For the beginning of spring, the sun was out and it was a beautiful day. The chill wind that whipped across the plains didn't dampen the joyous mood of the Wind stallion that found himself looking up in wonder at the clear, pale blue skies. Fancies of flight flashed through his mind, but he wasn't here to fly. He was here to get some sustinance and strength back after a relatively harsh winter. His think winter coat was starting to come apart, scruffy looking and itchy. Why, only the day before he had spent a good hour rubbing his side against a branch in some sore attempt to rid the itch, but it only worked for a little while, and as soon as he moved on from that tree, it had returned with a vengance as the fur started to die off and come loose. Shaking out his mane, the Wind snorted. His unusual colouring and patterns made him stick out quite sorely in the barren looking plain.
There was still snow on the ground, but here and there, strong green blades were forcing their way up to the sun, and that sun was obliging by melting away the worst of the ice and snow and feeding those little shoots the nutrients they needed. Tawali always loved this time of year, the miracle of new life returning from the shells of what had seemed to of died. Yes, this stallion was not always the 'wild child' of his youth, though it was very rare to see him in such a contemplative state. His cyan and blue swirled eyes were a little spaced, turned out to the nature around him, and for once, he were apparently still, something anyone who knew him well would say was an extremely odd sight, for this stallion was constantly moving, either a slight shift from one foot to another and then back, or a constant flicker to his blood red tipped wings, or perhaps a constant flit of his tail, so that the braid-beads and feathers clacked together.
Yet, for the stallion in question, he hardly seemed to notice his own stillness. His mind was thinking, marvelling, just generally being a hasty and quick mind that this stallion was sure to possess. Sure at times he was childish, but he had the capabilities to be a leader and a lover and an adviser to his family, as well as those few good friends he had made in his time in this new place. There had surely been set-backs to his plan to resettle his life in a new place, for example the arrival of his life-rival. That medicine hat stallion had for sure been sent to see whether their outcast had survived, but instead of going back, had decided to stay and reek havoc in the life Tawali had built to support himself. But one could not dwell on problems, when for such a long time, they had not shown their faces or reared their ugly heads to his path. Smirking a little, the stallion returned to some semblance of normality, and twitched his wings a few times, settling them once, twice, three times on his back before happily bending his powerful neck to scratch a few morsels from the fresh new growth.
Tawali knew he had to be cautious out here. All sorts of predators could get him out here, and he didn't want to be open to any attack. He already had a scarred face, and he didn't want any more to add to his collection. After a few scraps had been plucked, the stallion raised his head and took a few steps away from that patch, moving on and casting a sharp eye about himself. He would spot any before they snuck up on him, that was for sure.

This was it, this was the day to give Vasu'Raj hope in the season to come. Winter had been a dreadful waste to the land, and he rarely enjoyed it. The cold didn't bother him, but the snow snuffed across everything living, was unbearable. It was a long winter indeed. His mother and father had bared two new siblings into the family for start. This was something to be happy over, right? Vasu was happy for his mom and dad, but at the same time, it had made him worry about the future. He didn't want them to have foals again.....before he did. That meant finding the girl. It was much more complex than he ever imagined it would be. On one side, it wasn't easy meeting mares, the other, the mares seemed more like friends than potential mates. He was beggining to feel as if it would remain that way. Vasu'Raj, buddy to any mare. Was he being too picky? Was he missing the spark that he imagined he would find? This was his normal frame of mind, day in and day out.
Today however, was different. Spring was beating the winter snow back to the rivers and the earth. It meant that the grass would soon dry out the lands and Vasu' could ease his mind soon. He would laze around in the dirt, and try to forget his troubles when he could. Not quite yet though. The snow still hid in patches of shade, and left a wet squish to the rest of the land. Only a few sparse hairs of grass were making their way towards the sun. Still enough to give hope to Vasu.
A bit of his echoing voice began to ring in his head. He had a tendency to talk out his actions, then execute them in just the way he had thought. In a nut shell, he talked to himself. Only when he was alone of course, and in the right mood.
Lift that chin....
smell the promise of spring.....
then find some young grass to chew.....
So he did just that. He lifted his chin into the air and closed his eyes as he flared his nostrils, taking in the scent of the earth around him. Picking up his feet, he then headed out of the shade. It seemed there were patches of earth that had been dry long enough, to support the growth of the new grass. Vasu could smell it. He lowered his head down, and followed the scent diligently. His tail swished to and fro as his nose did the work, moving to the left or right, when his nose told him to.
He paid no mind to anything else around him, but rather focused on finding some grass. He could of walked straight into the territory of a kalona, and he wouldn't of even noticed....

