((DO NOT POST HERE! USE THE OTHER THREAD FOR THAT!))

Prologue:

Six months ago an alien parasite known as the SEED attacked a small planetary star system, the Gurhal System. The first wave of attacks caught everyone by surprise, even the AMF and GUARDIANS who were tasked with security during the Celebration of the 100 years of peace between the four races.

During the SEED invasion one GUARDIAN recruit along with his friends would turn the tides on the SEED, winning the battle for all of Gurhal.

Two months later most of Gurhal seem to be returning to normal with the GUARDIANS taking on mission to clean up areas that still have SEED infected wildlife. Unknown to the population, someone was already scheming a plot to break the peace once again, starting with the attempted assassination of the President of the GUARDIANS, Obel Dallgun at the hands of Ethan Waber. Once again the GUARDIANS were called in to deal with this situation, to hunt down one of their fellow members and hero.

Not all is what it seemed, however as Ethan's friends believed he would never try such a thing, all except one young beast girl, Laia Martinez. She was convinced that Ethan was an attempted murderer and would not stop until he was brought to justice. Unfortunately the GUARDIANS were beginning to fall short on man power after realizing that there were still far too many SEED infected areas that needed attention.

Enter VICE, a cool headed young newman woman who had just received her instructors license. She too took part in the offensive against the SEED though she acted as a lone HUNTER and showed no fear or hesitation to kill. For that she was tasked, rather, ordered to form a team of young recruits so that she could make them much like her. And so, another chapter in this young woman's life begins...one that will change her life...

Chapter 1

Act 1

Floating above the planet Parum's atmosphere was the home to many GUARDIANS and also where most of the human population resided. Things were going as usual and busy as ever. All but one place, the GUARDIANS HQ on the fifth floor of Clyez City.

Mina and the other staff greeted everyone as usual but with a slight discomfort as a woman's voice could be heard shouting from the above floors. On that floor already a small group of GUARDIANS had gathered outside the door and were listening in on the commotion from within President Dallgun's chamber.

"What do you mean you are giving me an instructor's license?!", a young female newman shouted, slamming her hands onto the desk, "I work alone and I don't need nor have I ever needed help from anyone!". The president was quiet and continued to listen to the newman with patience, his elbows on the desk and hands to his chin with fingers interlaced with each other. "Having another or three more with me will only slow me down when I am out on a mission. Not to mention they'll be rookies.", she stepped back and turned her back to the President. "Sorry Mr. President but you'll have to find someone else to babysit rookies."

President Dallgun sighed and sat back in his chair, he took a deep breath then began to speak, "I am well aware that you work alone and that is why you have managed to hone in your skills. Which is why I am asking you to train a group of new recruits, so that we can have more GUARDIANS like you.", the newman showed no interest, Dallgun continued, "The SEED contamination has been increasing steadily in several areas through out the Gurhal System. All GUARDIANS branches in each planet are constantly sending out their GUARDIANS each and every day.", Dallgun paused as the newman turned slightly to look at him, "Yeah so? Why not send in the AMF, they're also here to help out aren't they?", she said.

"They are. The AMF is already busy dealing with the recently discovered HIVE's.", the newman turned around to face Dallgun, "I thought that was taken care of half a year ago? Or are you telling me there was more than one?". President Dallgun stood up from his desk and walked up to a holoprojection of a video playback of an attack on the HIVE. "We're still looking into why suddenly there are HIVE's everywhere.", he looked at the newman with a serious expression, wrinkles forming on his forehead, "Vice, we are losing too many GUARDIANS because they lack experience in dealing with this situation. Pretty soon we might not have the AMF to provide back up when we need it."

Vice crossed her arms, ". . .", "Just one month. That's all I'll ask from you as an instructor. After that you will be back to being a Hunter.", Dallgun narrowed his eyes hoping this would work. Vice closed her eyes, inhaled and exhaled, "Just one month huh. . .?", Dallgun nodded, "Alright I'll do it.", Vice quickly extended her hand and pointed at Dallgun before he could smile, "But under one condition! I get to choose the recruits myself. I don't want to be stuck with slackers that think joining the GUARDIANS is a way to get famous and go around gloating about it to women in hopes of getting a piece of a**." President Dallgun chuckled but nodded in agreement with Vice's condition, "Very well. I'll have Mina pick out a dozen new recruits and send you the list."

And with that, Vice temporarily became an instructor for one month. President Dallgun has high hopes that this legendary Hunter can train even a small group into GUARDIANS like her.

