Fatia was starting to feel a bit better lately. She hadn't bee asked to do much, but she also had been able to keep herself out of trouble. The one drawback was that she wasn't able to see her sibilings very much, so romping around, 'looking busy' was getting lonely really quickly.

She had met that one really nice lioness, Saburi, but she knew better than to look for more nice ones that liked slaves. Well, liked them in a different way. She still didn't quite understand why it was so bad, though, because she really didn't know what freedom was like. She was alright being told what to do, the only thing that she did not like was the punishments that came swiftly, and harsly.

She stumbled through the sand, the head of the day actually hurting her paws a bit. Not enough to burn them, for they had been burned enough that some of the nerves were gone, but enough that she didn't want to stick in one spot for too long.

Gehenda had a big family to contend with. For food, for attention, even for play at some times. He almost felt shameful to say it but some of his siblings genuinely made him uncomfortable.

But he didn't know why. Did that make him a bad brother? A bad Firekin? They were all taught the same things, the same ideals. Everything. So why did he feel differently about it compared to his siblings?

Still young, it was a bit of a risk to be wandering alone, but the one thing he knew about this pride was that any Firekin child could wander about safely. A slave child however...well, he'd not seen one yet. Did they look really different?

Gehenda was ambling along the sands, sinking his paws in and swooshing them back out as he walked to create sandy vapours. He hummed randomly, trying to string together anything that might be a melody or a tune. It wasn't working. It was because he was so engrossed in his game that he almost missed Fatia. She was already very pale and sandy coloured, almost melting into the sprawling landscape. He stopped dead in his tracks and tried to pick out the movement, and if it weren't for the few black marks, he'd have thought he was seeing things.

Curious, he toddled over, forgetting his game and slid about in the sands until he reached Fatia.

"Hello," he greeted cheerfully.

"Hm?"

Her ears swiveled forward before she popped her head up, nearly falling backwards as she noticed that it was a cub. Being small herself, she wasn't much bigger than him, but the red pelt sent a shiver down her spine. After meeting with that one nice lioness, though, she took a chance, hoping that maybe this cub would be nice, too. Plus, he was just a cub, so then hopefully he wouldn't be mean...yet?

"H-hello," she said nervously, giving him a quick bow, and making sure to not give him eyecontact with his golden eyes. "C-can I help you, sir?" she chirped. Maybe if she did something for him really quick, she wouldn't get into any trouble at all. Though the sand would slow anyone down, especially a nervous little slave.

"Sir? I'm not an old lion, you don'hafta call me that," he smiled back at her, quite oblivious to her lifestyle-induced nervous disposition. "I'm Gehenda."

It'd be fair to say his youth probably made him a bit ignorant, since he knew no better. This was the first time he'd met a slave afterall. He actually had lots of questions for her, and knew nothing about being polite.

"Are you a slave then? You look different. Do you have any brothers and sisters? I have a LOT of brothers and sisters. I'm the only one with my eyes though. Do you all look the same? Do you have a mommy and daddy? Do you ever get lost in the sand when you look like that...?"

Fatia mind reeled at all of the questions. It was enough to make her feel horribly overhwelmed. Her body wayed a bit before she caught herself. Oh no! She'd better be a good girl so she wouldn't get in any trouble. She really didn't want trouble.

"Umm," she started, not...really knowing where to start. Why did he want to know so much? But Fatia shouldn't question the kin, not at all. They were all her masters, in a way, and if she wanted to stay out of trouble she would do as she was asked. Which was to talk (strangely enough).

"Fatia is a slave, yes," she started, speaking slowly, and a bit weakly. "I have some, yeah. I don't know what they're doing right now, though, I really don't." She took a breath. "We kinda look the same, tan and black. Ure just has black and white though, so maybe not..." her voice trailed off for a second.

She shifted uncomfortably about the term 'mommy and daddy'. She still didn't understand just what those were. "I don't, no. Never had parents," she replied, if a bit more strongly than her other answers. "And I haven't gotten lost, but Master Uzulu sometimes doesn't notice I'm there..."

Once again, Gehenda's young mind did him no favours here. He would not have questioned her so vehemently if he knew it was a struggle for her. He watched her intently as she answered bit by bit. And so he came to reply, bit by bit.

"No mommy and daddy? You can have mine if you want. I like them, but they say..." and he paused for a moment, not sure how to articulate words. "They say mean things about other lions, about ro-guhs. What are ro-guhs? Are they like slaves too? And what do you have to do? And whats a Mass-ta Uzulu?"

