Kubwa, a pale lion, who could often be seen sulking around the Pride Lands was uncharacteristically cheerful. There was a spring in the lion's step as he made his way towards an old, and dear friend's den. With his faith renewed in the female 'species' since a recent encounter, and the prospect that he'll be able to see Wahabu, and his new friend Intombi, Kubwa was excited.

Kubwa had made sure to take a bath the night before making his white fur glossy and immaculate for Intombi, to prove that he really was an attractive lion. Besides, he feared she would pin him down this time and clean him. He was quite close, by the female's directions and he kept his brown eyes high looking for any signs of the big yellow lad.

What had Kubwa done so long ago that seemed to ruin their friendship? He had blamed Wahabu for not telling him Mtima was a goddess, but the pale lion was quite certain that was in the past. What kept them apart for the most part seemed to be that they both had lives and Kubwa needed to care for his son, of course now the little white fluff ball was as large as his father, and threatening to get larger. Did Wahabu even know of Tetemeko? Had the strange traveling female found him?

Habu was in an awful mood. He was lovesick and heartbroken at the same time, not to mention completely unsure of what to do from here. Intombi clearly didn't want him around, and she was going to have his cubs and didn't seem to have any intention whatsoever to let him see them, let alone help her. He was in worse shape than Riko had been when Kiwi went missing, in fact- but Habu had always been much softer than his uncle, much less shy of his emotions. He'd spent the last while sulking by his den, and now instead of Riko staying with him for his own benefit, Riko was staying to keep Habu company. Laying half-in and half-out of the den, Habu had his head on his paws and less-than-enthusiastically in conversation with his dear uncle.

Riko was sitting beside Habu, looking quite good where he was, in comparison to the sad lump beside him. He was doing his best to keep Habu's mind off of his problems with Intombi, though often the conversation turned around and around to it. He'd tried everything from berating her and suggesting other girls that he saw around to encouraging him to try again. Nothing worked, and while Riko was distracted from his melancholy over Kiwi's disappearance, he couldn't help but worry about her and think she'd know exactly what to do in this situation.

"Well," he mumbled, trying to keep a very one-sided conversation going, "The first time I really made it to the elephant graveyard, there was this annoying girl who went with me- but we went with a real elephant, he didn't really like Sen though."

It wasn't the entire truth, but it was how he was willing to tell the story. At least Riko thought this was the first time he was admitting to any specific rule-breaking, so it was something that perhaps might get Habu talking with him.

"Wahabu! Intombi!" Kubwa called, his searching visually did not seem to be going well, and he did not think they would mind him shouting their names, especially if that meant seeing the both of the agian. Happily he continued his search, again calling out their names.

He rolled over the last conversation he had with Intombi, did he hear her incorrectly? He didn't think so, this should be the spot, "Kubwa you old man, losing your eyesight?" he chuckled at himself, he was sure to kick himself in the head for missing where they were.

"Wahabu! Intombi! It's Kubwa!" He called cheerfully.

Habu's attention was caught by the sound of his name being called out by a vaguely familiar voice, his immediate reaction surprising him- until he heard Intombi's name called as well, which made his ears lower as he looked for the source. Luckily, the answer came almost as quick as the initial call. And just when Habu managed to spot his old pale friend nearby.

"Kubwa?" he mumbled, momentarily distracted but by no means completely cheered up. He felt a sudden deep anxiety at his friend's showing up here, especially calling out to both him and Intombi. Intombi had met Kubwa? She'd never mentioned it..

Riko would not normally have been pleased to have a story interrupted, but he was seriously getting very bored of talking to himself about these things- the only problem arose when he heard Intombi's name shouted. Still feeling rather protective of Habu (despite the obvious ridiculous side to that), he got to his feet and stepped outwards a bit.

