Well, in the broad sceme of things, yes, friendship and love are the same thing. Love is where you care for someone deeply, friendship is the same. Now, if you wanna narrow it down to pure love, or true love, like girlfriend, boyfriennd, husband, wife kind of relationships, then there can be an argument that they are different. As an AP student, this question is like many others. There is no right answer. It is your preference and both sides can be argued. All I can tell you is that if you can argue that it is the same, then it is the same. If you can argue that it isn't the same, then that's the right answer. If you can argue both, make your choice.

Here is my argument. (I'll try not to make it into an essay!)

Friends can love each other and lovers can be friends. One cannot exist without the other. Friends cannot be friends without love and you cannot love someone without being their friend. It is the Light and Shadow, Good and Evil debate. Without love, there is no friendships and without friendships there is no love. If you were to say you were someone's friend, but you acted like you hated them and ignored them when they are suffering, then, well... You couldn't say you loved them, could you? Well, if you didn't love them, then you can't be their friend. You can lie to yourself and to them by saying you are their friend, but ultimately the friendship will not get far. The same goes for the reversed situation. The lovers will ultimately fail if they were not friends. If there is a love relationship without friendship or a friendship without love, then you enter into betrayel and hate, which can, in the end, cause problems in the future to the person that was lied to and used. This can be argued that this is the cause of most of problems between people. If the relationship is empty, then there will be nothing. Love and Friendship may or may not be the same. This is my argument. One cannot exist without the other.
