I was forced to minor in viola when I was in college, and let's say that I don't regret it at all.
Let me tell you that it's interesting practicing for an hour on viola, then switching to practice violin right away. Confuses my fingers in a funny way.

Oh! HECK yes! I'm not very good now but I do play the violin and orchestra viola music is easy cheese. The only thing in my way now is the clef, which I pretty much have mastered now. cool

i play viola and violin but i dont think playing one after the other is that difficult

I play the viola in orchestras and stuff - it's my first instrument andi play the fiddle (scottish folk music not classical).
Switching from viola to violin is confusing for the first ten seconds but then my fingers get used to it.
Does anyone else get viola/violin marks on their necks, 'cause I do and it sucks.

Violas rock out!! 9 years under the belt... my one and only. So, names? My viola is Victoria. She is gorgeous. As for the marks on the neck... not really, my shoulder rest is enormous and so my viola isn't even close to my neck. XP... I really should get a smaller one.
