And that's because I'm lazy ninja
Here's my current work in progress, a present for mah boyfriend. It's his D&D character, an Elven wizard (bit of a cliched subject matter, but I do so enjoy drawing pretty things xp )

Your line quality and coloring are enviable. I myself really struggle with getting that three dimensional feel when i color....but i'm not sure if it's mostly my lack of skill...or just the program i work with. I use photoshop, and find that i often get frustrated with the tools and the slowness of my computer to the point where i don't even feel like finishing.

my one gripe has got the be the lower arm, which seems more than just a little short to the point where it's a little distracting (i usually don't bother to comment if it's just a slight thing). I wondered if it was foreshortening, but neither the size of the hand nor treatment of the clothing really lead me to believe it is.

Yeah, I see what you mean about the arm. I've started fixing it:

I know what you mean about bad computers/programs. My household has two computers, but I only get to use the decent one about twice a week, so it's hard to get much art done. As for bad programs, most of my work is done in Painter Classic which is pretty basic; it doesn't even support proper layers D: But you learn to make do with what you get stuck with. I find Painter Classic a lot easier to get a three-dimensional feel than with Photoshop, even with the inconvience of no layers.

Oh, wow. :D

Your coloring is really great!

As was already mentioned the arm looks a tad short though (her right)

But other than that I like it. :3

I like the shading you've done on the face, it's really good. :D

Can't wait to see the finished project. :333

Her chin's crooked.

Draw a line straight down the middle of her face, through her nose, and see how it splits the chin. It's not even - it's like her face is made of clay and the bit of clay that makes her chin has been slid off to one side.

Ooh, i've always wanted to try painter classic, hopefully i can buy it or "find" it somewhere. I'd happily give up layers for more control of the colors and tools.

I'm really liking the angular folds in the robe and the way they contrast the softness of the face.

I like your site, Television. Nice and clean, I'd like one like that. I'd like to make an overall comment on how you're one of the few I've noticed who actually has stronger color skills than anatomy skills. Most people I know seem to be the other way around.

I know I already commented in this thread, but yeah.

The Iconoclast
Her chin's crooked.

It's nothing grossly noticable.

I'd like to see some more contouring with her clothing.

'Specially on her right arm (the aformentioned). It could hide the issues that others are noticing.

I dunno...Maybe some more upper torso action could balance out the arms as well.

You know...

Like how her arm's lifting up and her chest is tilted? Or something.

I can't draw.

What?

i don't mean to pick on this drawing, but the more i look the more i notice it and i should at least try to say something while you're still at a point where it's workable.

The other problem i had with the lowered arm is the pose of the hand. It seems rigid and not very natural. it's mostly where the thumb and fore finger appear to be held together, when i would think that when the hand is held that way, the thumb would spread apart from the hand like the rest of the fingers are spread. it would in that case also be foreshortened slightly and wouldn't come up as high on the fore finger.

changing it might help the pose look overall more graceful and natural. i think. maybe

*still impressed* e__e;;

Thanks for the comments, y'all!

Fixed up the arms a tad, but I've been staring at it for so long it's hard to tell if they're sufficiently lengthened. Gonk.

Also fixed up the chin somewhat - symmetry has never been a strong point of mine. You're right Icono, I never much fancied figure-drawing classes, colouring is really what I enjoy best.
Thanks for the comments on the site, too, I can design one for you if you want pirate

Page Boy: Painter Classic comes bundled free with Wacom tablets, just something to think about next time you buy a tablet. And if you're a student Corel does a really nice discount for students on the full version of Painter, I'm going to be looking into it myself next Christmas ^_~

As for the hand, I can see what you mean, but a) I'm way lazy, and b) it's going to get covered by some cheezy spell effect anyway. xd : If it looks totally crap once it's finished I'll probably redraw it though.

What?: I'm hoping the copious amounts of hair is going to hide the weakness around the chest area. ninja

Anywho, here's what I'm up to now, just a background and a few small details to add before I'm finished:

Yes, she is meant to look like she's floating in midair wink

I'm thinking of some big, rustic-looking stone doors in the background. Any suggestions?