The sounds of other hooves drew the Wind stallion from his reviere. Raising his head, cyan and blue swirled eyes glanced around, watching for the source of the sounds. One ear twisted back, and his blood red tail flicked his sides, wings twitching a little hesitantly. They were definitely hooves... or very big paws... Narrowing his eyes and bringing down his brows, Tawali decided the best idea was to crest the small hillock that blocked the oncoming of any. His light hoof-steps made light work of it, and as he raised his head over the crest, spotted the culprit of the sounds. It was a reasonably young stallion, probably only a little older then his daughters, and was patterned most peculiarly, though Tawali knew he himself could boast pretty extraordinary patterns, as could his daughter 'Suli. Vidia had been fortunate to only inherit his colours, and some of her mother's markings. It had been the other way around for poor 'Suli. She had red versions of his blue, but was still a stunning mare, as far as a proud father was concerned.
Watching the stallion silently for a bit, Tawali gauged he was simply no threat at all, and was, like he, trying to find some scrap of green to boost his energy after the harsh winter that had just passed. Twitching his tail so that the feathers and braid-beads clicked a few times, Tawali made his decision. Approaching was simple for Tawali. Being Wind, his bones were hollow and he was built altogether much lighter then the stallion before him. Tawali only had experience to boast, should the other see him as a threat, yet, really, how could he? Tawali had an ever present smile that always pulled his mouth up, a mischievious sparkle to his eyes that meant he was only out to make friends and misbehave. His overall demeanor was one of a friend. Flicking back his ear as be approached silently, Tawali made the first move toward friendship... or at least, he hoped the other would believe that was the case.
"Well no', don' ye tell meh Ah missed some goo' grass 'ere! Ah swears blin' meh eyesigh's no'h li' i'h was! Ye foun' anythin' be'h'er then this 'ere grassy knoll? No'h any new, early clov'r, or even n'early cowslip?" Tawali tilted his head with a smile, blood red mane obscurring his eyes for a moment before he flicked his head to removing it from his vision. "Ye don' min' me intrus'on do ye? Ah 'eard ye over yon'er, an' tho'r may'ap two se'h o'eyes was be'h'er then one when lookin' ou'h for them's sly sneaks o'plants!" Tawali grinned jovially and bowed his head a little.
"Me name's Tawali. Ah don' thin' we've ye'h 'ad the ple'sure o'meetin'. What's ye callin' then, fine stallion?"

Vasu nipped at a dry root, pulling at it with his mouth, questioning its taste. It was very bland and hardly satisfying. He moved on and nudged at a rock with his nose. The rock made the oddest clanking noise and he stared at it for a split second, then realized it hadn't been the rock at all. Keeping his head craned to the ground, he lifted his eyes to search out the sound. He didn't expect to see much, but was surprised to see another stallion. He then slowly lifted his head to match his gaze. Vasu couldn't help but notice the vibrant shade of his hair. It was wild.
Before he could think a moment more, he caught the direction of the strangers movement. The beads on his tail must of been the source of the sound he heard. Being that he was so interested in mares at the moment, he couldn't help but wonder if such accessories would help him to get more attention. He shook his head. His mother had told him that he just needed to be himself.
His expression changed as he listened to the stallion speak. Of course he was speaking to Vasu, but his voice was thick with an accent he had yet to hear. It took him a moment to catch what he was saying and his face relaxed a bit. "No, I haven't found much thus far, aside from a few roots." he shook his head, a little disappointed. His eyes scanned from side to side and his chin dipped, as if he knew a secret and was about to share. "I know there's bound to be some green around here somewhere. I can smell it." his eyebrows raised to accent the fact that he could smell it. He was almost certain that the stallion could smell it too. He jiggled his head from side to side. "Naw, I don't mind at all. Your right, the two of us are bound to find something scrumptious." he confirmed.
"Vasu'Raj, Vasu, both work for me, so call me either." he grinned.