"Who's that?" he mumbled to Habu, and took the mumbling as a sign that he really did know who it was, "Want me to make him go away?" The youth looked to his nephew, but did not get a response- which was not uncommon today but still rather annoying. Rolling his eyes, he took some more steps away from Habu and the den to get a better look at this cheery visitor.

Finally spotting Wahabu, and someone new, a duller shade of yellow than Wahabu. Kubwa sped up his pace almost galloping a spring in his step. Of course! I might as well kick my self in the head, he chuckled inwardly, his happy state brightening at the sight of his old pal, hadn't changed a bit except for getting larger and growing more fur. How old had they been the last time they laid eyes on one another? Youths within the pride so quite sometime. He lifted his eyes to the approaching lion, expecting Intombi and getting a new strange male made him double take and slow his pace.

"Hello? I umm, hope you don't mind me stopping by?" He questioned unaware of how to interpret the look his old friend had on his face, and the new approaching stranger, "I am Kubwa, I erm..Intombi told me to stop in, she said Wahabu would be glad to see me?" He stopped infront of the red and yellow male.

(Woot, switching up the order)

Riko would have been willing to make Kubwa go away, if Habu had said to do so- but no word and the sudden opportunity to have someone else trying to perk Habu up.. well, the annoyed adolescent was not going to give that up easily, no siree! At the mention of Intombi, though, he couldn't help but sour his expression even further.

"Like she wants to make him happy," he muttered, looking off to the side before glancing at Kubwa once more, "I guess it's OK. I'm Mafuriko, and I'm going to guess you're Kubwa." Easy guess, since they'd both already said his name. With that, Riko turned back around to resume his spot by Habu and prayed this friend would find a way to cheer up the sad yellow lump.

Habu lifted his head off of his paws, watching Kubwa and Riko chat warily. He could hear everything, except for the mumbling, and he had to wonder why Intombi had never mentioned this to him at all. She'd found his best friend, given him instructions on how to get here and then.. never mentioned it? Perhaps it might have been intended as a surprise, but that hardly seemed thoughtful now that she'd ran off on him.

He did his best to smile at Kubwa when Riko moved away, especially when he heard Kubwa say he was expected to glad. And part of him really was.

"It's been a long time," he said.

"Pleasure's all mine, I guess, Mafuriko," Kubwa said wearily, this was not at all how he expected the day to go at all, especially after the murmured comment about Intombi, it seems something must have happened, he did not want to pry, but he was suprised that the sweet female was not here.

He followed Riko back towards Wahabu and gave him a genuine grin, "Far too long, in my opinion my good friend," he flashed a crooked grin to Mafuriko once Wahabu smiled, see? He was sort of glad to see him?

"I umm, wanted to catch up?" He did not expect this first conversation to be awkward, in his imagination it had run smoothly, they swapped stories, Kubwa spoke of his son fondly and they parted ways happily with plans to meet again. He looked down at his white paws, feeling awfully silly for grooming for someone that was not even here.

Habu glanced over at Riko when Kubwa did, coughing a bit in apology and deciding to explain the presence of the odd, colorful and grouchy stranger, "Riko is my uncle, he's staying here with me." He stopped the explanation there one purpose, no longer sure what the precise reason was. First Riko needed him to help deal with the loss of Kiwi, not he needed Riko to keep him company. Not that he did much but sulk, and he knew that perfectly well.

"I hear you have-" Habu started, hesitating to finish the sentence because of his own current problems. Would he have a son himself? As much as he wanted to tell himself to just let it go, he really couldn't.. and hopefully.. once Intombi could be more reasonable, once she had a bit of time.. hopefully she would see that too.

"A son," he finished suddenly, smiling shakily.

Riko, who normally would have puffed up proudly and arrogantly, only smirked smugly and protectively at Kubwa when he was introduced as Habu's uncle. His arrogance kept his expression almost as a dare to Kubwa to make things worse, for the youth was definitely starting to doubt his nephew's taste in friends if this is what Intombi did to him.

