-The excitement was KILLING her! Jahina, though of course always full of energy and spunk, was absolutely beaming today. She was going on her first hunt today. Ffinally her body had grown large enough to fit her ego, and finally the lioness' had relented to letting her join. Had she been more feminine she might have squealed at that moment, but a silent and tooth grin had done the task, showing her absolute joy.

Sure.. her eyes were really set on being a scout. But hunting experience was a step in the right direction wasn't it? Not to mention an achievement and acomplishment every lioness should have under her belt. She'd hunt for awhile, and when finally she did something truly amazing her mother.. or perhaps even the queen would BEG her to join the scouts. Ohhh yes. It was a tantilizing thought.

The day, however, was creeping by far too slowly and the young lioness fidgeted on wary paws as she waited at the family den. Soon, soon. She'd waited for months now, certainly a few more hours wouldn't kill her.-

He had watched in silence, hidden in the shadows of the massive hallow tree that made the family's den, a smile on his maw at his daughter's excitement. For Juhudi it was a bitter-sweet day, a day that mean his children were growing up, and as had been the case with his older children, the day had come far too soon. And yet it was also a day of joy, for nothing made a father more proud than to see his children happy.

"Excited for today?"

He spoke softly, stepping toward his daughter. As his pale gaze fell on tan pelt he noted how much she had grown. No longer the small cub who had enjoyed afternoon cubs, but a beautiful young lioness who would far too soon find her own place in the pride, in the world.

-Soft grey eyes danced back as the ever familar voice washed over her, her attention turning to her father. She may have inherited some of her mothers markings and attitude, but she'd began to notice lately how much of her father was in her as well. Their coloring, those same ivory socks. Perhaps it went even further then that too, something inside as well.

It was only a momentary glance however, before that fire burst forth once more as she piped up happily, breaking the short distance between them.- "SOOO excited!"

-Bumping her cheek against his shoulder in a soft half affection, she still seemed hesitant to sit. So instead she stood and fidgeted beside him, offering the 'comforting' words that had now become commonplace each time she set out to do something else mildly reckless or dangerous.- "I'll be really careful I promise."

"What do you think the hunt will be for today?"

The smile spread across his maw, a faint purr in his throat as he brushed against his daughter in fatherly affection. How he wished that moments like these would last forever, that he could keep his children forever at his side, to protect and comfort them always. But time would not wait, and soon they would be grown. The day fast approached when they would find their own paths, and he would always be there, waiting for the time they needed him.

"Keep that energy strong, and I know you will do well."

Seeing his daughter before the hunt, he was proud of how she had grown, of that fire she had always possessed. And yet, as a father, he could not help but worry for her safety, that fear that every parent shares always there. Predators must hut to survive, he had learned that as a young cub, yet the hunt was a dangerous task, always carrying the chance that prey turn on predator.

"I'm not sure, but the surprise is half the fun."

Though he smiled with encouragement, silently he hoped the chosen prey fell among the less dangerous herbivores of the savanah.

-She beamed, grin pulling wide at the soft reassurance, just as thrilled by the affectionate compliments and reassurance as she had been when she was but a cub. Oh how many times had she brought home some small tricket to mother and father, to show off how productive she had been. She wondered if she'd be able to do the same today? Something larger, with more prestige. A leg maybe.. Maybe they'd let her bring back a whole leg?

Her eyes danced over the idea before her attention turned once more to her father, nodding softly as the assessment.- "I suppose you're right. Since there are a few new hunters going out today, I'm sure they'll choose something good." -Her tail flicked with the idea, pondering over who else might be going as well. What other children around were old enough, or better yet, well enough equipped for their first hunt? Would there be more boys or girls? Her mind wandered again, eyes looking towards the sun. Oh how it hung so still, refusing to move time along.

Attempting to force the tension out of her legs, she growled once playfully, before bouncing up onto her hind legs, front paws coming to rest on the back of her father, teeth clamping to chew harmlessly at his darkly hued ears. A purr rattling through her chest she asked curiously, through slightly muffled 'chews'.- "When did you learn to hunt dad? Were you my age too?"

