Many days had passed since Nahuel had returned to her. It was a sweet moment of bliss when he came romping back into her heart and they had spent much of their time together. And soon they would be off to seek out his family so she could meet them and them her.
But today the little flutter felt off. She had slipped away early in the morning into the field once more. The wind was still bitter cold, but the warmth of the sun promised that spring would soon be upon them. Flying had become a bit difficult and as she landed on a long blade of new grass that had started to poke through the snow, it bent violently until she was forced to step off. Letting it snap back up behind her she sighed. And as she let out that sigh, her size grew to a more normal one.
Now a days she just did not have the energy to keep her smaller stature. Once the size change was complete, she tucked her legs beneath her and lowered herself to the ground. Wings flattening out against her sides covering up the bulging belly she had developed in such a short time. One might of thought that perhaps she had eaten just a bit too much and gained some serious weight.
But Roxanne new better. The trip to meet Nahuel's family would have to be put off just a little longer.

The light sound of the young stallion's humming carried through the cool morning air as Nahuel trotted happily through a snowy meadow, barely noticing the freezing winds that bit at his hide. In his jaw, he held the stems of two half-wilted daisies he'd found barely surviving the cold outside the cave he'd spent the night in- surely Roxanne would appreciate them.
A bright grin graced his maw as he quickened his pace, eager to meet his lady love once again- perhaps today was the day she'd agree to go meet his mother. He'd been looking forward to it for some time, but he hadn't pushed her, since she'd seemed uneasy about the prospect of meeting his family. He didn't quite understand why- but then again, he didn't understand a lot of things, so he'd supposed it was just best to let it go and wait for her to say she was ready.
A white, butterfly-winged form in the distance drew his cerulean gaze upwards, and his smile brightened as he broke into a canter. "Missus Roxanne!" his speech was slightly muffled as he spoke around the flower stems, careful not to crush them in his teeth.

The familiar call and name that Nahuel often used caught her attention instantly. Her head turned in his direction but she did not stand to greet him. A bit embarrassed of her portlier stature at that point and time.
Her tail tapped against the icy ground as she let a small, soft smile part her lips. A light whicker rumbling deep within her chest. "Nahuel..." She wanted to stand. The ground was cold, but she just felt too tired to put that much effort into it. And besides...he would see her bulging belly.
Not like he wouldn't see it eventually anyway. She had to get up sometime.
The sight of the wilted daisies made her smile even more. Where on earth had he even found those? It surprised and yet intrigued her even more.

His grin brightened even further, if that was possible, and he sped up his pace until he reached the flutter mare's side. He thought it was fairly strange that she was already in her larger form- usually, she preferred staying in her smaller one unless it was in his presence... but he didn't comment on it, instead meeting her gaze with a loving smile.
"Good morning!" He bent down to gently place the half-wilted daisies in her onyx mane, nuzzling her affectionately as he lowered himself to lay next to her. "Are you tired?" He also found it rather odd that she was laying down, or not in flight... or getting up to greet him... all of the sudden his expression turned to concern, worried about her well-being as he tried to warm her with his own body.
"You aren't sick, are you? What's the matter? Why are you laying down?" The words tumbled from his mouth as he became increasingly panicked, eyes going wide and trying to think of something he could do.

She adjusted her weight as he lay beside her. The slew of questions he presented to her one right after the other caused a confused look to wash across her face. Ears perking as he seemed to go into a panic.
That wasn't the reaction she was hoping for. But knowing Nahuel, he tended to blow certain things out of proportion.
Roxanne buried her face into his neck, taking in a deep sigh. "No, not sick per say. Maybe a little tired." Instantaneously, she drew back her wings till they nearly touched each other's backs. Letting him get a good view of her larger belly. "We're going to have some new lives coming very soon, Nahuel..."

His questions faded away and were replaced with a quiet sigh of relief as she nuzzled into his neck, turning her head to nose at her curly mane as he gave her a gentle smile. "I'm glad to hear that... I wasn't sure what I'd do if you got sick..."
His relief was short-lived, however, as she lifted her wing and revealed the last thing in the world he would have expected to see. His first thought was that she appeared to have gained a little weight... but the comment about 'new lives' sent warning bells going off in his head. She was... pregnant? With his foals? His eyes widened into saucers as he stuttered for the right words, unable to speak for a few moments in light of this momentous realization.
"I'm going to be... a father?" His voice was soft and full of wonder, staring intently at her bulging stomach. He was on the borderline of immaturity himself, at least in personality... was he really ready to be a father? A look at Roxanne's face put all his fears to rest, however, and his bright cerulean eyes began to fill with excitement rather than nervousness. "We're going to be parents..."

In the back of her mind, a resounding sigh of relief could be heard. Her wings lowered once again to cover her belly. "Yes..." She almost whispered.
Roxanne was excited. If not maybe a bit more than her mate. This would be a happy time.
But suddenly she realized something once again. The trip to meet his family.
A look of sadness soon appeared as she pulled her head back just a bit. "I'm afraid we're going to have to put the trip to see your family off just a little bit more. At least until they are born and can walk on their own."

