I've been on this guild for a long time, and one thing that I have noticed is that sports fans love to make predictions. Some predictions are reasonable, others are wild, and some turn out to be accurate, while others turn out to be false. Nevertheless, predictions are extremely popular topics for this guild.

Therefore, I made this thread to accommodate all of the fans who love to make predictions. Here you can make predictions related to ANY sport, whether the predictions concern teams, players, games, major events, or other subjects. You can predict Barry Bonds' future; you can predict who will win the Super Bowl in the year 2016! You can predict how many points Kobe Bryant will score in his next game; you can predict how Sidney Crosby will do in the NHL All Star game. The bottom line is, feel free to predict anything relating to any sport.

Just remember, DO NOT make your predictions fictional. For example, do not say: "Stanley Finkleberry will join the major leagues in the year 2020 and hit 700 home runs in one season." No! Keep your predictions creative but realistic, and support them with evidence or arguments!

Hopefully this thread will not become too disorganized due to its broad range of topics. If it gets a little out of control, I will make separate prediction threads for each sport. For now, though, let us start with this one.

So start your engines!

I think that the Tampa Bay Ray will be on top of the AL East in the next couple of years. They a got a great young team that has alot of talent. They already got a couple of veteran players that could help them out in Cliff Floyd and Troy Percival.

The Cubs will win their first world series in the year of 2015. How I know? Because in the amazing move Back to the Future (Part II) they had the Cubs winning the World series for the first time since 1909 in 2015.

I'm going to predict that the 49ers will make the playoffs in 9-11 years

I don't see them winning it in our life time. XD

I think the Redsox are going to win the World Series this season. They still got the same great team that won it last season. Matsuzaka should improve and also Okajima.

I know it's just a prediction but I doubt the Pats will score less then 20. Through out the whole season no one has held them under 20.

Well, I was really just going will Plaxico Burress' prediction that he made earlier this week. Although I do think this game will be a lot less scoring than the week 17 matchup. Both teams will be in the mid to low twentys at the most I think.

Smellin' a upset of sorts here, i'll say....

Giants--38
Patriots-30

For baseball, I predict that the Rays, the Reds, and the Royals will soon be major contenders. I predict that the Rays will surprise everyone this coming season, but they will not be serious contenders until the 2009 season. The same thing for the Reds: they will surprise in 2008 but seriously contend in 2009. Both the Rays and Reds have great prospects like Evan Longoria, Jay Bruce and Joey Votto, not to mention other youngsters like Carl Crawford, B.J. Upton, Brandon Phillips, and Edwin Encarnacion. Give those players time to grow, and soon these two teams will be dangerous. The Royals are in a similar situation: this season they will definitely play better, but I don't know if they will be major contenders by 2009 (the Tigers will still be dominant since many of their star players will still be around). I think in 2010 they will seriously contend, and that's probably the latest time. So in the next few seasons, beware of some drastic changes in standings.

I doesn't look like neither team is going to get 20 points.

doc. hyphae's Marathon Prediction for the 2008 MLB Season

Here is my grand prediction for the outcome of the 2008 MLB season. Following my prediction of the final standings is a series of posts analyzing each division and breaking down each team. The standings look like this:

National League

NL West

1. LA Dodgers (as much as I hate to admit it, but their team looks great)
2. Arizona D-Backs
3. Colorado Rockies
4. San Diego Padres
5. San Francisco Giants

NL Central

1. Chicago Cubs
2. Milwaukee Brewers
3. Cincinnati Reds
4. Houston Astros
5. St. Louis Cardinals
6. Pittsburgh Pirates

NL East

1. New York Mets
2. Philadelphia Phillies
3. Atlanta Braves
4. Washington Nationals
5. Florida Marlins

American League

AL West

1. LA Angels
2. Seattle Mariners
3. Oakland A's
4. Texas Rangers

AL Central

1. Detroit Tigers
2. Cleveland Indians
3. Chicago White Sox
4. Kansas City Royals
5. Minnesota Twins

AL East

1. Boston Red Sox
2. New York Yankees
3. Toronto Blue Jays
4. Tampa Bay Rays
5. Baltimore Orioles

NL Wild Card: D-Backs or Phillies
AL Wild Card: Indians or Yankees

However, the standings are a bit deceiving.

In the NL West, it will be an extremely close race: in truth, any of the top four teams could lead the division, and I believe that the Giants will surprise critics. The only reason they might finish last is because the other four teams look so good, and I wouldn't be surprised if each of those four won 90 games apiece.