More than happy to join in the game, he raised a paw to playfully bat at his daughter. So full of energy as she had always been, perhaps even more than Shin, it was a trait they shared, Juhudi too had always been a cub at heart.

"I was younger than you are now, but I wasn't good at it until I was older."

His smile had faded, a trace of sadness that did not often touch his eyes. Unlike his children, Juhudi had grown up without his mother, the kind lioness who had given her life to save his when his was a young cub himself. At that young age he had learned to forage and scavenge for himself, eventually learning to hunt with the friends he had found, young orphans who had shared his fate.

It had turned into a happy life, one he knew the mother watching over him from the stars would be proud of. A happiness he hoped he would one day see with pride in his own children.

"Mmmm.." -A sound of soft acceptance was muffled as she continued to chew, trying to lean back enough not to get hit. While she might have insisted to know more on another occassion, find out why he got to learn when he was younger, she didn't ask catching that soft shift in his facial expression. Jahina didn't particularly like dealing with sad people, and with her father who was always so seemingly happy it was that more of a detourant.

Releasing his ear to instead try and capture his arm between her own forearms, she mused happily.- "Did you used to hunt with mom? Before she became a scout an all?"

-Having a family that was so intwined with the lands she often heard little anecdotes and snips of information about her parents and family. But nonetheless being rather egocenteric like most children she'd never heard long full accounts. To which she suddenly found herself interested.-

"Mm-hmm, I did. Though between you and me, I'm a much better hunter than she is."

His voice trailed into a whisper as if sharing a secret, a gentle teasing laughter in his words, though whether it was aimed at his daughter or his absent mate was perhaps a mystery that only he knew. The warm smile returned to his maw as he thought of all that had gone past. The day they'd first met, playful afternoons as childhood friends, a friendship that grew into love, watching their cubs grow, the roughly scrawled 'painting' at the top of the tree labeled 'turtle lion'. A soft chuckle escaped him as he thought of that, he was certain Mosi would have had words to say about that if she'd ever seen it.

The father turned, rearing onto his haunches to bat as his daughter with his free paw, his head lowered to nudge against her as if in a mock tackle. His tail flicked behind him, balancing his larger size lest he topple over. It made the older lion happy that his daughter still enjoyed their games, though she had grown and now sought her own path, these were the times they still shared. That was something he hoped would never change.

"Heh.. I bet she'd say otherwise!" -Jahina gained a mild look of surprise, that quickly melted into an amused smile and laugh as the secret touched her ears. Soft papa a better hunter then ever strong and cocky mother? Somehow she believed him though, perhaps it was all that practice he said he had.

Oh no! In a display of over dramatics Jahina fell backwards with the extra swings and nudges, her grip still on that one captured paw as she attempted to knock him over too, feet poising themselves to give a few mild kick kicks should he fall on her, as opposed to roll over her.

Slowly the day finally began to melt away as her mind and attention found solace in her company. Soon the battle would become all too real, though just as now, she somehow doubted much fear was necessary for it. Though it might be a fight to the death for the animal that they set their eyes on this afternoon, to Jahina it just seemed another playful dance in the wrestling matches and 'battles' of her life.-

"She might."

His balance already precarious, it didn't take much to pull the lion off his feet. Tumbling, his body turned, twisting to land on his side with a soft thud on the sandy earth. Laughter falling from his jaws, his hind legs reared to 'kick' at her, though his paws more likely to tickle. Then he had sprung to his feet again, a bound away from his daughter, then back again like a young cub suddenly seized with the energy of youth.

He as he had grown older, Juhudi had remained a cub at heart, always ready to jump into the game, an innocence that remained with him despite the age of fatherhood. It was a trait not likely to change, though time may continue on and gray may touch his mane. It was perhaps because of that trait that fatherhood had suited him so well. He was kind a gentle, always ready to enjoy a game or listen to the story, to comfort and protect.

"But then I'd just have to prove her wrong."

Subconsciously he may have looked around to be certain Mosi was not there listening, for had she heard she certainly would have said otherwise if only to tease him back. But it didn't really matter, this moment was theirs alone, a cherished time shared between father and daughter.