Since he had nothing to add to the conversation, though, he simply sat quietly off to the side.

Uncle? He supposed he had seen stranger things, but Riko was quite young, that meant that Wahabu's grandmother, who was probably quite old if she had an adult grandson had had another litter. Well, stranger things have happened, he rolled the idea around in his mind and chuckled lightly looking at Riko.

"I think my son is the same age, if not older than your uncle," he chuckled a little harder, "His name is Tetemeko, I meant to come to you sooner, but his mother, she's not around and I've been quite busy." Oh yeah, you might also have more in common with him yourself, he's half god too. Kubwa held back and then decided to add, "When Boma left him with your mother she brought him to me, and from then on I've had my little man."

Seeing Riko's expression Kubwa rolled his eyes, "I would never be mean to Wahabu, do you have a problem?" He did not say it with an attitude.

Habu glanced over at Riko for some comparison in his mind. It was hard to believe his best friend had a son who was older than Riko, Riko was quite big. He looked over at Kubwa again as he continued, talking about how the boy's mother was not around. Again, Habu was reminded of his own situation- only it was backwards.

But it was quickly overshadowed as Kubwa mentioned how his mother had been the one to bring him his son- this was not something Habu had found out from her. It was surprising, and he couldn't help but wonder why she might keep that from him.. well, he supposed it was a pretty big deal to have a son. Perhaps she hadn't expected Kubwa would not speak to him for so long..

"Your son- is he happy, even without his mother around?" he dared to ask, hoping for some sign that it could work out just as well with only one parent. Habu didn't mean it to be any sort of insult to his friend, he didn't even realize how it could be taken the wrong way.

Riko listened to the conversation carefully, making mental notes about some of the information that was being exchanged even though it didn't have much meaning to him. He'd never met Habu's mother, he didn't know of this Boma and he hadn't heard much about Kubwa before either. However, he was very unimpressed when Kubwa looked over at him- with or without attitude- and asked if he had a problem.

"No, no problem," he muttered, intent on hearing what brilliant answer Kubwa might provide to Habu's question. Riko knew what he was getting at, but he doubted Kubwa would clue in.

The pale lion's chuckling and good natured smile quickly ended as Wahabu asked his question. It was something Kubwa asked himself frequently, was Tetemeko happy with him? Kubwa knew that it hurt the little lad quite a bit that he did not understand why his mother was not around, and Kubwa had waited far to long to explain the situation to his son.

"Tetemeko is, well I think he is very upset she is not around, and does not understand, hell /I/ don't understand why exactly she left, but I think he's adjusted as well as to be expected, he's happy, has friends, and even has a few girls chasing him," sigh, "come to think of it he might be a bit younger than Riko, they're both pretty big boys." He shifted uncomfortably, what a question to ask!

"Good," Kubwa said bluntly to Riko, he wasn't sure how he liked this character, "Any cubs of your own?" He joked with the two of them, trying to get back to the source of his little inner fantasy, like two men meeting for the first time exchanging wallet sized photographs. The question dug at him, was Tete happy? Was he okay? Did Wahabu know something? Had his mother said?

Goodness this male's social skills were lacking, Kubwa had barely any interaction that was not within his family and this killed his ability to be be nice and stay on track with any one thing, he felt compulsively that they must always be happy and in good spirits no sad stories, not from him.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 02, 2008 12:08 pm

Habu listened intently to Kubwa's description of his son, and how well he was doing. It became very obvious very quickly that the situation was different, as Tetemeko's mother had left by choice. Perhaps his own cubs would not question it, they would not worry.. but maybe they might still wonder, still blame him. It was an awful thing to think about, but at least Kubwa said his son was happy, had friends.. that was the most important thing, right?

.. Right?

"That's good," he commented on the situation with Tete, happy that Kubwa at least had a happy little family.