"It's Master Uzulu," she reinforced. "He owns me, as does one of his sons." While she didn't like him, she knew better than to say anything too terribly bad against him, or she might not live to see another sun rise. "And I don't think I'd want your mommy and daddy....I don't think they'd be nice to me." She stretched out her limb to the other one. "It's my colour, I think." Well, she hadn't seen any slaves that were red, and most of them were her colour, or that blue colour she sort of saw once in a while...

"Rogues?" She had heard the term, but wasn't familiar with it. "I dunno. Maybe they're the bad guys? It doesn't sound like a nice word...."

"He owns you...can I own you too? What does 'own' mean?"

The questions began again. He did jump a little as she stretched out her front legs though, as he wasn't quite expecting it. He wasn't embarrassed though, he was just as eager as ever, and even made to pounce Fatia! He was younger than she though, she probably knew how to avoid a pounce, or fight back.

"Colour? Why...why is your colour bad? I like it. You can hide in the sand! I can't..." he pouted, and then demonstrated by crouching low to the sandy ground. "See?"

His demeanour changed a little at the further debate of the rogues. Even if he was curious about them, he knew the word 'bad' very well.

"Bad guys...?" he semi-growled. "Then they can stay away."

"Eek!" Fatia stumbled backwards as she saw the cub pounce at her. While she knew that he was a bit younger than her, she wasn't very strong, and didn't know why he was doing that. She tripped on her tail and rolled onto her back, looking up at Gehenda.

"Master Uzulu would be mad if you owned me. Because then he wouldn't own me anymore...." she wished it was true, but then she wouldn't see her family anymore, either. It was bad in both ways she looked at it.

Why did he ask so many questions? Did he not know anything? She just didn't want to get in trouble for telling him things that might not be the truth....she couldn't help it if she didn't know everything that was going on, she only gathered bits that she overheard when doing whatever she was told to do. "Ummm, because the kin are red," she answered his second question. She had learned to fear the colour red. "And that means you're higher than us."

Staying away was something that Fatia thought about, but towards the kin that were mean to her. At least...this boy wasn't too mean, if a bit weird. She had to keep her guard up, just in case.

"Higher than you?" he cocked his head to the side. "Well I am now," he said as was stood beside her. "But now I'm not!"

He chuckled in glee as he sank to his belly to appear on the same level as Fatia. She was fun! Gehenda liked to play, he liked innocent play. His siblings sometimes got a bit rough and though he loved to play rough as well, it was always nice to try something new. He was still young though and had a lot to be taught and beaten out of him.

"What are you doing today? Can I come? I like you."

Fatia stared at him for a moment, her brown eyes a bit wide, her black ears facing the little kin member. For a moment, she was quiet, but she soon broke out into a small giggle. He was higher then her there, yes! She didn't know if he really understood it, but knew it wasn't quite her place to prove that. She would just keep her head low and he would learn in time what that meant.

"Doing? I'm not doing anything today," she said, her voice a bit raspy. "Please don't tell anyone that, though, I don't want to get in trouble. Master Kai nor Master Uzulu have told me to do anything today. I just don't want to stick around, just in case Master Uzulu's angry paw finds me." She hated the pain, the little amount she got. Tanana usually took the blows, but she couldn't always be there, every moment.

"Oh good, you can play with me," he beamed at her, still oblivious to her discomfort. He would later learn the penalties for his choice in friends.

"Or or or! We could just keep walking through the sand for a bit, or go sit in the rocks. Its nice and cool there and there's sometimes little green things or fluffy things to chase and catch."

Fatia's ear flicked, as she was a bit confused. She watched him carefully with her eyes, but she couldn't help but relax and start trusting him. He was nice, wasn't he? Over and over he was nice, so he must be someone she could trust.

"Well....I don't mind, where do you want to go? It's up to you," she said with a bob of her head. If he wanted to go somewhere, she'd listen. It was turning automatic though the little girl hadn't realized it quite yet.

"We'll go to the rocks for a bit then, they're not too far from hom so I can still hear my mum or dad if they call for me," he suggested with a very conscientious tone. He didn't like to think he was upsetting his parents. Oh the irony.

He began to toddle off in front of her, revealing even more about his young age. He was certainly very exuberant though, as most cubs should be. He was happy to have a new playmate. At least for now.

But playtime was cut short, for not long after Gehenda had talked of his parent's calls, there came one. He huffed and sighed, and bid farewell to Fatia, still oblivious to her status within the pride and thusly how he should have treated her. It was perhaps a blessing then that the opportunity to tell his family about his friend never came up at the dinner table.
