He came again as was his custom each evening to leave her dinner as the pups slept soundly huddled together. He did not like how cold it was in her den how faint mist seemed to hang in the air chilling everything. The difference this night in his string of visits was that he slipped in quietly to be with his family. He noticed his youngest was still weak and wondered at the unhealing wounds on his son. He smiled fondly down on his sporty little daughter at the way she sandwiched herself between her siblings to keep warm. Slowly his focus moved from his children to his mate.

He could not think of her in any way but as his mate, even if she hated him forever. He lowered his head and slunk closer to drop the meat infront of her as usual, except this time he sat down instead of retreating. "Shh...Don't wake them..." He murmured to her softly.

--- And, as was her custom every night since those monsters of his were born, Necrala shoved herself in the farthest corner of the den from the entrance, soft tail wrapped around her side and head on her paws, feigning sleep until that wolf had come and gone.

--- She didn't trust him in her den while she herself was asleep, and because of such paranoia Necrala had become partly-insomniatic, but it barely bothered her. The signs were hidden by her deplorable-colored coat, and she couldn't possibly be more irritable than she was. She was safe, that was all that mattered. Peering out behind her furry lashes as Musketeer came and deposited the meat as custom, the femme seemed to slightly stiffen, though made no sign to move or show she was awake. That was, until he lingered.

--- Silver auds flickered open and a snarl was growing in her throat at this senseless loitering, until he hushed her. Surprisingly, she complied.

Musketeer gazed down at Necrala and frowned, the cold was not being kind to her either. He noticed little things and how tired she seemed despite the way she lay there as if asleep. He shook his head softly and gently licked her muzzle before sitting straight and gazing at the pups. He slowly moved to lay down beside her trapping her against his warmth and the wall of the den.

He brushed his muzzle lightly closer to her ear and whispered softly. "I'm sorry..." It was all he could say without saying what he had already tried to a million times before. He did not want to fight with her, threaten her, or snap at her. He wanted her to understand that he loved her and wanted her safe. Still he realized he had not handled the situation with his usual finesse instead he had blundered things up and now Necrala seemed more distant then before. Still he looked at their pups and smiled softly his tail swaying lightly against hers, he was still happy to be with his family.

--- With a cold gaze towards the male Necrala watched him as he assessed her, turning her head away from his silver eyes and momentarily towards the huddle of tiny pups, attempting to look interested in them at all, at least for the moment.

--- The femme wrinkled her maw at his attempted affection, pushing a paw against his muzzle to push him away, eyes ticking over back to him in a cold stare. Why was he here? He'd given her meat, he'd obviously seen that his 'prized heirs' were still breathing, none of this staying was necessary.

--- But even despite these lovey-dovey gestures, she still feared him, though she wouldn't admit it. He'd had her beat, and especially in the close proximity of the den where he'd antagonized her last time. She instinctively attempted to move away when Musketeer lay down beside her, only to be nearly pinned against the wall. Ears flicked back, and Necrala gave him a scowl at his words. I'm sorry? After all that, he assumed it would be fine after a mere 'I'm sorry'.

--- "Sorry doesn't begin to describe it..." She growled, baring her teeth at him.

Musketeer let a wry muzzle twist at his muzzle as he looked at her bared teeth. "I know...but you never listen to me anyway. I won't waste my breath begging you for forgiveness I know you'll delight in never giving me." He gave her a gentle nuzzle despite the way he pushed at him with her paws and bared her fangs. It was worth a n**, her claws, to feel her close, to inhale her scent.

Slowly he turned his gaze to meet hers. "I came to explain to you, how it's going to be...for our family."

--- "Good, then we have common ground." She rumbled softly, attempting to stand and leave. But she was stuck against the male, whether she liked it or not. His mass against hers was no contest, and as she was pinned between the earth (which wouldn't move for anyone)on the other side, he needed to get out of her space. "Move." Necrala snapped softly, showing away his nuzzles and false affections with a cold indifference that was the usual her.

--- Somewhere behind them a pup whimpered in a pile, stirring in it's sleep and moving around.

--- Defiantly she stared back at the wolf, ears flat against her skull in both hesitation and anger. She remembered his regards for 'our family' last time, they were still clear to her now. "You have your pups, you're taking them and you're leaving. I know the situation."

Musketeer frowned as she tried to stand and slowly moved to let her stand or streach but kept his body blocking the den entrance, to keep the cold out, to keep her in. He gave his legs a light stretch and looked back at her, his ears flicked towards the whimpering of his pup and he moved his tail slowly round them to keep them warm. His gaze however remained on Necrala as he spoke softly.

"I'll take the pups to the pack, for their safety and well being, because this den is cold and lonely for them. I won't just leave you though...I understand you want nothing to do with the pack, but I won't abandon you." He inhaled and spoke steadily calm despite the way he knew she would react. "I'll bring the pups to visit with you, it's wrong to keep them from their parents. You can try to run away, but there is nowhere you can go that I won't find you to keep this family together even if you don't like it. I won't let you ruin it for them at least even if you want to ruin it for...us."

--- The femme watched him cautiously, quite miffed that he easily blocked her only way of escape. An ear twitched, Necrala shaking her pelt to disguise a nervous shiver as she pushed herself as far away inside the den as she could.

--- His pestilence thoroughly aggravated her. "Why?" She insisted with a low growl. "You have your children, you have your pack, you're fine. Allow the pink mutt to raise them, they're young enough they won't know the difference."

