. And maybe it was even the night air, lulling her into a fatiqued calm? Who knows. One ear flicked back to the male. "Enjoying this night then? Or on some travels." What point did anyone have to stay awake other than those plagued with insomnia. Or undeath.

Hakyoku smiled awkwardly "I mean I have an over sensitive nose I can smell things most people can't," he tried to explain. Something in the back of his mind made him feel as though he had insulted her some how... Even though the smell was thick he tried to ignore it and didn't make any disgusted face.
The black cyan-eyed kitsu gave nod "The pleasure is all mine Setsu." his gaze fell back across the lake and the stars reflection in the clam waters. The night was calm and peaceful. Hakyoku calmly nodded again,
"Indeed I am, and perhaps, both... Traveling in the night is much more peaceful."
He returned his gaze to Setsu "And you?" he asked of the mysterious samurai kitsu.

It was often too difficult to tell if the undead kitsu was insulted, being her face was set in placid stone. Perhaps it was her tone of voice that gave something akin to emotions to read? Either was, Setsu only flicked an ear to the male's explainings. Was he making apology for something unneeded? She turned to Hakyoku, mildly perplexed by his demeanor. It was too....polite. Something she wasn't used to being or receiving.
Setsu remained mute as she shifted once again, sitting on her haunches with tail curled firmly beside her. It was...awkward, to sit so like a canine. But it was something to get used to. Eyes scanned the still surface of the lake, sometimes catching ripples made by bugs landing on the liquid. "Me?" What was she doing...she hadn't considered before. "I suppose the same. Simply...wasting time. Letting it pass."

Noticing the puzzled stare before she returned her face to its normal stone cold form Hakyoku turned to her "Have I done something?" he inquired. He was unaccustomed to others finding common courtesy offence. And of course some Mainly monks and other demons upon finding out what he was often tried to 'exorcise' or 'devour' him being his was a half demon creature. Although his politeness still stood even through rough times.
Hakyoku listened as she spoke and once again gave a calm polite nod of his head before speaking. "Wasting time..." he muttered quietly that was another way to put it.
"Mind if I sit?" he inquired

The femme shook her head, staring at the lake still before glimpsing at the other kitsu. "No. You haven't done a thing. It's new to me." Maybe shocking, but she wasn't all that emotional to really say it was. It wasn't offensice, just...unexpected. But then again, the other was still unaware of her state of being. That tended to play a major role on how others reacted.
Head tilted to his question, Setsu shrugging lightly before turning back to the lake. It mirrored the night sky perfectly, like an upside-down world. "It's of no bother to me. Your decision." He must be wasting time as well, if easily considering to stop his wanderings.

What’s new? Courtesy? Hakyoku mulled over the thought. Perhaps she had a few issues with other kitsu that hated her as well for being what she was. Hakyoku sympathized with her.
Her sent gave her away it was the smell of a rotting corpse and he couldn't see anyone else around or a glossy leaves. The smell emanated from her and she was animated. There wasn't a necromancer near by or something like that. He had read in his books it took great power to raise the dead... Still she must have a hard time dealing with those that hated her, He did too, and he had to defend his sibling from those who tried to hurt them.
"Has no one else been polite to you?" he asked quietly
Accepting her invitation to sit and sat across from her. Wasting time...

The books were correct, it did take great powers to pull such stunts. But that was a long time ago, even before she became a kitsusagi. Sure she held the power of undeath, but she was lost to its abilities. The one who had gifted her a second chance never explained the limitations of functions of her existance.
Ears lifted as the other took the offer, sitting not too far from herself. And her tails went still before curling around her side as she listened to his question. "The few I meet? I suppose so. But...it's no issue to me. I find connections to be unneeded. No harm to me or them." It had always been that way. Becoming close with others was a risk of them getting hurt. And now, a pointless task. What kind of bond was worth made with an undead? None that she could see.
The femme glanced back to the other, dull eyes scanning the stranger. "And you?"

Hakyoku gave a nod she mustn't have family then. Bonds were crucial to his everyday life as his family was massive; it was the second largest kitsu family that he knew of. Those bonds were naturally important to him. But as for friends he didn't have to many he himself most drove him away. After she had finished speaking he replied to her question.
"Most other Kitsusagi leave me alone but I have a strong bond with my family." He said with a soft smile staring back out at the water. "But I don't find bonds unnessesary..."

Setsu canted her head with a small grin, almost bitter in some ways. Being unbothered by other kitsusagi, that seemed like a wish made. Surely being alone was better than being in annoying company or bickering encounters. She liked her peace and quiet, time to think and simply be without judgements.
"A family, you say." She peered back at the water, before tilting her chin up to see the depths of the night sky. "Now those bonds are dear." She wondered how her family was doing, her single sister somewhere off in another world. Muzzle smeared in a frown. "Then what are bonds, if not something to make you hesitate?" Weren't bonds just like there definition? A thing to restrain you? She believed so.

He gave a nod. His family was the one thing he treasured most. Smiling faintly he thought for a moment his mother was able to make friends easily because of her open and warm un judging nature, almost everyone she met became her friend. And to his mother those bonds were dear... Hakyoku turned back to Setsu "Bonds do not just tie you down to something, but also make you stronger..."
Gazing up at the sky and the moon once more often he was by himself or with his brother Saburou. He enjoyed his peace but he would gladly exchange that peace to be with his family.
