  Qin gently carried the basket in his mouth. It was very heavy, for this basket did not hold treats or candy. It held something far more precious, his child. Due to the queer nature of twoleggers, his indian twolegger had received a basket, and Hsien's indian twolegger had received a basket. He was growing tired, it was hard work carrying a foal. He set the basket down and hid it under some branches and rocks, then went off to a nearby river.

Scarlet was frolecking in a near by snow bank when she heard something. Her head popped up and she gasped at the sight she beheld. A basket! Her ears flew forward and she bounded through the snow, trying to get over to it. Again, she tripped over herself and fell forward towards the basket. She tried to hard to avoid hitting it and succeeded but her head paid a heafty price. She saw doble for a second before she gasped. "Basket! Pretty...shiney BASKET! I hereby dub thee Martin and Martin thou shalt be forevermore!"
She sniffed it and bounced around it. "Oh joy! Oh bliss! A baby!" she stopped a looked around. She saw no one. This one must have been abandoned like she was. "You poor thing! You must be cold." She dragged the basket, which was hard due to her tiny structer, over into the sun and curled up around it. "I'll take care of you Martin!"

Qin was very perterbed to see that the river had been frozen over. He should have expected that, always with the first winter frost came the harsh biting wind that froze everything it touched. Gingerly, he proded the iced over river with a hoof. It sent tingles down his spine from the cold. He lifted up the hoof and smashed it down on the river.
A crack emerged, then another and another. The ice broke apart and drifted down stream. Qin smiled, and dipped his nose into the icy water. He winced as it numbed his nose, but drank greedily from the cold river. It was crisp and fresh.
Once he had slaked his thirst, he trotted back to where he left the basket. Removing the leaves and branches, he found,
a rock. He laughed at himself, and figured it must have been the wrong spot. He walked over to where he was sure he had hidden the basket, and moved away debris. He found,
another rock.

Scarlet nuzzled Martin affectionatly and said, "I like you Martin, I don't even know you and I like you. You can be my friend. I can't wait until you hatch. You're mommy or daddy must have been crazy to abandon you like that! You're basket is so pretty, so you must be down right stunning!" She laught, still curling her tiny frame around the basket. "I wish I could make you warmer, but I didn't think to bring a blanket and my two legger is very far away. In the mountains, actually. she's like you. She being Nenharma. So would Saki... Vallor I'm a little iffy on."
She grinned lop sidedly and nuzzled the basket again. "I love you Martin!"

If Qin hadn't been white, all the color would have drained from his face by now. His eyes were wide, and strained huffing noises were comming from his throat. He had lost the basket. He had lost his child. Hsien was going to kill him. The foal would come out, and it wouldn't know where it was. It...it would die from cold and hunger.
He sagged to the ground, then a thought struck him. Baskets don't move on their own. He jumped up, positively mad. Someone had taken his child. His eyes blazed and he stomped the ground, furious. "Who ever took my child is so dead." He bared his teeth and began to search.

Scarlet was drapped over the basket to keep it warm. she continued to whisper to the basket about how much she loved it and how pretty it was. Her ears perked at the sound on an on ciming stallion when she noticed how much like Martin he looked. So she just lifted her head and she grinned at the stallion coming over. "Are you this babies papa? Martin was all alone, so I took him to a sunny place to be warm and kept him company. He's pretty." She nuzzled the basket again and grinned at the stallion.
"You know, you really shouldn't leave baskets alone, not even for a second. Someone who meant harm on them like a kalona could get them or they could get cold, or hatch without you knowing and then run away and then you'd be sorry!" She nuzzled the basket again. "I took good care of Martin for you sir! Golly, he's pretty!"

Qin raised his head up and took a long breath. Then looking around he saw an opening into a meadow. Heading though it he saw a small little form wrapped around his basket! Huffing angrily he ran over to it as fast as he could. Before he could say anything the little usdia started chattering. His eyes opened wide and his jaw dropped as this tiny little thing started lecturing him.
"W-wha-what??? I was thirsty, and its name isn't Martin! Who would name a child Martin?" He reached forward and effortlessly nosed the little creature off his basket. He moved to grab it.

