It was a very dim day, even for in the shade of the jungle. The den seemed to be getting quite crowded, though it was not much fuller than it had been when Janja was young. Only one adult more, but the young lioness couldn't help but see greater changes within it. Hayate and Jedi, and thus Janja herself, they were all so much bigger, so much more mature looking.. Nasibu and Kileji were getting much bigger right before her eyes, and Antigone was thriving. It was like nothing Janja ever really had known before, nothing she'd ever noticed, and it really amplified how much she missed her parents. She had a feeling part of it was due to guilt, though.
Perhaps everyone might consider going to at least see Kiji and Siku.
Thoughtfully, Janja had wandered away from the den in the direction they had come from, towards the edge of the jungle that lead off towards the Pridelands. She'd never really taken notice to just how close they were to the edge of the trees, to the path back the way they had come. It was an interesting discovery.

Not knowing her mother was a-wandering along the path, Nasibu crashed through the undergrowth from one side in full pounce, a few meters ahead. A blue-black thunderbolt, while unnoticable in comparison a bird fluttered up towards the canopy . She shook her head, got her bearings and stood with her tail tip twitching as she looked about her. Nas had lost sight of her prey but she laughed anyway. It had been a game-hunt anyway. The young juvenile had never been a cub to obsess over her hunting skills. Her ears flicked round towards Janja first, then her whole head, a smile on her face. Oh, you saw that huh?

Janja was lost in her thoughts, but not so lost that she didn't notice the bright juve fly through the trees and land not far ahead of her. There had been no indication that she was approaching someone on the hunt, as things were meant to be usually. The way her daughter held herself, the way she smiled when she looked over.. Janja was both proud and amused.
"My, my," she said, "What were you chasing after, Nasibu?"

"Just a pretty bird." She padded lightly towards her mother - she always had a spring in her step, this little lady - and rubbed her cheek against one of her forelegs. Her playhunting was instantly forgotton, along with the brilliantly coloured prey that had started cahttering away up in the trees. Safe from energetic youngsters, for now.
"What're you doing out here mama?"

"Oh, tsk tsk," Janja clicked her tongue jokingly, beaming at the practicing huntress, "Don't you tell Kileji you were doing that, he really likes watching the birds." She clearly could recall when she'd found Kileji out bird watching, though she doubted he would be terribly upset at his sister play-hunting for one. In the event she did catch it, it would be far to impressive to be upset over.
"I was just out for a walk," she answered, looking out past Nasibu and trying to judge how far they were from the edge, "Do you know how far we are from the desert, here?"

"Oh I won't hurt them. They sing pretty, fly too fast and don't look like they'd be good to eat." She explained, amused. Unless she grew wings of her own, she'd never catch one. And even if she did, the scared little thing would probably be let go after a few minutes of torment play. Softhearted but kittenish, that was Nas.
"Not far." Nasibu scampered off towards the blazing gold at the end of the shadowy green tunnel the jungle path made. She paused back by where she'd crashed down. Maybe five minutes good walking and you'd be out in the hot sun.
"Not far at all really."

"Of course," Janja agreed with Nasibu's little explanation about the birds and how harmless her playing would be, and she believed it- or, she believed that Nasibu would mean no harm, though accidents could happen.
Distracted from the thoughts of feathers and play, she was very impressed to hear how fast Nasibu replied with their distance from the desert. She was pleased that at least one of her cubs were not afraid to take a good look around them, not that she blamed or minded Kileji.
"It's good you know your way around," she complimented, "You haven't gone out into the desert, though, have you? Someone once told me there were some dangerous lions that live there, though we are perfectly safe here."

"Only a little. Just a few steps outside the shadows." Nasibu looked back with a smile, and a look on her face that was questioning - that was okay right? She was proud her mother seemed happy with her exploring but she vaguely had a notion that going into the desert was Bad. Had she been told at one point not to? Maybe she'd forgotton a lesson, somewhere in between Don't Eat The Colourful Frogs and Leave The Porcupine Alone.
"The sun's warmer out there, with no trees to block it even the teensiest bit...it's nice."

Janja's parenting was not as relaxed as her own parents' but certainly not so strict. Instead of imposing too many limits, her idea was to allow them to do as they wished (within reason) and to supply them with all the necessary information and guidance on aspects like how to stay safe, or what best to do if you got lost. So far, it had been working out very well for her. An extra lecture or two might have come in after the incident leading to Antigone was discovered, but overall she felt her cubs were smart enough to be safe.
"It's not easy being out there for too long, with fur as dark as ours," she commented, not at all sounding like she was upset with Nasibu, "Would you like to see what's out there, and beyond it, someday?"

"If everyone went or I knew you'd all be here when I get back. I'd like to, but I'd rather not get lost." It'd be horrible if she went away and saw all sorts of wonderful things but in return lost contact with her family. No matter how amazing it was, that'd be an unfair trade to her. She'd rather have both, ta, if she could. Visiting family she'd nevr met would seem odd to her (how can you not know family!) but would be a great. Family, family and sight seeing~
"It's like another world out in the desert, huh?" It looked alien at any rate...next to no undergrowth, no trees, and barely any green!

"I'll keep that in mind," Janja said mysteriously, winking at her daughter playfully. It was something she wanted to know, of course, with her thoughts wandering so often to how she'd left things with her parents. Surely they would love to meet their grandcubs, all three of them. Just as much as she expected the cubs would all just love to meet them! Her eyes wandered out to where she knew the desert was before looking back to Nasibu to answer the question.
"It is very different," she agreed, "Not a tree to be seen anywhere, nothing bright except the sun, and sand can be quite tiring to travel on for great distances. You'll see many different terrains, I would think, throughout your life."

"Maybe I will." So long as she knew where her family were so she could meet up with them again...yeah. Nasibu wouldn't mind that, traveling and roaming through different lands. See the word and all that jazz. Just so long as she didn't end up alone.
"Are all the different terrains as different as that" A paw was waved towards the sands. "And this" - and the paw was lowered with a slight stamp.

"I'm sure you will," Janja said confidently, willing to place her confidence where her daughter seemed reluctant. Knowing her own family, and even just her own plan to travel from the jungle to the pridelands again.. that was at least three quite different areas, and the 'in-betweens.'
"No," she answered brightly, thinking about a comparison between the jungle and the Pridelands, very different but not quite in the same way between the jungle and desert, "There are areas in between, of course, and then there would be lands lacking trees, like the desert.. but then with a lot of other green."

"I think I'll always like here best though. With the trees and the plants and the birds and even with those monkeys who throw stuff sometimes."
Yes, even with pesky creatures included, Nasibu was pretty sure the jungle was best. She was curious, it was true, but this was where she'd been born and it was all she'd really know. And she had such good memories here with her family...
Maybe after she'd seen the world (notalone) she'd come here to stay.

Janja laughed as Nasibu listed the reasons she liked the jungle best. She was very fond of all of those things herself, it was what made the jungle feel like home. They could travel all over Africa, but the jungle would always be where she grew up and where she ran to to raise her own family. The lioness took a look around them, and looked back to her daughter with a smile.
"I don't blame you," she said, "It's a lovely place to grow up."
