With a yawn, the colt awoke that morning only to see the fluffy backs of his brother and mother next to him. They both had the same coloring, and sometimes he couldn't even tell them apart! Huojin's initial reaction was to wake his brother up, since he surely wasn't going to sit there and wait by himself for them to wake up! With a head-nudge forward, he gently butted his head against his brother's back, in hopes that his lazy self would get up soon!

It had only been a day or so since the colt had escaped from his basket, and the world was still so fresh and new to him. As he quietly stood up from the freezing ground, he realized just how small he was in the grand scheme of things.

As he stared down at this family members, a frown stuck on his snout, since they were STILL sleeping! "WAKE UP!" he then said, while stomping his hooves on the ground. When he looked down at his legs, he once again was reminded at how bright his coloring was compared to his brother's and mother's. Why was that? Was the colt strange? Huojin told himself that he was naturally a spectacle, and that he was born with some sort of prized coloring. Rather then thinking about it negatively, and as if he was an outcast, he was quite pleased and thankful to be so... bright!

Ju had been very tired in the time after she the foals had emerged from the baskets. She had been sleeping deeper than she could ever remember sleeping before. But it still didn't seem to be enough. When she woke up, she was still tired. But this morning, she was unexpectedly brought out of her slumber by her son, who was being impatient this morning. She sighed and opened her eyes, lifting her head and looking at him.

"Good morning, Huojin. I do wish you had been a bit quieter."

She sighed again, bringing herself to her feet. She shook her head, trying to wake herself up, and nudged her other son with her foot.

"Time to wake up, Shen. We need to have breakfast."

She wasn't the best mother figure, but then again, she hadn't been too excited about having children in the first place. But at least she wasn't as bad as her mother had been.

Shen didn't need the nudge from his mother to wake up, but it was some much needed encouragement. His brother was such an excited foal, and it was so different than what he was. His early morning greeting had been a bit early. At the nudge from his mother, he finally stood up, his eyes half-open.

"Must we get up now? Huojin is the only one who wants to wake up."

He looked over to his brother, and it still surprised him how different he looked from him and his mother. While Shen only had a few hints of red on his coat, Huojin was almost completely red. Though both of them had their mother's golden markings. But he couldn't help but wonder where Huojin got his colouring from.

Huojin lowered his head at his mother's words, but quickly smiled again when she was finally standing up from the ground. He just loved when he got his way, and he was glad to see the entire family was up now! Huojin then moved himself so that he could snuggle up against his mother's side, before waiting for her to lead the way. His thoughts were son distracted back to his brother, and he playfully sneered while looking at Shen.

"There is no reason to sleep Shen when the day has already started HOURS ago. Right momma?" And with that, the colt looked up to his mother with dramatic eyes, while swishing his tail playfully. "If we slept all day, we would be lazy, and lazy is bad and unproductive." Huojin didn't need for his logic to make sense, he just like talking as much as he could.

"I am glad we are going to go look for breakfast, I am hungry mom!" He was a demanding little boy, but all in all, he was trying to hide his bossiness by snuggling up against his mother's side.

Ju inched away from her son as he snuggled up against her. It was a strange feeling for her. She had never experienced closeness with any of her family, and was still adjusting to life with children.

"Well, true, the day did start a long time ago, but some of us enjoy our sleep."

She sighed and began to walk out of the cover of the trees, to a place where she knew the grass was sweet.

Shen looked at his brother, his eyes a little glazed over, as he considered his string of logic.

"Well, I suppose it would be bad to be lazy. Though I do still feel a bit tired. But I'm sure that as I fully wake up, I'll start to feel better. So, shall we be off to find something to eat, then?"

He smiled lightly and followed his mother as she set off. His expression was calm and content, as he waited for his body to wake up for the day.

Feeling his mother brush past him, Huojin slowed himself so that he was now trailing behind his brother and mother. It wasn't that he disliked them, but he felt some odd disconnection from them for some reason. He enjoyed being a pest to his mother, and he also enjoyed bothering his brother when he had the chance. All in all, it was basically for attention.

"Maaan I am starving." he then said, while rolling his eyes on the various trees and plants that lay around him. He couldn't tell what was edible or not, so he decided not to do anything too rash. He didn't want to hurt his delicate body! "Shen, you are so quiet and boring like mom. We need some excitement around here!" With a grin, the colt then kicked his legs backwards before swiftly darting past his brother, and then his mother. He was moving faster and faster until he was at a stable trotting pace. "I'm not gonna walk like a zombie like you two!" he then yelled, while zig zagging back and forth while laughing to himself. He wasn't going to far, and he kept making circles in front of his family.

