"See, now was that so bad?" Gwen asked her little girl as they entered the ice cream parlor. Polly's tail was bandaged up and she was not a happy baby. Her nose twitched as she remembered the smell of the hospital and how people had poked and prodded her for what seemed like forever.
"I no like kitty," she repeated, pouting now, because the cat hadn't gotten poked and prodded like she had. She would have to get revenge, oh yes. She would definitely have to get revenge.
Her eyes widened as she saw the other side of the shop. Limp looking animals hung from metal poles, and little kids much like her grabbed them and shoved white stuff up their bums. She blinked, wondering what that was all about.
"You want to make a toy, Polly?" Gwen asked, putting her down so she could walk. "You have to pick out what type!"

Whenever Rye took Sophia out it was an adventure, whether the little girl wanted one or not. They rarely went to the same place twice, because Rye was constantly seeking out new enjoyments and ways to pass the time. Had Sophia been older she might haven wondered how in the world her mother managed to make any money.
Today they were out for icecream. Pretty tame right? Sophie was glad. She had licked down her cone of mint chocolate slowly, trying her best not to get it on her face. When she failed, which was rather often, she immediately had to take a napkin and try to whip it away. When she was eating the bottom of the cone she let her gaze stray for a moment. It wandered over to the other part of the icecream shop. She hadn't noticed it before, becauset here was a rather big wall that, for someone of her age, seemed to go on forever. But now she peeked slightly around the corner and saw what must have been a bajillion stuffed toys! Or at least seemed to be in her young view.
She pointed at it immediately without thinking, "Momma, look!" She immediately turned scarlet as her mother bent down curiosly and brightened at the sight.
"Oohhh, look Sophie! You can make your own stuffed animal!" Rye chimed.

Gwen had taken her little girl straight to the toy making section, figuring that it would be best to do it before her little girl ate something that was likely to make her sticky all over. Now Polly was looking over the various empty animals with a thoughtful look.
"Oh, look, a kitty!" Gwen said, figuring if she had a stuffed toy cat she might be more forgiving to Bessy.
"No!" Polly said, jerking back and glowering dangerously at the poor, defenseless creature. "I no like kitty."
Somehow she had realized that she was going to keep what animal she stuffed white stuff into, and she didn't want to keep a kitty!

The curly haired woman quickly dragged her charge over to the other side of the shop. When they reached the part where you could pick your animal she stopped, bending down again to stand at the little girl's level. Sophie was still a bit embaressed at having pointed out the place; you shouldn't always ask for the things you want. But amid her flustered cheeks rose a smile, for she really had been interested in the stuffed animals. They were so soft and cuddly and cute...
"Go ahead and pick one Sophie! Then we can put in the soft stuffing," Rye encouraged.
Sophie stood where she was, rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet thoughtfully. Which one...which one...it was so hard to choose! Look, there was a cute puppy...and there was a unicorn! But she stopped when she saw a curly, white haired teady bear. Ohhhh~! She wanted that one! She looked back at her mother, who had actually wandered off for a moment to throw away her plastic bowl, so instead she had to get it herself. But there was a lady and a firey haired girl over there...
Tentitively she moved over there, mumbling softly whens he drew near, "'cuse me, pwease."

Polly looked up first, then broke into a broad grin. "Hello!" she said. "I Polly," she added, shoving her thumb at her chest. She caught on quickly, it seemed.
"Are you sure you don't want a kitty?" Gwen asked, picking up a gray cat that looked SO much like Bessy that she wanted it herself.
"No kitty!" Polly said sharply. "I no like kitty!"

Well! That was sudden. Sophie blicked back her surprise and replied politely, holding her hand in front of her, "Hello...I'm Sophia." She paused again, looking doefully at the bright colored girl named Polly. She was standing right in front of where she got the unstuffed bear. "Umm...'cuse me, I'm trying ta get that one." She pointed at the display bear that sat on top of the container that kept the unstuffed ones and then quickly dropped her finger as if it were hot. She had forgotten: it was rude to point. "Sowwy."

"What for?" Polly asked blankly before picking the bear up and handing it over. "Is what you want, no?"
"It's fine, um, Sophia," Gwen said with a smile. "Maybe you can help Polly pick out one she wants, too?" She was so pretty! What a sweet, soft spoken little girl, as well.
"I wannnnt...." Polly looked around, searching for the perfect animal thing.

What for? What did...she want the bear for? "I...wanted to make a bear," she murmured uncertainly. She took the unstuffed bear from the other girl and bobbed her head mutteringa soft, "Thank you." Manners were key, after all. She was about to hurry back and find her very distracted mother when the other adult told her to help...Polly? She hesitated, but realized she couldn't say no to an adult. They knew everything, after all.
"Um..." She looked from the shelves and Polly and then back, "...ah...bunnies are cute." They had two different bunny stuffed animals you could make. Did the other girl like bunnies? "Or...puppies..."

((Artistic license cuz Build-a-bear sucks and doesn't have gators))
"Noooo..." Polly said, still going. "I want... that!" she decided, pointing at a green gator toy.
"Polly, don't you think--" Gwen started out.
"I want that!" Polly repeated, grabbing the toy. "Now I fill?"

Sophie opened her mouth, her brows furrowing in confusion, "But that's scary..." She quickly shut it, clicking her teeth together. It wasn't polite to say it. Even if it was true. Why would she want a scary stuffed animal? It had lots of teeth. Little did she know that her bear, in real life, had giant teeth as well.
"Sowwy," she murmured, before quickly pointing towards the gigantic stuffing container, "Stuffing over there." She walked over to it and stepped up carefully onto a stool so she could reach.

Polly blinked, looking at the gator for a long moment before grinning like an idiot. "Grrr! Grrr!" she said, chasing after the other girl to the cotton stuffing section. She liked that it was scary! Chris was scary, and he was COOL!
Of course she had no idea that gators didn't growl like dogs. But oh well.

"EEeep!" Sophie squeaked, ducking behind the stuffing container. She didn't like that other stuffed animal! It had TEETH. Stuffed animals weren't supposed to have teeth! She held her unstuffed bear in front of her face, as if it would protect her from the monster in the making, "N-noooo, st-t-top! It's not....it's not nice!" You weren't supposed to scare other people. Right? Right?

Polly blinked, then looked at the gator. "Bad toy," she told him, wagging a finger at it. "Now I gonna stuff you with white stuff!" she said before looking at Sophie expectantly. "How we do this?"

Sophie peeked out slowly from behind her bear's curls and let out a breath. Good, she had stopped. "U-Um..." she looked hesitantly at the container before her. It was huge, but low enough so that kids like her and Polly could reach in and get the white stuff. But how did they get it into their animals...?
It was one of those things you stumble upon by luck. By having her bear, well, in her face she discovered that there was a slit in the back that you could stick your hand in. "Oh...like this," she murmured, taking a bit of the stuffing and trying to put it in the slit. It went in just fine.

"Okay!" Polly said as she grabbed some cotton and started stuffing the gator. "He gonna be neat!" she said cheerfully, now shoving handfuls of cotton into the toy. "You look better fat," she told him, taking a moment to look at his face.
"What you name your bear?" she asked as she worked.
