This is a private roleplay for Lady Evelyn Nyht's Vidia and Wild Wind.

User Image Wide cyan eyes reflected back to the pale mare as she inspected her full grown body in the slow moving river. The same red scar that marred her father's features was the only flaw she saw to her looks--though Tawali was more dashing with his. No one would believe the stories that she had gotten it falling out of her very own basket when she was a filly.

Her mane was growing out to the length she wanted. It was a lighter shade than her mother's, but she liked it better long. And eventually it would be with the red tips barely brushing the ground. Her two-legger, Evening Night, was already enjoying her tail by putting in braids with feathers and beads. In general, she was actually proud of her appearance.

"Perhaps a few accessories to accent," she mused to herself out loud. She would finally have feathers like her dad.

User Image Up above there was already someone wearing the herd feathers proudly. It didn't matter that he wasn't with the herd anymore, but the colors seemed to stand out brilliantly against his natural pelt. It had been awhile since this Wind had graced these lands with his presence.

He flew lower to the trees watching for the river opening. It was then that he saw a pale Soquili standing near the very banks he was planning to land. If it wasn't his old rival home with the Misses and their rats.

"I see you're still disgracing the line," he said as he came in for a landing. He trotted several feet ahead before folding his wings. As he turned around, he noticed that this pale Soquili had no wings and was in fact a mare. "Ah. My mistake. You're one of Ever and Tawali's brood, aren't you?"

She turned away from her reflection and watched the painted Wind glide in for a perfect landing (though on the showy side). He had the same feathers as her father. Wasn't she just thinking about that earlier? She offered a gracious smile even though her body quaked in fear of this stranger.

"Greetings Wind Rider." She tilted her head to the side in puzzlement. How could he have known about her family? And for that matter, how could he know about her when she had only arrived out of the basket many moons ago? "Should I know you?"

He couldn't help but grin at the thought that this young mare didn't register that he was the long talked about rival. He bowed low to the grounded before him, putting out his best hoof. "Wild Wind at your service." He knew that his name would be the piece that completed the puzzle.

"So you're all grown up now. My my. You do look mostly like Tawali, but you live with Ever most of the time, don't you," he said matter-of-fact. "Your lack of wings is probably what decided the choice. You weren't blessed to fly with your father and so were dumped on your soft-hearted mother."

Realization dawned on her face slowly as she rolled his slight accent and name in her mind. So this was the stallion her father didn't like, the one that her mother blamed the pain in Tawali's past. And how did he know she stuck with her mother?

But was she really left behind with Ever because she couldn't fly like her sister and father? She frowned in thought while she stared at the ground under her hooves.
"That wasn't why I was left with mom," she said with no confidence.

He lowered his head to watch her face even more closely. She seemed confused and uncertain about what she'd been told. He took another step closer, giving her as sincere of a look as he could muster. "You're not sure about that. Not really."

He lifted his head up proudly, the beads clicking musically together. "It's a shame that your father would take more pride in his offspring that actually had proof of his lineage. It's better if you hide yourself so you don't disgrace your family further."

Vidia lifted her head up to glare daggers at this Wind. Eyes very similar to her father's were brimming with tears in her frustration and hurt feelings. She knew her father couldn't possibly think like Wild Wind, but they came from the same herd. 'Suli would have known better, but her sister was with her father more. Maybe wings did make a difference?

"Father isn't like that. He's not like you. He loves my mother even though she can't fly. There's other ways to fly."

He snorted loudly with a roll of his bicolored eyes. He knew he had her second guessing everything. She still had the mind of a filly in a full grown body that he normally would have appraised, if it didn't remind him of his rival. He took another few steps closer to position him enough to be looking down his nose at her.

"Running doesn't even come close to the true feel of the wind beneath your wings. I'm sure you've dreamed of flying high in the sky like your father."

She merely stared at him. She was unable to think of any form of a retort, anything that could be substance enough to keep her world from shattering before her eyes. She had envied her sister secretly for her wings, for her being able to be close with their father. Her idol. Why was the way of the world so unfair?

She didn't realize that tears were welling up in her eyes as the defiance slowly faded. He just couldn't be correct. His ideals were something her father had been against before her birth. But did all of her father's old herd mates share the same sentiments? She shook her head, her mane billowing out further around her along side the sparkle from her tears. It wasn't true!

And she fell right into his hooves. She was broken and so was her happy little world. He didn't feel any remorse for ruining a horse's life, even if she was the offspring of a Wind. "You're an outcast to both horses and Winds," he said as he took a step away from her in mock disgust. "Your parents didn't even realize what they would bring into this world. Abominations that have no place. You aren't fit enough to lick the dirt off my hoof."

He offered a consoling smile as he stretched his wings out for his flight back to the mountains. The first domino was struck and she would crumple on her own with time. His eyes alighted at the thought that he could bring such unhappiness to easily to Tawali and Ever by ruining their daughters. "It would be best if you took yourself from this world."