--- Of course, the pups were far older than that age, but she hadn't paid enough attention to know that. The only reason the still breathed were because of this insane wolf's threats against her. "For us? There never was any us, wolf. You need to get that through your head."

"There could have been...there was for at least a small time Necrala, if there hadn't been an us then those pups wouldn't be here." He huffed at her softly and frowned.

"As it is, their your children as much as mine and I won't let you abandon them. Alas isn't their mother and I'm quite sure they would realize that, they aren't stupid." He frowned at her and watched her reactions. "They love you, as their mother, you will at least attempt to give them the pleasure of having both their parents. If you are not willing to do it for love of them then I will simply force compliance, and I will be sorry to do so, but you refuse to see any kind of reason. A less even tempered male would have killed you I'm sure." He sighed and looked at her trying to make her understand he loved her enough to leave her where she wanted to be in this cold den alone. He tried to give her the space she wanted and he wouldn't force her to the pack.

In truth though Musketeer wouldn't let his pups feel the void he had, oh he had his brother, but he could summon no memory of his parents. All he could remember was the sudden cold one morning and the sound of a loud bang, the strange acid smell and then the fresh red wet snow. He had urged his brother up and they had never stopped running. He didn't want his children wondering where their mother was, never. He wouldn't let her tear up their tiny family for whatever her selfish reasons were, he was starting to think she was just stubborn.

--- "They shouldn't be here at all in the first place." She replied quickly, meaning every word of it. Ever since those pups came it'd been harder than it was with this wolf chasing her around. Lord knows they'd caused enough hassle for her, and now she was needed to suffer further for their sake? The sake of the accidentals?

--- "But as your children they may be blind." Necrala retorted with a snort, keeping her stiff posture. "They don't /love/ me, I provide them with food, and for not much longer, either. They are 'close' to me out of necessity, but soon enough I won't be needed. Leave me then."

--- His talk of threats had her shaken. "You won't force me into anything, wolf." She growled, narrowing her eyes to keep from showing their whites, sitting down to keep legs steady that threatened to shake.

--- "Even so, the 'less even tempered male' would have more sense in his decision." The femme growled defensively, at the moment having rather preferred the male worse tempered.

"Don't say such things Necrala..." He frowned and looked down at the pups glad they slept soundly. He looked back up at their mother and sighed. "You will care for them at least once a week, your their mother like it or not and I will not deprive them."

He shook off and sighed "I too should like to continue to visit you..." He muttered softly looking at her with pleading eyes. He no longer knew what to do or say to soften her or show her how much he loved her.

--- "Deprive them of my morbid company, the poor dears." She growled sarcastically, glaring towards Musketeer. Once the pups were gone the first thing that she would do would be to leave this den, possibly track over her old hunting trails or through the river to confuse him of her tracks. But she surely would not do as he said, she would be no mother to his pups.

Whatever angle he was hoping to pull at from the start of this conversation, whatever emotion he tried to perceive, whatever attempt to get on her good side had crashed and burned when he spoke of force compliance. She would be slave to no-one. Especially not a raping low-life like him.

--- Necrala raised her lips in a soft snarl, meeting his pitiful gaze. "As you've shown, no-one is ever allowed to get what they want or what 'they should like', wolf."

Musketeer held back a growl of frustration he could see her shield sliding up her effective barrier of cruelty. He frowned and looked down at his pups, perhaps it would be best to keep them safe in the pack. Would they miss Necrala? He gently nosed his children as they slept before looking back up to her. "I have never met a mother so unwilling to provide her own children with love...." He frowned his voice still soft determined not to wake his innocent children from their sleep.

"Nevertheless...they'll visit with you, the longer you make me track you down the longer they'll visit." He knew she would leave, and he knew he could find her. Musketeer had never failed with his sense of smell, he was astounded by it at times, the faintest scents were powerful to him. He had learned to track just about every creature that roamed the lands of Telk through snow, rain, and fresh grasses. He had never hunted down another wolf, but he would not let his mate go.

He couldn't help but still love her and admire her even though she treated him so cruel, at times he had an urge to be equally cruel to her, yet he never could go through. "You wanted me, but you wouldn't let yourself be happy..." He muttered softly. He knew that much to be true, Necrala had wanted him that night sick and cold and alone as she was, she had welcomed his comfort.

--- "They're not mine. No mutual consent went into their conception, I refuse to call any of those my own. Fur can lie, wolf." She replied, watching him as he nuzzled the three little leeches that snuggled against each other.

--- Once more, threats abounded. And once more she mentally winced, knowing that he would stick to them until he either dropped dead or actually found her. The latter she didn't plan on allowing, so tough news for him.

--- "The only thing 'I want you', is dead, wolf. And don't go into that crap again. It is lies, fabricated from your own sick mind that insists on tormenting me." She growled, voice reverberating around the den.

A soft sigh escaped him, she was difficult his lovely corpse colored femme. Why was he plagued so with thoughts of her? Wasn't it enough that he had his pups? Why couldn't he be content to take them and leave her...why did he still love her despite the hurtful things she said? Did she really believe he had forced himself on her?

He stood weary simply from talking to her, she had two amazing effects on him and he was certain the love that welled up for her would not be welcomed. He stood there staring at her a long moment, he knew no words to soften her. "Our pups are well enough, in a few days time perhaps they will be ready to join the pack...I will bring you extra meat in the morning...start them on it."
