I don't know if it's happened to you or not but...
Scenario:
You take out your book, start reading... getting lost in your own little world or literary sphere. o.O And then that one person comes and asks in a really annoying voice, "Hey, what's that you're reading?" Or... "What's it about?"
Ever get bugged while reading...? I do -.- I'm a senior in HS but in a mixed class with freshmen too. So I get these 14-15 year old girls popping by going, "Like what're you reading?? Is it good?" Or they simply start chattering TOO loud in the background with their friends... and you lose concentration sweatdrop
Discuss... interruptions and nuissances (sp?) in your reading time x3

I find eventually the chatter dies away, but it takes more concentration. Gyms however, are almost impossible to read in, worse than crowded lunch rooms.

I used to have that prolem when I was in high school, but once I perfected the "I hate you, go away and let me read" glare, it stoppe within a few days.
Then there was the gym teacher who told me that it was impossible to read while walking a mile. Not only did I do it, but my time while reading was quicker than not.

Does it count when your cat jumps on your lap and refuses to get her head off the book? Or when you husband grabs the book out of your hand to get your attention?

Try as I might to imploy selective hearing... it just never works.

I usualy don't have trouble with classes, teachers know that I read quickly and inbetween chapters it helps me focus on classwork ( my english teacher loves me for this ) It's when I get home, go right up to my room, read two sentances, my mom screams at me to do somthing, I do, run back upstairs read the same two sentances, then she calls me again to do another chore, I do, run back upstairs and read the same sentances. The process repets itself untill I basicly loose intrest in what I was reading, or blow up at her and get grounded.... Its so DIFFICULT! ARRRG! I can't wait untill I move out!

People attempt to distract me a lot while I'm reading, but it never works. I've developed amazing tuning out skills. Once, when I was in middle school, someone was yelling extremely close to my ear, and I didn't even notice.

Just today, I was reading in lunch. My one friend had apparently been whispering creepy things to me, very close to my ear for a few minutes. I looked up and asked, "May I help you?" A few of my friends were giggling about it. Ah, the powers of tuning out.

A few of my friends were giggling about it. Ah, the powers of tuning out. Alas, I've lost some of that skill. Ever since I had children, the sound of a crying baby yanks me right out of book, even though I know it's not my own. (Though I can still tune out the husband and older children quite well twisted )