At the question cubs of his own, Habu froze momentarily before shaking his head very carefully. No, he didn't have cubs of his own, not yet.. and event he ones that were coming.. it didn't look like they would really be his, either.

Riko listened to the story about Tetemeko, wondering if he'd ever seen this lion around vaguely. At least, Riko thought, Kubwa's answer was optimistic so Habu could cheer up a little bit! Riko had no true insight into Habu's mind, and would never think of it how Habu thought. l Since his initial bought of blaming Habu, he was fully settled on this whole ordeal being completely and totally the fault of Intombi. It was one reason he'd stopped trying to figure out a nice nickname for her.

He snorted loudly at the question of cubs, knowing that was not a good question to ask Habu. Part of him hoped to remove attention from Habu and part of him felt the need to get his opinion out there.

"Females," he announced very matter-of-factly, "Nothing but trouble."

Kubwa had hoped he'd given an answer that suited what Wahabu was thinking, it was still a very odd question and Kubwa rolled over meanings to why he would ask in his mind, the thought never occurred to him that Wahabu's own children might be growing up fatherless with Intombi. He slow broad smile slipped across his maw and he nodded.

"And don't you forget that! Nothing but pains in the butt, making you feel things and walking away," he described his own predicament, that had happened three times now in his life, but you know what they say, third woman might just be the charm. Not realizing how close it was to Wahabu's current circumstance. "Kids only make the whole ordeal harder..but gods are they worth it! I wouldn't trade Tetemeko for anything."

"So living to bachelors in a pad, any current ladies?" he wanted to know what happened to Intombi, but also wanted to keep the conversation as up beat as possible.

(Switching up the order again XD Riko = faster )

Riko looked over at Kubwa warily, almost surprised he was agreeing so easily- though what he understood from the conversation about this Tetemeko character, maybe it wasn't so surprising. He was still wary of it, though, and he jumped when Kubwa suddenly mentioned kids. Kids making it harder would have been an OK place to stop, but continuing on like that.. one glance at Habu covered his eyes was enough to get Riko back to his feet.

"Ok, I think that's enough of this," he interrupted loudly, "Thanks for dropping by, Kubwa. Give your kid our regards."

Stupid friends of his stupid nephew. Riko was only trying to help, and he didn't know what else to do than avoid the whole conversation all together.

Habu's stomach turned at Kubwa's commentary. He'd never really given thought to if he wanted a family, but he knew it was something he wanted. He'd always been so attached to his, so involved with everyone.. it might not have been planned, something he dicussed with Intombi, he he'd had some idea of what he was getting into from the start of this whole big mess. At least, as far as the possibility of cubs went. He never imagined Intombi might run off, never thought he was imagining that she might truly love him. He put his head on the ground and covered his eyes- just as Riko stepped in front of him.

His mind rolled around what he had to do. This wasn't really helping his plan to just sit and mope, he had to find a way to be a father to his cubs- but how could he do it without really harassing Intombi?

Just as Riko was trying to shoo Kubwa away, he lifted up his head again and hesitated only a second before getting up to his feet. Some hosts they were being, this must all be horrible and confusing for poor Kubwa.

"Riko, stop that," he sighed.

Kubwa's brown eyes widened as Riko dismissed him so quickly, he didn't think he was doing something that bad, just stopping in to see a very old friend, talking and answering questions, asking a few of his own, it was not exactly to his fantasized reunion he 'planned' on the way over here, but it didn't seem too bad, he probably struck a cord.

"Wahabu, I would never hurt your feelings intentionally..not again anyways," he sighed not knowing how to continue, "I'm assuming that Intombi was your female, or one that you thought was 'yours' and now she is gone, by the way you both looked at me. I'm sorry if something bad has happened," He was as abrasive as his mother, just in a different way and his social skills were really getting a work out.

"I wanted our remeeting to be perfect, even thought of taking Tete along with me. But, I guess I cannot do or say anything right today." So much for trying to preserve the happy mood.