Ju departed with her other son, moving so that she was ahead of both of them. She was the leader of the family, and they were not to walk in front of her.

As Huojin yelled at her and Shen from behind, she gritted her teeth a bit. He was such a bothersome little foal at times, and she really couldn't stand his company at the worst of times. When he said that she was boring, she spun around and glared at the foal.

"Why don't you just be quiet! You have no idea what it means to be boring, or exciting, or anything. You're nothing but a stupid child."

She quickly turned around again and continued on her way, ignoring him as he sped in front of her. She was trying to collect herself. She knew that it was wrong to have yelled at him like that, but she couldn't help it. But now she was restraining herself from yelling at him for walking ahead of her.

"Boring? I disagree." His voice was calm and distant as always. He let his eyes wander as he strolled along, thinking about this. Why would his brother think that he was boring? He was never really bored, so that must mean that he wasn't boring, right?

"But Huojin, I really see nothing wrong with my personality. And...there is definitely nothing wrong with a nice slow stroll, especially first thing in the morning."

At his mother's crazed words, Huojin only lifted his nose in the air, knowing that she was COMPLETELY wrong. He had a confidence that was unbeatable, and it was a confidence he taught himself as a child, since he didn't need attention from others to keep himself satisfied. He only needed reassurance from himself, and that was why he always acted so rashly against his mother and brother. It worked as both a way to get their attention, but also ignore them as well!

He did retreat though, and he made his way from in front of his mother to back behind her, since that's where his brother was walking. There was no reason to completely disobey his mother, and he only smirked at her before staring at his quieted brother. "Well, if I say I am bored, then I am bored. Shen, you like to relax. I don't!" With a grin, he playfully bumped into his brother's side, before looking at their tall mother in front of them. He must have gotten his great looks from his mom, since she was really pretty!

"I wonder if mom hates me." he then said, as he whispered in Shen's ear. "Actually, probably." With a mischevious grin, he chuckled at his brother before continuing to focus on his walking pattern.

Ju glared at her son, trying her hardest not to lash out at him too much. Being a good mother was proving more difficult than she had expected. Though she was still determined to be a better mother to her sons than her mother was to her.

As Huojin moved back behind her, she allowed herself to smile contentedly. She obviously still had some power over him. That was key, to be able to control her children, but not too harshly. She sighed lightly and continued on her way. They were almost to the place she had in mind.

Shen watched his brother as he seemed to enjoy tormenting their mother. He really didn't like how Huojin treated her. He seemed to enjoy bothering her, and this thought was confirmed at his next comment.

"Do you want mother to hate you?"

He really couldn't understand why his brother acted the way he did. He didn't see a reason for it. At his comment about his personality, though, he tilted his head, thinking.

"Its not that I like to relax...its just the way I am. I'm not relaxing right now. I'm just...being."

He allowed himself to chuckle at his own words. He sounded to philosophical sometimes.

Huojin pondered his brother's first words, while brushing himself against trees and bushes lazily. "When she hates me, she notices me." he then said, while glancing at his brother with a scruffy attitude. "At least she doesn't ignore me, you behave all of the time, so how can she notice you?" Huojin had some strange logic to his words, and his ways were based on what he could observe from his mother's actions.

"Well you can be what you like, and I am going to continue being who I am as well. We were supposed to be born different, you know?" He moved himself over to his brother, and stared at his markings and coloring. "If you wanna be exactly like mom, that is cool with me. But look at me, I can't even look like her!" He laughed at himself, and found some anxiety in his voice. As much as he put on a show, it almost bothered him that he was so different.. he was a confused little colt, but he wouldn't let that bring him down!

When they had finally reached the place she had had in mind, Ju turned around to look at her children. She could tell that Huojin was trying to get under Shen's skin, as usual. She sighed and called to them.

"This is where we're going to eat. There's a small pond over there if you get thirsty."

She then turned her back on them and began to eat, not paying them much mind.

Shen mulled over his brother's strange logic. He didn't quite understand why Huojin thought that he had to misbehave for his mother to notice him. Shen was very well-behaved, and his mother paid plenty of attention to him. And then there was the fact that he was always accusing Shen of being exactly like their mother, which Shen disagreed with.

