why do some markers have air filters right next to the tank, when others have them touching the air line held in with an o-ring?

Air filters? Could you find a picture or be a little more descriptive please? I'm sorry but i've never heard of an air filter. Closest thing i've heard of are teh anti-syphon tubes which don't work worth a damn.

I'll have one of the vs1's manual.

but until then, the filter is usually between the air line(hose)
and the air adapter/drop forward.

huh... never seen that before nor have i heard about it. I'd imaging its to keep liquid CO2 out of the marker if thats what you're running and also to keep dirt and such out of your macro line.
