Soaring out of the sky, Aureate landed in one of his old haunts, eyeing the place specutively. The grass had grown wild here... Far higher than he would have been able to tolerate as a foal... It would have swallowed him... With a few paws of his foreleg, he had a small area flattened, and stood there, remembering...
Here he had met one of his first and best friends... Nene, the black she-wolf who then had been unclaimed by human or Soquili.. Who had tolerated a winged foal's unceassing questions when she could have just eaten him and gotten it over with...
He missed her, greatly...
"Where are you now, Wise One?" He murmured. "And what would you think of the foal you used to know?"

 When he landed, two deer threw their heads up and bolted bleating in terror at the strange shape appearing before them. A savage snarl echoed from behind him " I hope you didn't value your life because you are about to loose it!" That snarl....it could only be one creature...

Pinning his wings to his back and spinning around in a tight, rearing turn, Aureate searched the glade with eager blue eyes. "Nene? NENE!"
His voice was joyous, ringing through the open air with pure notes. "Come out here you old rug! Is that anyway to greet a friend?"
He laughed, fanning his wings and turning his head this way and that, white mask flashing against all the black of his face. His gold tipped wings glittered like precious metals, making him truly a sight to behold.

Nene's jaw dropped as her green eyes widened. It..it couldn't be. Her little colt had disappeared one day and she hadn't been able to find him again much to her distress. Somehow the talktive little colt had stolen a piece of the grumpy wolf's heart.
"Aureate? Colt is that really you?" her tone was half fearful, half hopeful. Oh please don't let this be another cruel trick. Not that she would ever admit to even herself how much she had missed and worried about 'her' lost foal.

Dropping to his knees on the fore, Aureate wriggled his haunches like the playful foal he used to be, grinning like an idiot. He flared his wings open, laughing. "Indeed Old One! Come and greet your greatest admirer! Or do you not care for me anymore, now that I am grown?"
He pulled a mask of such incredible sadness, one would have laughed at the abrupt change. He had missed Nene terribly, but every time he tried to go back to the glade he'd met her in... Something had happened... Or she'd not been there...
And he'd eventually given up... But now that he could fly wherever he wished, he'd gone looking for the old wolf, half thinking of her as his familiar.

She hesitated for a moment before padding to his side, letting her green eyes search his face studying the changed in her young friend. Finally a soft smile came over her muzzle right before she nipped his nose roughly and began bellowing at him " How dare you worry me like that!! I searched for you for months and I couldn't find you!! I thought..." Her voice trailed off as she laid her ears back a whine catching in her throat " I thought I had lost you kid..."

Being down on his knees made it easier for her to bite him, and to yell, all of which he deserved. Flattening his ears back, Aureate took the scolding with good grace, knowing that the fact she was yelling proved she cared.
"I'm sorry Nene." He crooned as sweetly as he could, nuzzling her pleadingly. "I'm really really sorry.. I came back... But I could never find you... I didn't mean to be away so long... I missed you..."

"Oh colt..." Nene whined softly licking his nose as she nuzzled him. " I just....I thought I had let you down. I just knew something had hurt you when I was out hunting." She laid her ears flat back against her skull, closing her eyes remember the pain she felt that day. She had searched for him for hours when she returned and he was gone.

Settling his hind feet beneath him, Aureate lay down on the emerald grass, as being closer to the ground made it easier for him to talk to Nene face to face. Her worry and sadness was touching, and reminded him of his own fear when he -as a lost foal- had stumbled into the clearing he had met his bravest friend...
And she had not been there to protect him and tell him it was alright...
"I am sorry to have worried you... I didn't mean to." He sighed, glad for the small gestures of affection. "I just.. I wanted to let you know I'm alright now... And.. See if you still wanted to be friends..."
He smiled sheepishly. "Even if it is with a foolish colt -turned stallion- like me..."

Nene huffed faintly, no matter the species apparently all males were thick " Of course I do you idiot. You may have gotten bigger but you are still -my- silly colt." She rolled her eyes huffing faintly "Honestly feather head, like I would stop liking you just because you grew up. You still ask the most ridicules questions I swear!"

With a laugh that was purely music, he reached down and nipped gently at one of her ears, eyes all playful innocense. True enough he might ask foolish questions of the old wolf, but they were backed by affection.
Her colt? "I'm sure one day you'll find someone to follow around non-stop, Nene.. And then where will I be?"
He pretended to faint, swooning to one side, wing flung up over his face. "ABANDONED!"

She curled her lip in disguest "I think that cold air has sapped the little bit of brains you had to begin with." She scoffed at the idea of her bonding to anyone that wasn't him. " I swear featherhead, your questions have gotten stupider now that you are older."

"I have achieved the ultimate then." He replied, peeking through the long flight feathers and winking at her. "For if I remember corrently, I asked some very stupid questions as a foal. And I believe, you told me that, all too many times... Now that I have gotten even less intelligent, whatever will I do? Try to swim in the sea? Run in the air? I'm all but lost, nurse-wolf... You'll be stuck following me around everywhere, to be sure I do not get into trouble..."
He laughed again.

Nene snorted again shaking her head, but her smile was fond as she chuckled. " Remind me again why I spared you? You were a scrawny foal but would have made at lease one good meal. And I do not plan to nurse maid you the rest of my life. I have other brats to watch." She grumbled again then muttering about pushy stallions.

Wrapping a black and gold wing around the grumpy wolf, Aure made a soft whistle-sound of question. "There are others?" He sniffled, somewhat hurt. "I'm not the favorite anymore?"
Well, that certainly broke his little heart..