"You don't have to misbehave. If you act nicely, she will notice you for the good behaviour. And really, I'm not exactly like mom. We may look similar, but we act quite differently. Don't you see that? Or can you only see what we look like?"

In a snotty manner, Huojin darted away from his brother without answering his other words. He instead ran right to a particularly green patch of grass before chomping for a moment and making his way to the crystal clear pond of water. Their mother had done well with her findings, and Huojin grinned as he drank up as much water as he could. "Come on, Shen! Don't be shy!" The colt continued to run from the grass patch to the water, before finally realizing he was out of breath. "Working for my meal sucks.." he then said, while looking over to his brother. "Well yeah, I pretty much only see what you look like.. What else am I supposed to do?" he frowned slightly with extreme confusion. His brother was much too complex for him!

Ju kept her head down, munching on some very nice grass. She was glad she had come to this place. She looked up momentarily to watch Huojin dart between the patch of grass and the water. Rolling her eyes, she decided that she couldn't completely ignore him and she should probably say something.

"Huojin! What are you doing? Make up your mind on what you want to do! Can't you stay still for one moment?!"

She huffed and lowered her head again, resuming her meal.

Shen found his own little patch of grass to eat from, ignoring his brother's annoyed attitude. Or perhaps he just didn't realize. When he spoke again, however, he lifted his head and looked at his brother.

"If you stay still for a while, you won't have to work as hard. Or just find a spot near the water to eat from. Or you could just eat for a while, and then get a drink."

As if to demonstrate this, he strolled casually over to the pond from his patch of grass and lowered his head delicately and began to drink from the cool pond. Raising his head again, he turned back to his brother.

"Well, then I pity you for only being able to see the outside of others. There is much, much more on the inside. You can't tell everything from the way one looks."

He smiled lightly, returning to his eating.

Huojin stopped himself when he heard his mother yell, and he lowered his ears for a second, since he was rather annoyed with her yelling voice. Plus it was really really scary! Maybe he would calm down, and show her! He wanted to just run and play, but instead he would have to be boring it seemed. That was ok.. since relaxing was ok, too.

He walked over towards his brother and nibbled at the grass. "I don't need pity, so keep it." he then said, while grass was in his mouth. "I'll learn all of these things, and be better. But for now, I'm just going to eat, ok?" he glanced back towards his brother, wondering how he was always so calm and composed. "I am sorry, Shen, but I don't think I'll ever be as quiet as you are. I hope you'll still accept me though." He had a brother, and he was hoping he could remain on good terms with him even in adulthood. They didn't have many in their family, so Huojin didn't want to lose out on any relationships. "Maybe you'll need me one day for something.." he then stated, while holding a big grin. "That would be awesome." Shen was always helping him, so he would work hard to help his brother!

As she ate her fill, she made her own way over to the pond. She was still a bit tired, so she decided to lay down on the banks after having a few drinks. She sighed as she lowered herself to the ground and looked over her shoulder to see what her boys were up to. Seeing that they were entertaining each other fine, she turned back to face forward, and closed her eyes.

Shen regarded his brother with curiosity. He was so rebellious sometimes, and he really didn't understand why. And he didn't seem to care much about many things that Shen found were necessary to gain experience in life.

"I'm not saying that you have to be just like me. It just seems sometimes that you go out of your way to annoy our mother. Perhaps I am misinterpreting and you are just much more energetic than I am, and you can't help but act the way you do. And I will accept you, Huojin. You are my brother, and you always will be. I'd never abandon you. We are family, and we must stick together."

He smiled lightly and continued to eat.

Huojin looked over to see his mother falling into a sleep, and he took the opportunity to start running back and forth again, since it was allowed now! The freedom felt great, and he was thankful that his mom was finally comfortable as well. He didn't want to bother her ALL the time, just sometimes.

He was thankful to hear his brother's words, and he stopped in front of Shen and gleamed happily. "I'll never leave you either, even if you'd want me too!" though there was humor in his voice, he was serious at the same time. "I'm going to try and be more courteous, I promise Shen. Especially to you. I'm only difficult to mom because she is difficult to me back!" He had to stick up for himself... his mind told him he had too! "I'm not always difficult.. its just hard to notice me when I'm polite!"