Scarlet fell onto her back and glared at the stallion. "Why are you stallions always so mean to me!" She scrambled onto her feet and barked at him a few times before she took a deep breath. "Obviously, I would name a child Martin. It's a cute name. It's not like the foals name was written on the basket! It was all alone what was I supposed to think! I couldn't see you and I wasn't going to leave the basket to fend for it's self, that's stupid!"
She huffed at him threw herself over the basket. "You left it! Finders Keepers, he's my pretty Martin now! If you;re going to be mean to me who's to say you won't be mean to him? I think you need to be a little more tolerant." She glared at him again and nuzzled the basket. "He's soooo pretty!

Qin sighed, getting very exasperated with this little scrap of a usdia. He tossed his head and said impatiently, "I'm not being mean. I'm being protective." He thought about the Martin comment. Martin was a nice name...he shook his head. This little usdia was not going to name his firstborn child Martin. He huffed and said, "Well I do not know if my child is a colt or a filly! I'm not going to name it Martin if its a filly!" He rolled his eyes, then gently grabbed the basket with his teeth and started to tug it from under this little pesky usdia.

Scarlet snarled and bit Qin's leg. "You're being mean to me! You yelled at me and pushed me off the basket and now you're grabbing! That's very rude of you!" She huffed and flipped her mane. "And Matin is a perfectly fine filly name! Don't be sexist! Now get away from Martin! I won't leave him in the middle of winter all by his lonesome!" She nuzled the basket again and cooed at it. "You are my Martin and my Martin you shall be forever more!"

Qin stared bug eyed at the little usdia, his ears laid back. He curled his lip and snarled. He walked forward, angrily plucked the little usdia off his basket, and with a lot of effort carried her by the scruff of the neck away from his basket. He set her on the ground, stood between her and his basket, and said angrily, "Here you! If you had left your basket and I came and sat on it, you would want it back, right!? You wouldn't want someone keeping your firstborn child, right!!!???" He huffed angrily into the air, his breath steaming. He glowered angrily at the little usdia.

"I wouldn't have been irresponcible and left him in the snow! I'd never ever take my eyes off my basket, even if it was my first born! I'd be too scared it would hatch and then the foal would come out and not see thier mommy and ran away, not knowing what to do. Then they'll live thier life making all my mistakes, and Iw ouldn't have that! Never ever would I ever let my basket alone!" She dashed between Qin's legs and blew a raspberry at him, curling up around the basket. "No go away or I'll call my two legger, she's a warrior!"

Qin raised one eyebrow and smirked. He knocked the usdia off the basket, a little harder than before, and stood over her. He said, "Don't make me get its mother." He knew Hsien would be plenty mad at this little usdia, and added in, "She fights Kalona's as a past time and has the temper of one." Turning around, he picked up the basket and held it up high, out of the usdia's reach.

As Scarlet was kocked off she hit her head realitivly hard. On her side she looked up at the stallion and sniffed. She was, after all, just a foal at heart, therefore since she had just hit her head it hurt her. A lot. She scrambled to her feet and skittered into the brush, away from the nasty stallion and went to find her two legger Nenharma.
Now, Nenharma was by the river sharpening her weapons when the little Usdia came to her side. She saw tears in her eyes and anger flared in her stomach. "Oh, my poor baby, who as done this to you?" She clared a place for the pony sit sit with her. While she didn't understand what was being said to her she listened to the frantic whinnies of Scarlet and brushes out her mane.

Qin huffed in triumph, but felt a little bad as the little usdia ran off crying. He felt guilty, but he had his basket back. Still though, he had made her cry...
Snorting angrily at himself, and not believeing that he was actually doing this, he picked up the basket and followed the little usdia to the river. He paled a little when she started talking to the weapon holding twolegger, but he continued on.
Stopping next to the little usdia, he set the basket gently on the river shore. He rolled his eyes at himself and said with a sigh, "Look, I'm sorry I pushed you over, and once the foal comes out of the basket..." He sighed again and continued, "You can foal-sit it. And..."
He couldn't believe he was actually doing this, "if its a colt, you can name it Martin, and if its a filly, you can name it Marty." Qin figured it was better than letting this little usdia name a filly Martin. Though he knew Hsien would kill him if she knew what he had just done.