Act 2

Over the horizon of the planet Parum the sun shined brightly, emerging from its slumber. Shifts were ending while some were starting, coffee makers were brewing and early deliveries were being made throughout the GUARDIANS Colony. For one particular newman woman, it was not a day she was looking forward to regardless of agreeing to it. Her partner machine went about doing her usual routine in the mornings when she noticed that Vice was not getting up. "Vice! Wake up, you are going to be late for your meeting with the new recruits!", she said walking up to Vice and poking her on the shoulder. Vice groaned, moaned and tossed around, swinging her arms barely missing her partner machine. Her partner machine grumbled lightly, "You leave me no choice...", she accessed the radio and tuned into a rock station then raised the volume just as a song was starting. The wailing guitar sound boomed out of the speakers and filled the room. "Gah!", Vice sat up covering her ears and tumbled over as she was trying to get out of bed, "Ok! Ok! I'm awake!", she yelled at her partner machine, "Turn it off already!". Her partner machine grinned then turned off the radio, "Hurry or you'll be late.". Vice waved as she made her way to the bathroom to shower.

Meanwhile at the GUARDIANS HQ, a lone female CAST with a sleek and streamlined figure and parts made her way past people, not bothering to greet. She made her way up to Mina, the receptionist and stated her reason for being there, "I am here for re-assignment to the GUARDIANS as a recruit.", her words sharp as a blade that made Mina wince upon taking the female CAST's ID and registering it into the database. "I would like to know where do I go next.", the female CAST said, her eyes staring dead straight at Mina that made her feel very uneasy. "U-uh...N-Nikita is it...?", Mina asked nervously, Nikita replied immediately, "Yes", "T-There are orders from the president. You've been selected to be part of a special team that will b--Ow!". Mina winced and turned to her left to see one of her friends elbowing her repeatedly and whispered to Mina, "Hey...you're not supposed to disclose all of that!". Surprised at her mistake, she bowed and apologized to Nikita, "S-Sorry! You were not meant to hear that. Please have a seat until the rest have arrived."

Nikita nodded and as told, went and sat down on a bench and waited. Over time several other young men and women of all races showed up. Some were directed to where Nikita was though her social aura seemed to deter them from sitting next to her. The other recruits were here to join their instructors or attend classes. All in all there were twenty GUARDIANS recruits standing, leaning or sitting down on the floor chatting with the others. For the most part, the majority of them were excited with only a few having the jitters. All the excitement and chatter suddenly extinguished like a candle in the wind as the double automatic sliding doors opened and in stepped Vice.

Elsewhere...

Nothing.

Blackness.

Nothing exists here. Time does not flow.

Alone, he stands, one with the void. A solitary entity, a spectator in the impossible expanse of infinity.

Eyes open. For a while, nothing more.

Then, suddenly, another. Two separate people, two souls stranded in the darkness of psychosis.

He shifts closer, raising a hand to touch that of his reflection.

"Who are you?" Sharp, tinny, poignant. The other stares into him, confused.

"I could ask you the same thing." The two look at each other, through each other, trying desperately and cautiously to explain why the other exists. Their other hands raise and meet, pressing against an unseen barrier.

For a while, nothing more.

"You look a lot like me." Quiet, lost.

"Yeah, you too. Hell of a thing, isn't it?" Wry, reassuring.

The two draw closer, sensations shared, exploring one another with a vigor powered by a thirst for knowledge of the other, of themselves. In the void, time flows for just so long, two previously separate streams coalescing into one another in a beautiful impossibility.

They lie, him atop his counterpart, eyes locked once again.

"You are me."

"No, not really." A resigned smile. "But you don't have to worry about that."

"Why?"

"Because you need to wake up."

Light floods into the void. Trees, clouds, painfully blue sky. Vehicles drift in lazy orbits around the skyscrapers of Holtes, silent testament to a mere quarter of civilization's struggle to root itself in the Gurhal System.

JAIS stood, weary, pacing a few steps away from the bench he'd fallen asleep sitting on. A quick check of his chronometer told him he was out for roughly three hours. A note that flittered neglected to the ground told him he was out half an hour too long to meet a rather important client.

JAIS sighed. He didn't need to, but he did it anyway.

The hurried jog to the G-Flyer Base was nothing new to him -- it was the same greetingless, boring rush he'd been accustomed to getting on Parum -- but the fact that he was doing it to save his reputation was certainly an enlightening experience. Cold, uncaring residents passed by at an astonishing rate as JAIS ran with all the speed and strength he could muster.

Through the West Area exit, cut through the middle of Central Square, almost run over a guy on the way through East Area...

"Wait! WAIT! I SAID WAAAAIT!"

JAIS stumbled to a stop at the base of the steps. He caught the slightest hint of a smartly-dressed woman disappearing into the building, waving and leaving nothing but a simple "Too late, kid," to drift toward him on the wind. Another sigh. Equally as unnecessary as the last, but he had a right to it. Defeated, he let himself fall back onto the immaculately paved road beneath him. His eyes didn't meet any of the concerned and awkward glances that passed him by, instead looking up at that bluest of blue skies. The clouds paid him no mind. The occasional air-car drifted by without incident.

Just another day in the life of a Guardian.
