Cantera, the Plague World.
All across the planet, people suffer. You see, chronic sickness is the rule rather than the exception here. To be born severely crippled or constantly feverish is to be normal. Everyone's sick, and let's face it: when you're down with a bad case of the common, there's no cure for you.
Almost.
Being a world of disease and infirmity, the brilliant medicinal minds are highly valued. Doctors make their living by turning the natural resources around them into sources of reprieve from sickness. Pills, syrups, salves- these are just the commonplace products in high demand everywhere. In even higher demand are the skills of setting flesh wounds on the fast track to repair. But their skills simply don't compare...
...to the Healers. Allegedly, these people tap into the Spiritual Plain, where the Cores of Life are said to hold the world together with their roots. While the existance of this place or the Cores are arguable, there's no denying that Healers wield powerful white magicks. Unlike the doctors of the world, Healers can erase flesh wounds in a flash and surpress the uncurable at mere whim. Generally, Healers become wealthy as they tour the land, bringing aid to those in need. That's practically everyone.
Of course, there are the rare few out there who need no treatment. In fact, they carry no diseases, sicknesses, or deformities. These few reminders that the gene pool isn't totally ruined are called the Pure. Pure people are born perfectly healthy. Though this generally leaves one open to all the contagious "normality" floating around, a Healer can protect them with many powerful spells shortly after birth to protect them. The procedure is normally costly. Hey, who cares? A family with a Pure is a family on the fast track to wealth, considering that the Pure can perform most tasks better than anyone. Though loathed by some, Pures are generally admired, by those who get to know them. Of course, not a lot of Pures become doctors. Nobody can really trust a doctor they can't relate with...
...but a Pure born with natural talents to Healing? These people are called Medics, and are the greatest boon to all of Cantera. There are a few epic tales of Medics throughout known history. All of them detail Medics who did great things, banished evil and performed miracles above any normal Doctor or Healer's abilities. These people earn what is practically eternal worship from the many lives they touch; indeed, many of the more devout believe that the Medics become as gods in the Spiritual Plane. It's truly the way the world as a whole finds the will to keep going. Generations thrive and grow simply to welcome the next Medic, all hoping to be saved from the sickness plaguing the world.
One fateful night, a child is born. That child's parents know of the child's destiny, and hide them away. One fateful day, that child awakens to their power. That power grows to heights never claimed in the greatest fables written.
The world would never be the same. Be not mistaken. This is no history text. This story isn't about Cantera, the different nations, the people in them, or even about Doctors and Healers.
This is a story about one child who grew up and shook the very foundations of the world.

But is it pants?
Medic! is a single-player endeavor in a brand new setting by Kunai. It's a deviation from his main setting called The Steam, The Knife, Paradise. It's also an open-ended, nonlinear adventure based on one of the beloved healer class present in most RPGs. Other noteworthy features:
Custom spellcrafting system Combine an enormous number of parameters to create spells and name them yourself!
Total party management The player is not only in control of themselves during combat, but party members as well. Equip them and level them as you see fit.
Interesting minigames and side quests Choose from hundreds of short jobs in a variety of towns for fun and profit; unearth common items and rare artifacts in a hex grid-based digging game; discover treasures by solving off-site riddles and hunts.
Sounds cool, right? Well, unfortunately, there are no openings for more than the main character. This is just the beginning; keep an eye out for the sequel. By then, the world of Cantera will be open to everyone in the guild.

Game Notes Inventories How about a brief explanation of how inventories work? All characters possess two inventories: Open inventory and Closed inventory. The Open inventory basically includes anything held in your hands, weapon sheaths/holsters, and anything that's levitating in close proximity and bound to you- through the Open inv. expanding spell Levinto or otherwise. Keep in mind that equipment such as weapons and shields are the only kind of equipment that also double as Open inventory. The Closed inventory is made up of pockets, pouches, bags, boxes, and so on. Pockets and pouches are on a common sense basis for restrictions. Not a lot of large objects can go in a pocket while still preventing encumberance (i.e. one side of your pants wanting to fall down). Larger containers will have limits on both size and weight. The biggest mechanical difference between Open and Closed is battle use. You can not use Closed inventory items in battle. It takes a combat turn to remove an item from Closed inventory and place it in Open inventory. Of course, it may take less or more time depending on the container and its position. When you obtain and equip a container or inspect it, you generally receive information on size/weight limit.

The Main Character of our Story Name: Blake Mitchell Gender: Male Age: 16 Appearance: Blake...is really shaggy. That's the way he's always been described. Wet, matted brown hair upon his head (which he claims to "style"), baggy blue jeans, and any assortment of hoodies and shirts make up his "trademark look". The one thing he doesn't let others know, the one thing that pisses him off, in fact, is that behind it all he's a pretty good-looking guy. The one thing that does shine through his facade though is his gaze. Piercing blue eyes. Every time you look at him in those eyes a wave seems to crash upon you, filling you with mysteries he's left unspoken before that point. The odd thing is that when you look away and retreat, back to what he wants you to see, all is forgotten just as quickly as it came. Personality: Quiet. Very quiet, very erratic, very intent on pleasing himself and being strange just because it makes him feel unique. He's young, even for his age, and tends to be shyer around the fairer sex than most boys his age. Blake does seem to gravitate towards others of a smiliar likeness, however. Now, if only he could find one... Illness: Hemophilia. Cherished jewelry: He never wears it, but his mom gave him an empty locket for his last birthday, before she left his father and him. He hasn't put any pictures in it, and doesn't really intend to. What he does do is keep it on him 24/7. In his pocket, for example. When he needs his mom's strength, he just gives that thing a little squeeze. Color: Blue. Weapon of Choice: Twin Daggers. As sharp as possible. Dreams for the future: To move as far away as possible. Away where the possibility of starting over at least exists. StatsPHY: ??? [||||||||||] 0.3TOU: ??? [||||||||||] 0.5RFX: ??? [||||||||||] 0.6WLL: ??? [||||||||||] 0.9LIF: ??? How would you describe your appearance? How would you describe your personality?
What is your illness? Choose something that definately hinders you, but make sure it allows for normal daily activity. What is your most cherished piece of jewelry? What is your favorite color?

If you had to put a weapon between you and another person, what would you feel safest with?
What kind of dreams do you have for the future?
