My band has had at least the maximum of 5 in all the years I've played, and I've been playing for 7 years. I think that's horrible! crying There should be more flutes and definently guys who play flutes because a flute is not a sissy instrument. domokun

We always have a lot of flutes, but depending on the time of year, some play other instruments.

i learned to play in a private school, so there were only 2 in fourth grade, 3 in fifth grade, and i lost count in sixth. when i moved to the public school, there were 12, but now there are only 9. i have been playing for five years, and i still suck!!! stressed it makes me so mad!!! burning_eyes anyone else?

Theres only 3 in concert band
2 in symphonic and 6 in begin band but who knows how long they will stay

Last year we had roughly sixteen, now we've narrowed it down the big doggs, about thirteen, including oboe...well only wick includes oboe...so really only twelve, two of which play saxas..... sad they're attempting to steal the flutes!
and this flute *points at self* happens to lyke lyke a trombone playerrr. :]]!

There are 25 people in our band and 12 play flute. Our instrumentation is terrible, and quite a few of them can play saxophone and oboe. But they refuse to switch because they're ALL convinced they're amazing. It disgusts me.

we have 1 flute. and he's not all that great either. He's also thoroughly overpowered by the 12 trumpets, 9 percussionists, and 8 alto saxes

The whole band all together, we have 49 flutes.
There's Appx. 200 people in band.
Something like that.
