so I'm sure you'll hate this smile

Icono gives awesome critique so I can assume the rest of you know what your saying, too.

Mirenes finished peice.

The linearts off.
I already know what and how to go about fixing it for my next peice so you dont have to address that.
I keep getting hell that the anatomy is s**t.
So, whatever you can do (details though please!) to help me with my next peice let me know.
I never draw horses so I'm sure there is plenty of s**t to say about the chest of it and whatever.
AND I know it looks like her tail is growing out of the crack of her a**.

ps-Does this look like anime b/c that's what I am trying to avoid.

Are you sure you want critique on finished gift art? Keep in mind that critiques may negatively influence the perception the giftee has of the piece, if they have access to view those criticisms (which mirenes does).

That may be less relevant because mirenes is not an uneducated appreciator of art, but a participant in art. Those who already have informed opinions on what they like and do not like may not be swayed by criticisms.

Well, I posted this in PP and everyone s**t all over it.
It really urked me b/c everyone that was shitting, couldn't draw the freckles on a rag-doll.
And even though I hate hearing it,
I hear it anyways and all the critque I get from one peice I bring over to the next and I more so learn that way.
But if you like it (which I'm sure you don't wink )
then by all means PLEASE let me know.
Nothing is better than a good critque with a compliment.

As for mirene,
I hope peoples opinons wouldn't sway hers.
She's a big, stubborn girl so I think she'll keep steady with how she feels about it.

um there is a lot wrong with it but I think the most prevailent thing to me is that the horse legs look like human legs
with the thigh and calf and everything
It makes me feel like you have never ever actually looked at a real horse.
If you're going to draw something you dont know how to draw, it's helpful to look at references. not only of maybe pictures of horses in similar poses, but at horse skeletons and muscles to get a feel of why something looks and moves like it does. Understanding why and how things work usually help with knowing how they look.

horse legs are weird, and I have no experience with drawing them
but as you can see in the picture I just posted they work nothing like human legs.

it actually sort of astounds me at how bad you've got it wrong.

This picture does look like anime to me. I think it may be the facial shape and features and how they are placed on the face that contributes to this. the face is kind of mushy and has no depth. It looks simply like a disc attached to the head. The facial features are really floating around on this flat disc. I suggest you look more at real faces and think about the skull and how the features wrap when drawing them.

I also suggest looking at a human skeleton, your ribcage and pelvis seem really off.

I don't think I've ever drawn a horse in my life.
And I didnt take the time to use a picture as a reference for when I did do it.
And when I mentioned that I didn't want it too look like anime (I really really dont) I forgot to mention that I don't really want it to look like realism either.
I like cartoons.
I like the cartoon look.

But I really appreciate the face crit.
That's ******** awesome and I will use that for my next peice for sure.

knowing more about the face wont prevent it from looking how you want it to.
your face looks like anime because it is unstructured and uses anime construction which is very little construction based in actual anatomy.
thinking more about realistic facial proportions isnt going to magically transform your art into "realism". In fact the only thing it will do is make your art look better because you know what you're doing. Also, when you know and understand real anatomy you are able to manipulate it more effectively.

You're reminding me just how much I want to start with basic art classes now.
I'm going to do some cheap ones online to brush up on my basics.
I think, scratch that, I KNOW I have the potential to create amazing peices of work, I just have a loooooooooooooooong road ahead of me.
Like you said,
about understanding what goes where,
and how things are basically shaped and placed,
will help me so much.

Lazy re-imagining.

You don't seem to understand that studying anatomy doesn't mean drawing realism. You may notice upon looking around that 99% of us would recommend getting a good look at the human (or equine, in this case) body in order to improve at drawing, but shockingly, 99% of us do not draw realism.

Gasp.

Coming to understand the look of the human body just means having a half-assed idea of what the ******** it is you're trying to draw.

A simple Google search of "horse musculature" gave me this gem - seriously, it took less than 30 seconds.

If you want to get positive audience response on your work, be willing to put some effort into learning. Drawing isn't all asspats and it sure as hell isn't easy, as I'm sure you are aware.

No, I like totally get it.
I look up refrences all the time and I already made it clear that I'm excited to start taking classes for LEARNING about BASIC s**t that I don't know.
I am all about learning.
I don't know what gave you any impression otherwise other then when I said I didn't use a reference for the horse.

On another note thanks for COMPLETELY SERVING ME gonk
I see now where I ******** up on the horses anatomy and I sort of feel like doing another centaur just for shits and grins to see if it turns out any better.
Practice practice practice!

I don't know what re-imagining is.
Did you scribble over what I drew and morph into how it "should" be?
Or did you seriously just tablet that in a matter of seconds.

I did a blank layer on top of yours and started doodling over the torso, but if you go in and set that on top of the original drawing, the only thing that really sort of lines up is the shoulders - oh, and the hair in most parts, because you did well on the hair.

The rest of it is all different.

well

think of it as re-constructing the figure and s**t on the paper

instead of just COPYING what you see....you should strive to REBUILD/RECREATE it on the sheet of paper...

that way...the end result should be more solid'n'stable
