Well hey, we have fanthreads for a lot of actors, it seems fit to have one about the actual show 3nodding
So what drew you to Who? Why do you like it? What are some of the crazy fangirl/fanboy things you've done? All things discussed. Anything and everything you can think of.

I used to go to cons a lot in the late 80's--early 90's (there were loads around to attend back then--I went to THREE in 1991 alone! xd ). I have a friend I met at a con, she's like my sister now. She used to be on medication that was really bad, made her act crazy. She would literally POUNCE on the Doctor actors. Hug the daylights out of 'em, sometimes hard to make her let go! sweatdrop She got a bad rep as a psycho fan, but it was mostly the meds making her manic. She was rediagnosed & put on a way better med years ago, but we haven't been able to hit a Who con since before then. I'd kinda like to see if she'd behave better now. lol

My mom liked it, so I saw some (mostly Fourth Doctor, but I also saw "The Five Doctors", the TV movie, "The Curse of Fenric", and some of the new series) from the time when I was a little kid. Right after New Year's last year, I went on my own on YouTube and found as many Doctor Who stories as I could, mostly not Fourth Doctor. I really got addicted to it after that.
I asked my mom, and she says I liked the Fifth Doctor after seeing "The Five Doctors" as a kid. Kind of cool. According to her, when my grandmother once asked what was wrong (when nothing apparently was redface ), I told her it was, "just a twinge of cosmic angst." Nowadays, I dress up like the Eighth Doctor.

I used to collect comics, and happened to see an issue of Doctor Who on the rack (I think it was published by Marvel). Didn't buy it, but I remembered the name. Later that week, I was looking for something to watch on TV, and Doctor Who happened to be showing, so I decided to give it a shot. The episode was 'Earthshock', and I liked how lots of people got killed (including that annoying Adric), so I kept watching.
Then, after a few more episodes, the Doctor dies and suddenly turns into this weirdo with big curly hair. Who seemed to like shouting and strangling Peri (but don't we all?). Not having known about regeneration prior to that, I was like... WTF?!? I started to think the show was turning stupid.
Then I moved to California. They were showing Pertwee episodes on the local PBS station, and suddenly everything was right with the world again.
I'll be damned if I can figure out why I like the show.

Eirwyn Did anybody go to the Gally con this weekend??? I never get to go--it would cost a fortune! But there doesn't seem to be any good Who cons in the southwest any more. cry I think there was one in NYC a few years ago.. more of a general sci-fi though.. and I imagine if I went dressed as the Doctor (or something to show my pride in Who).. all the Trekkies would laugh and/or gawk at the teen who has heard of and likes (a lot) that old show. xDDD My dad is a Trek fan. He would fit in just fine. rolleyes
Heh, Eirwyn, weren't you the one with all the info on various cons in the US quite a while ago? But if I see/hear of anything over here, I'll let ya know. Even if it means a few of us storming in with Sonic Screwdrivers amidst all the other fandoms. XDDD
Edit: I've looked up a lot in NC/VA and they all seem to be scifi/anime/fantasy mix or just small groups for general scifi. Could be interesting, though.

Been ages since Eirwyn got a con list in her e-mail. She hasn't dropped off their mailing list though, because she was getting little notices about Dragoncon recently. No kidding--they just aren't doing Who cons around here any more! (And she screwed up--that's south EAST. rolleyes )

Hm.. there's some I can dredge up again, but like I said, they're very generalized and a lot have anime in the mix too. One said it was such a small group.. a little more than 500 people.. kinda like a family of fans. ^^
There's a few in North Carolina, about the same amount around VA (Richmond and DC aren't so bad.. just a few hours), and then one in South Carolina and Maryland. I think one was next week and the other was the 2nd/3rd week in March.
