Discuss your personal preferences in anime. Whether it be what language it's in, subtitles or not, what genre you prefer, ... etc.

... While we're at it, we could maybe share our sources of anime, if we download them? >_> ... That's not against the ToS, is it? I'd check, but it's 3:20 AM right now, and I'm going to have visitors checking out the house again tomorrow morning. @.@ I need to sleep right away, so.. I'll post up this poll. I'll probably change the poll question every now and then, recording the results here, provided it's necessary.

Japanese with English Subtitles... Because American voice actors try too hard. Plus they cast guys as guys and girls as girls...

Actually that second part has nothing to do with it.

I like watching anime in English. I want to watch my cartoons, not read them. Besides, I tend to miss things when their subbed. I generally like characters' English voices better, as well.

As for genres... I dunno. Whenever I make a list of the anime I like, it usually ends up being a bunch of children's cartoons (like Pokemon or Hamtaro), action (Samurai Champloo or Inuyasha), or shoujo filled with implied buttsecks. gonk xd I guess I'll watch anything as long as I find it entertaining. I'm the same way with movies, books, etc.

And I think providing download sites is against the ToS. I always see people in AMC having a hissy fit when people ask for them or give links.

I prefer to watch it in English as well, for the same reason. I really hate reading subtitles. Sometimes they go to fast and I miss things so it's like I've missed half the story. Plus at the end I feel more like I've sat there and read something, rather than watched something. You don't really get to look at what is going on very much when you're trying to keep up with reading. So I really hate subtitles. I'd rather listen to it and get to watch what's going on instead of read what's going on. neutral

If you mean because the Japanese version had a woman playing Kenshin, that's what I mean. Kenshin's voice in Japanese was good... The character was supposed to be girly unless angered.

Goku was also voiced by a woman in Japanese. Toushiro is voiced by a woman in Bleach...

Yet when things come stateside, it must all be gender-specific.

Kyou Kara Maou was awesome. One of my favourites.

I personally hate styles that are geneirc for the sole purpose of being generic. I'm saying that it's okay, but when it's overused, I get bored and never bother with the anime. Like the Inuyasha manga thats filled with recycled head shapes ands eyes for almost ever character.

As for my preference, I prefer bizzare animes, animes that are influenced by western styled cartoons, and ones that a filled with culture and variety.

When I say bizzare, I like stuff like Fooly Cooly, and Paranoia Agent. I like them because there's alot of wild/fast exaggerated movements that flow quite well. And also the story makes you wonder......

As for Western Style influence, there's alot but I have favorites. The original Astro Boy may look back compared to todays standards but at the same time, it's every cool with it's nice rushed storytelling. One Piece's character designs seem to have some extent of western influence(more notable in the manga).... Sometimes it has that felling Astro Boy had, but better.

Culture is another major factor for me. Without it, the world would feel dry and uneventful. Long running animes in my opinion need this element to keep me interested. Examples I have watched that failed at this is Bleach, and Naruto. Though Naruto lacks it at a lesser extent, for some reason the world itself does not seem fleshed out at all. Great examples are One Piece, Cowboy Beebop, Samurai Champloo, and Samurai X(series). Thier worlds are verified and filled with people, dangers, and laws that fits its size.

That's about 1/4 my preferences. Ps. I NEVER downland anime. Waste of time. I rather stream or buy.

I've been hearing about that one a lot, recently. I watched some clips of it and it seems pretty amusing. XD I should really check it out one of these days. 3nodding

When I went to Otakon in Baltimore 2 years ago, you had to wear these necklace things so the security guards let you in... There were a couple different anime ones... But it has a Kyou Kara Maou one that I picked biggrin I still have it.

From what I know, a lot of the voice actors in Japan are women. And I don't think far enough about a guy character being voice acted by a woman because of how well they do their job.

Back a few years, there were barely any good American voice actors, so I would have watched things in Japanese with sub-titles if I had to. Now, I don't mind it so much watching things in English.