Tawali smiled at the stranger, and bowed his head in return to the offer of the name. Turning his eyes out to the vast plain stretching out in front of them, Tawali chuckled softly, a sound he had passed on his his Wind daughter, though sounded much cuter on her. Tawali's was just what it was, a jovial chuckle of ascent, of recognition to the stallion's comment. Swirled eyes twinkled as they passed back to the stallion, a flop of red mane falling over the scarred one. Twisting an ear back for a moment, a flick of his beaded and feathered tail, Tawali bent his head to look at the roots around him.
"Ye're righ' fella. These 'ere roo's ain' wha' we shoul' be ea'in'! They's no'h a'h all nutritious. Come, take a walk wi'h me." Tawali raised his head and motioned with a blood tipped wing over the knoll. Taking a few steps, wavering his tail to make the clanking noise he enjoyed so much, Tawali looked back with a smile to the stallion.
"So, Vasu' is't? 'Ow did ye fin' the wint'r, no' tha' it be passin'? Did ye spen' i'h wi'h fam'ly, or is ye a ma'ed stal'ion? Such'a fine gen'leman as yeself mus' be a proud catch?!" Tawali chuckled again and snorted, shaking his head. His feet itched to run, and his wings to flap, but he needed to feed. His stomach growled for some sustinance, and who was he to deny it. Deciding to release a little energy, Tawali bounced a few of his steps, a true skip and spring to his step. His eyes still scanned, but he was too energetic, even with his hunger. Hopefully Vasu'Raj would be more successful then he. He seemed a much more down to earth fellow. Reminded him a bit of Ever. And Uwoduhi'Suli too...

Vasu starred at the ground with intent on finding anything, something green and tasty. Without looking up to often, he followed the sound of the red haired stallion he had just met. It was the first wind he had ever hung out with, and it didn't even phase him. They were soquili just like any other. They could just fly.
Vasu listened as the questions were uttered so casually from Tawali. He thought of the answers while they were asked, waiting for him to finish speaking. The last question however, made his head and eyes shoot up towards Tawali with slight shock. He had even stopped walking. Shaking his head, he picked his pace back up. "Well.." his head spun with the complexity of such a simple question. He figured he should start with the first. A light chuckle escaped his lips as he relaxed. "The winter was bearable, just monotonous in covering everything with snow, snuffing out everything it touched." His shoulders shrugged. The cold hadn't bothered him, just the lifeless pull it forced on the lands. "As for my family, it grew. Foals in the winter, who knew?" He shook his head and looked up. "Not mine of course, my mom's. It was something watching them pop out their baskets."
His lips pushed together. "Hmm." A look of contemplation spreading from his lips to his eyes. "I don't have a family of my own yet. Seems I haven't found the right mare, if I am a proud catch." He didn't doubt that he would, he just couldn't help but think he was doing something wrong sometimes. "I've found friends this winter." his voice sounded a little relieved. At least he had a few mares for friends. Meant that at least he could do that right.
Vasu let out a laugh, wondering if he had said too much.

Tawali smiled at the stallion and weaved his head from side to side, leading his skipped steps from side of side in a meandering motion. He was definitely a very common stereotype of a Wind, full of energy and happy to run and play, even when old and greying in the mane and tail. Tawali, though not yet close to greying, was certainly an older stallion, but it didn't stop him from playing the fool, even now. Tawali listening intently to Vasu'Raj, even though he seemed preoccupied with his fun little walk. Foals in the winter eh? Must be from a strong line of soquili to have foals survive such a harsh winter! Good lineage was important.
"Foals o' a win'er! Mos' sincere congra'ulations te ye Etsi an' Doda! A goo' 'erd in the makin' by the soun's o' i'h!" Tawali smiled. "Me win'er was spen' wi'h me girls. Me mate an' me two uwetsi. Beau'iful girls. One li'h me mate, Ever. Her colours, bu'h me win's, the other, me colours, 'er Etsi's sure hoof. Both beau'ies!" Tawali's eyes glazed a moment, and he stopped his quick little steps, turning his head a moment to look at his new friend, swirled eyes filled with love for his family. "Ah'd le'h ye mee'um, bu'h me girls are off'a won'rin' by theyselves, and me mate is a long fligh' from these plains."
Trotting up the rest of the small slope to the other side, Tawali gazed out over the wide expanse of returning green, speckled with large patches of still melting snow. The patches him reminded him a little of the majority of his home-herd cousins, many of which had been tabino or paints. Sometimes, he missed those old times, but now he had something altogether more exciting and amazing. "Ah'm sure ye are a goo' catch me frien'. Ye jus' need a good frien' to become somethin' more te ye. Tha's 'ow i'h was for me'n Ever. Such an amazin' momen', the day we became lifemates. She is me Sacrifice." Tawali flickered his wings al little. His mate being grounded meant a lot. She was his sacrifice, but it was a sacrifice he had been willing to make. Something he would never be able to turn his back on. He hoped his new friend would find that one day.

