After the odd talk with Mafa, Tukutu had made sure to stick around, but even a bigger deal, was that he was trying to socialize a bit more. It was difficult for such a hyena as himself, as he really didn't care about anyone else, but he could...at least sort of pretend that he cared about the other pack members.
Of course, he could only take it in certain doses, and he was trying to make his escape right now. It seemed much harder when Mabozi was around, as he never ever could keep his mouth shut. Hopefully he could go find a nice soft spot to take a nap, but sometimes you never really got what you wanted in things.
The hyena had been unable, so far, to find himself a new den, and so he would sleep wherever he found a good spot. Today that good spot was quite elusive, though, and he was ready to just give up and go find the watering hole to get a good drink. The dryness of the graveyard was easy to get used to, except for the fact that you had to travel for a bit just to get water.
His ears perked up whe he heard the sound of someone walking. Was it a fellow packmate? Probably, since there were just so damn many of them, they were nearly impossible to escape.

Kisiri had been floating about the Graveyard, meeting more pack-members, trying to forge a few friends or relationships, so that when she found Mafa, she'd have a few allies, a few good references. In truth, her youth made her feel nervous. Mafa was THE authority figure and whilst maybe they could have been the same age, that authority made Mafa scary.
So, how better to smooth over the transition into pack life than to start some duties? She'd gleaned a few bits of information from others, and from watching others and took to patrolling the territory first.
A hyena!
Kisiri approached tentatively, ready to greet them as a pack-member with the respect they deserved, or ready to interrogate as an intruder.
"Greetings," she said.

Tukutu's ears swiveled around as they located the direction of the greeting. His eyes soon found the hyena in question, and he gave a grunt. Ugh, another stranger? Or...were they just a stranger to him, and they had become a pack member while he was gone? The latter seemed more of a possibility, so he just assumed that they had crossed paths.
He threw a nod of acknowledgement at her. "Aye, 'ello dere," he said in a grumpy tone. Well, if he was going to do what Mafa probably wanted him to do, he needed to get more familiar with the pack members, and make sure that everything was well. The last thing that they needed was for a surprise lion attack, and the hyenas not trust each other enough to drive back their enemies. Just the thought nearly made him shiver.
"C'n ah ask what yer doin' rite now?" he called, hoping to strike up some sort of conversation. Even if it was short.

This one sounded like another old-timer, like Kimwondo from a few nights previous. But he was much darker in pelt, quite like the image of a 'graveyard hyena' she had always thought of. The difference between them, her dusty gold and brown and his dark grey, felt even more stark in a place of white and black.
"I'm...patrolling...watching the horizon's for approach," she tried to say with confidence, but in truth, knew nothing of the position she was practising for. She wondered that if he knew the truth, that she wasn't a member yet, would he attack her?
Kisiri became a little stiff.

"'Trollin', eh?" he replied, glancing around with his green eyes. Well, at least they were near the border. Lucky for her that he didn't know all of the members of the pack, so if they seemed to be members, he would assume so.
"Ah, so ya got Rasuli bossin' ye 'round, eh? Dun mind 'im, 'e think's 'e is hot stuff, that stupid oaf." It was obvious that Tukutu was still bitter about it all, the whole litter thing, and the production of an heir. Strange though, that he hadn't seen Mafa with the little girl runt, though. Whatever, maybe she was hiding her away, making her just into what she wanted. Another strong, bossy, obnoxious female.
"Jus' do whatcher doin' 'n everything'll be good. Ah'm takin' a guess that yer new 'round here, since yer so tense."

Kisiri still looked nervy and edgy, afraid to answer him almost. But he seemed nice enough, and maybe if he thought her simply as a new member, her cover would not be blown.
"Yeah, I am a little new here...heh...its that obvious I suppose. I'm used to the plains really, being here is a little nerve-wracking. But I came for the pack," she uttered meekly, trying to put on a front of 'naive little girl with a good heart'.
A hyena of many-faces was Kisiri.

Tukutu grunted. "A little obvious, but eet's okay. Ye'll do fine, jus' make sure ye listen to Mafa's words."
He looked over the new recruit, though, mainly because he couldn't help it. He did care about the pack, even if outwardly it didn't appear so. It was an extension of Mafa, so he would care. He felt like he had to, or else he was lying to himself. He nodded here or there, couldn't find anything really to complain about. At least she wasn't a whelp of a pup tryin' to just scrap around for meals, and she actually wanted to work!
"Mind, though, if ya come 'cross some lions, make sure ta just let otha's know. Wouldn't want ya killin' yerself over nuthin, now."

"Oh no, I'd say I was brave...but I'm not stupid," she replied with a smile.
She knew from experience what lions could do. She'd only just narrowly escaped the teeth of a particularly tetchy lion, and had unfortunately seen others torn to bits. It was a harrowing memory, but as always, as part of her self-defence mechanism, she hid it away and used yet another face to cover it up.
She shuddered momentarily though.
"Is there anything else I should know? Anything to prepare myself for?"

"Aaah." Tukutu stared at the brown hyena for a while. He....didn't know what her position on lions was, but as long as she didn't mention something about liking lions, she would fit in just fine.
"Naah, not really," he shrugged. "Jus' the obvious. Listen ta yer Alpha, really, 'n just stay outta 'er way. 'M sure that she'll tell ya what to do sometimes. Other times she might jus' rough ya up a bit, dun' get too scared. If'n ya got any problems, jus' find me, maybe." It was odd for him to extend a paw for assistance, but hey, he knew how Mafa was, and if she wasn't carefully sometimes, she'd lose some of her pack members from being a bit too rough, in his opinion.
"Oh, wait," he added on. "Jus' make sure that ye remember where tha waterin' 'ole is. We don't have much, and if'n ya see someone not of the pack at it, chase 'em off. 's all we got."

It was visible on Kisiri's face that she was mentally taking note, and surprisingly, she didn't appear too frightened by it all. She knew the duties would be big, would be important. But, how would she fare if Mafa decided she didn't like her presence anymore? And what if Mafa could see right through her? Kisiri had spent such a long time now using one of many faces she had - innocent lost pup, strong warrior, wise traveller - that she wasn't sure how her real self would cope.
She took a deep breath and concentrated on the watering hole.
"Aye, consider it guarded," she beamed at him.

"A'ight," he replied with a nod. Everything seemed sorted out here, and hopefully there wouldn't be any trouble. It had been awfully quiet lately on the borders of the graveyard, only disturbed by a curious lion now and then. Small matters such as that were handled quickly, if only because of the sheer number of hyenas that lived here. Tuk wasn't an idiot, though; they had many many less numbers than say, the Pridelands. But they were larger then their rivals, the Maziko, and so they would be able to take good care of themselves now.
"Keep to it, then. See ya 'round, girl," he mentioned, giving a shrug before he motioned to leave. He gave her one more chance to say anything before he's return back to the heart of the packlands.

Kisiri nodded to her superior and watched as he left, feeling a greater sense of confidence about her place here now. Hopefully, the alpha would see her usefulness and eagerness too. She bid farewell to Tukutu with a low growl-bark and then stumbled back down to flatter grounds and tore off towards the oasis to continue her duties.
