Wandering just shy from his mother's side, the little tan-coloured Godling peered through the dry leaves of the jungle. Though it had been near death when the cubs were born, bits of water and rain had found themselves back into the Mistweavers. And that created a bit more growth to play in.
Kimbilio peered around for his brothers, wondering if he was following him. He felt comfortable with his sister, Ku'i, but he didn't know his red brother as well as his black sister. Maybe they'd go on their own adventure today! And maybe Kimbi could learn to grow a backbone, as well.
"Ekendu?" he whispered, hoping to not catch his mother's attention quite yet. Now, he didn't think about sneaking away, no, but sometimes it was fun to hold secrets, right? That could be an adventure itself. Imagination in the minds of cubs was limitless.

Ekundu Maji, glaring pelt impossible to miss amongst the subtlety of the foilage, was following a ways behind his mother and brother, moving slowly even for him. His gaze was intently focused at the ground as he tried to coax along a large, shiney beetle in front of him. From a distance he seemed to be a little tipsy, as he swerved from side to side to keep his charge from straying, and though this scene was comedic, he was growing more and more frustrated. He had wandered quite a bit from the path when he heard his brother call his name.
Kimbi? He didn't know any of his siblings hardly at all, and was surprised to be addressed, especially by shy little Kimbilo. Although he'd more or less resigned to walking alone (his size and striking coloration had always made him feel different from his brothers and sisters), he couldn't help but be curious about the other cubs.
"Hm? " He turned, the beetle and his frustration quite forgotten, and returned to the path a pace from his kin. "What?" he asked, genuinely curious.

The smaller of the two sons wriggled his way a bit closer to his brother. He was a bit wary of him, but it was really only for his size; Kimbi was a bit small and scrawny, even moreso than some of his sisters. Not that he could help it much, but in some ways that made him similar to his mother.
"Whatcha doooing?" he chimed, peering around. He didn't see anything, so he was just curious on what he might be doing. He had never really talked much with his brother, and it would be a good idea to get closer to him. They were the only two boys, too.
He glanced back at his mother, who looked a little bored. Well, at least she didn't seem as nervous as she used to do when they were even younger than they were now. Kimbi never liked seeing his mother looking like that.

Ekundu's intense gaze lingered for a moment on his mother. He looked to Kimbi and felt a slight pang of jealousy for the cub who not only looked so much like her, but was practically tied to her with a very short length of invisible rope, when she hardly ever cast a look in his direction. He realized suddenly that he had been staring fixedly at Kimbi with an odd look for a few seconds too long, and suddenly jumped backwards.
"What? Wha-Oh!" He recomposed himself. "Well, I've been helping the beetles you see. " He glanced around for his charge, but they were long gone. "Like, training them, yenno? So they'll be able to win fights with other beetles when they go back home." He grinned with pride.

Kimbi's gold eyes widened as he thought that he understood. Wow, getting stronger! That was one thing that he wasn't really good at. Being strong. Maybe someday he would, but as a cub, he'd be his ragged self.
He took a couple steps forward to his brother, trying to just see where these beetles were. Hmmm, he still couldn't seem to locate them.
"Didja let 'em go, then?" he asked, still peeking around. "I'm sure you did a good job!" He admired his brother for being bigger, and seeming much braver than him, but he was also a bit dense in what probably went on in his mind, or how his mother might feel towards his brother.

He glanced around quickly out of the corner of his eye for any nearby beetles, but didn't see any. He certainly didn't want Kimbi to know that he might have... lost them. He didn't like lying... but he did choose to talk to Kimbi instead of pursuing his last apprentice, so he did kind of let it go...
"Sure did! He'll be alright now." He smiled a bit at Kimbi's praise and held his tail a little higher. But then he glanced quickly back at his mother, wondering when the short band tying them together would pull Kimbi away again. But... he really didn't want him to go. Now that he had someone to talk to...
"Um, hey, you want to help me find another one to train?" His tail twitched a little but he tried not to betray his anxiety.

"To train?" So was it Ekundu's job to train them all, all the beetles in the jungle? Well! Sure, he'd help! "Okay!" he chirped, his nose instantly on the ground as he tried to spy beetles scurrying around.
He was ignorant of his mother's missing presense, though. She must had left them to where they were, but Kimbi had no idea what danger was. He hadn't been in any real danger before, just the times when Ku'i would startle him when they went out exploring.
His little gold eyes soon caught the sight of a bug. A bug! Upon closer inspection, though, it just turned out to be an ant pulling the carcass of...some other kind of bug.
"Man, finding these beetles are hard, Ekundu. How d'ya do it?"

Ekundu was startled for a moment, then excitedly began searching too. Any thoughts of his mother evaporated as he shoved his nose under roots and around stems looking for the shiny gleam of a beetle's armor.
"Well uh, beetles usually like dark places. Like under rocks and stuff." He overturned a smallish rock to reveal a score or so of ants, which swarmed up and tried to n** at his paws. He gave a soft yelp and shook them off, setting the rock firmly back on top of them and glaring down at it. "Eheh, Be careful what else you might find under there too though!" He backed away from that rock and overturned a few more rocks with little luck, then started pushing against a fallen log.

Kimbi was trying to look, but at the same time he was trying to watch what Ekundu was saying, since Kimbi didn't really know what to look for "Oohh," he said, though he couldn't help but jump once he heard Ekundu yelp.
Oooh, this was kinda dangerous too, huh?
He nosed over a couple rocks, not finding much of anything, really. Just other little bugs that didn't look like they would be trainable. His gold eyes caught sight of a very low-growing fern. That looked dark and ideal for a beetle.
He skidded over there, trying to see if he could see something, but it was too dark to really see anything in great detail. He swished his paws around in there, and felt something.
What came out on his paw, though, freaked him out.
"A spider!" he squealed, trying to get the sticky thing off of him.

What?! Kimbi?! Ekundu whirled around and leaped over to him. "Where?!" He spotted the spider clinging to his paw. EW! Oh no, what if it bit him?!
"Hold still!" Ekundu batted at it with his paw, only for it to stick to HIM. "HEY!!" He shook his paw and then his arm, twisting as he tried to get it off. Then he somewhat accidentally smacked his paw hard against a stone, crushing the spider into a sticky mess. He fell back and sat panting.
"Oh, oww, owww my paw... " He licked it gingerly, only to make a face and spit out the spider guts. But he didn't seem to be bitten. But what about--
"Kimbi? Kimbi? Are you ok? Did it bite you?!" He stared at his brother's paw intently.

Kimbi was in shock from the whole incident, but managed to come out of it alright. He stared at Ekundu dumbly for a moment, before giving himself a good, hard shake. It made him nearly fall over and into his brother, but Kimbilio wasn't that pathetic. He was able to keep himself up at least, though.
"I'm....ok!" he said, the first part being slow and sluggish, the ending rushed and excited. "What about you, Ekundu?" He peered at his brother carefully, almost like their mother might, then peering down at his paw. He better be ok, 'cause he didn't have to do that at all!