Vasu was a lighthearted stallion himself. He noticed the fun step in Tawali's walk, and couldn't help but want to join in. Though, his step was not quite as fluid, he bounded along in a foal like fashion with ease. Vasu tended to be more playful when alone, but he figured he had nothing to lose, since Tawali was already skipping along.
Well, it was a good herd in the making, but one that made itself around him, rather than through him. He almost ran into Tawali when he stopped and looked at Vasu. He had been focusing so much on his silly hoof beat. He didn't run into him however, and only continued to listen after he too stopped for a moment. He listened as he talked of his family with pride in his voice. He wondered what they were like for a moment and nodded as he began to follow again by his side.
His mouth began to water at the sight just beyond the slope. There were dots of green just about everywhere. He continued to listen as he spoke of his mate, cocking his head as he heard the word sacrifice. He didn't quite know what he meant by it, but could begin to understand what it might mean to make a sacrifice for another. "There's nothing I wouldn't give, for love." He shrugged casually and stepped on to the first shape of green, lush grass. The blades were short, but had a pungent concentration of flavor. It was downright delicious.
After a bit of grazing, curiosity began to tug at him. What kind of sacrifice had Tawali made? What it be rude to ask. He stopped chewing for a minute, not realizing he was staring at the Wind stallion as he thought on. He almost admired him, for being able to give up something, for the greater love of a mare.

Tawali smiled at his companion, pleased to have found a kindred spirit in his new friend. Willing to give up important things, all for the love of another. Shame this male had not yet had the pleasure of meeting one of his girls. He was sure that Vidia would appriciate his kind heart, as nervous and skittish as she was, but 'Suli would find a spirit that would be much liken to her own, a slightly curious, independant soul, but one that still enjoyed their family ties. He grinned as the stallion headed toward the closest patch and began to graze. Tawali followed suit, almost oblivious to the curious stare of the other. When he looked up and spotted it, Tawali near chuckled with delight.
"Stal'ion, fear no' what ye wan' te say. Jus' up an say i'h! Per'aps tha' is where ye're havin' difficulty wi' the ladies? Ye shoul' jus' say wha's on ye're min', and damn the consequences till they occur!" He grinned at the male and tilted his head a little, wings flicking a little to resettle themselves, and his tail played the jingling tune of feathers and beads clacking against each other. He waited patiently for the other to gain the courage to say what was on his mind. "So li'h me Vid'a, thinkin' before speakin'. Ye'd learn a grea'h deal from a meetin' wi'h 'Suli! She's certainly a speak then thin' foal!" He grinned at his new friend.

((Please excuse typos, I am blind as a bat on my brothers computer. @.@))
Vasu blushed unnoticeably, dropping his eyes back down to the ground. "It's not that, it's just, your so lucky. It seems you have the key things to making a family important." he blushed again, nipping at the grass some more, only to half chew it before swallowing. "I just can't help being overly expectant for my own chance."
Grazing was completely satisfactory, trying his best to completely enjoy it. He let the thought of mares easily overcome him. "I'd be honored to meet your daughter...uh...sir." His disposition towards Tawali feeling a little off at the thought of meeting his daughters. It felt a little awkward about it, showing in the epression of his face. What were his expectations of him meeting her anyways? It couldn't hurt anything he guessed. He just didn't want anything to change the way the great Wind thought about him.
"For now, I think we have an appointment with the blades of destiny." he snirked, as he leaned forward and ripped some grass if a bit dramatically. He was doing his best to joke and make light of the way the conversation had made him feel. It worked. Momentairly, he felt humored by his only silliness.
