Sounds dirty right? Wrong. It's from the Latin for to feed. Like nourishment for the mind or body, even as far as to mean pointless TV sitcom fodder for the mind.
I've had Felix at work, asking me this every night, what it means. He knows, but he's curious to know what I think considering I'm learning languages, especially English. (He's from Africa.)

Regarding the poll, I would respond that the person could attempt said action but he may lose his thumb.