He was a bit disappointed she wouldn't get to meet his mother for a while, but that was okay... he would take care of his mate and their foals, and that meant making sure she didn't strain herself doing anything. He rolled around the word 'foals' in his head, finding he liked the way it sounded. He was going to be a father.
Now suddenly ecstatic, Nahuel has to squelch the urge to get up and prance around in joy like a little foal, instead nuzzling her neck in fervored excitement. "We're going to have foals! Little Roxannes! And..." he trailed off at the thought of a little him running around, eyes widening again. One him was bad enough... but two? Or three? Or four?
"What if... what if they're like me?" His ears were down and he was starting to panic again. "What if I'm not ready to be a father? What if they hate me?" Heaven knows enough people found him annoying... even some of the soquili in his herd were not exactly fond of him. Would his own children find him annoying?

Frowning lightly, she nibbled on his ear tenderly. Her tail flopping back and forth on the ground until it whipped around his body like a reassuring arm.
"All the better. No one is ever ready to be a parent, I believe. And they will love you just as much as I do. Do not worry about that, love. I promise it'll all be alright. You'll see." She managed a weak smile, hoping that her words would sooth his worries. At that moment, she needed him to be as level headed as he could be.
If he got too frightened, who knew what would happen. The flutter had no clue if she could even fathom the possibilities. Nor could she fathom having to raise foals on her own.

Slowly, he took in her soft reassurances, and bit by bit he began to calm down. After a few moments, he felt that all was right with the world again, although a tiny bit of doubt still lingered in his heart- but it was heavily outweighed by joy and excitement. He leaned his head on hers for a moment with a gentle smile, nuzzling at her mane.
"Thank you, Roxy. What would I do without you?" He had asked that question before, and he was pretty sure neither of them had an answer. He shuddered to think of life without Roxanne... she was his light and hope. He'd never really needed a reason to live before, but she was definitely that and then some.
Too wrapped up in coming down from the initial stages of hysteria, he didn't even notice that he'd called her 'Roxy' rather than 'Missus Roxanne'.

Letting out a little giggle, she tucked her head under his chin. "I really don't know..." Her wings twitched suddenly as she felt a little kick to her side. They were really rambunctious and she wondered just how many there were growing inside of her.
"Then again, I don't know what I would do without you either Nahuel. Everything just seems to have changed for the better since that day we first met. Though I don't think I'll be riding in your mane again for a little while." She had caught onto his change of using her name, but said nothing of it. Her body relaxed against his as she listened to his breathing as it became lighter.
Good, he was calming down at least.

He looked down as he felt a slight movement from her side, his eyes widening again as he realized exactly what it was. "Was that... them?" He moved to place his muzzle against her swollen belly and felt another kick, a bright smile spreading across his features at the movement. "Our foals... our foals..." he could still scarcely believe it, and it showed through the wonder and incredulity in his voice.
He raised his head again to smile at her, rubbing his nose against hers tenderly. "You'll be able to again soon enough. I have a feeling that they won't tolerate being in there for too long." His eyes brightened again at the thought of fathering his own foals. Would they be girls? Or boys? Or maybe both... he imagined he'd like maybe one of each. A girl, just like her mother... and a boy, a perfect mix of the two of them. He still wasn't sure he wanted another him running around, but another Roxanne was very welcome in his life.
He pressed his forehead to hers gently and reiterated what he'd told her some time ago. "I love you."

"Well I hope not." She pouted playfully. "Not being able to fly too well isn't fun either." eying her belly with a scrutinizing glance, she let a small grin slip across her lips.
Roxanne herself had queried about the foals genders. But there was no certain way to know until they were born. Like a present that you have no clue what it is. Would any of them be flutters like herself? It would be nice to have at least one she could flutter about with. But it really didn't matter. She'd love them no matter what gender or breed they came out as.
She smiled even more and closed her bright blue eyes. Her cheeks feeling just a tad bit warmer and if not already they had a blushed hue to them, they certainly might of been darker. "I love you too." A small giggle bounced around inside of her as a thought came to her mind. "I wonder what your parents will say when we go to visit them and bring a gaggle of foals behind us."

"I can imagine not. I'd always thought of how nice it would be to be able to fly." That brought a new idea to his mind- would the foals have wings like their mother? While it was a nice idea- he'd always thought flutters were beautiful- he couldn't imagine he'd be able to chase them into the air if they decided to run away from him.
He grinned like an idiot at the thought of the trip to see his parents, expression brightening. "Momma will be ecstatic to have more foals to spoil, I'm sure. Dad... he'll probably tease me to no end about it." He wrinkled his nose at the thought, but didn't stop smiling. It was all in good fun- he was looking forward to seeing his whole family again.
He watched her blush with an affectionate grin, nuzzling her cheek again with a contented sigh. "I can hardly wait. I suppose we'll have to start thinking of names." He paused for a moment, considering something. "What would you rather have? A boy or a girl?"

"It is a humbling sight to fly and see the ground from the air. Though wind Soquili can fly much higher than us flutters." The thought of tiny flutter foals made her giggle inwardly. Once they learned the use of their wings there would be no catching them.
Nodding her head, her smile lightened. "I just hope its not too much of a shock for your parents. They probably aren't going to expect foals tagging along thats for sure." Roxanne was still a bit nervous, especially with having to bring foals along now. Perhaps if it were just her and Nahuel it would of been a bit easier. But her mate's words soothed her own worries momentarily.
Her eyes fluttered upwards, as if looking for an answer on her eyelids. "Names. Yes! Names. I had almost forgotten. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to think of names." An ear twitched at his question. "I have no preference as to gender. They could be all boys or all girls and I'd still love them all the same."
