Danuwa stood watch over his baskets as Dinilawi went out to graze. He heaved a large sigh, he loved his baskets, but they weren't much for conversation.

He began to preen his wings as he waited not knowing just how long it would take Dinilawi to get back he figured he would occupy himself for the moment.

Harlequin had wandered off yet again from where she grew up even though she knew it was dangerous. She had simply wandered off as she watched her surroundings. She was lost in her own mind, trying to discern whether jokes were lie, insults, or what she had been brought up to believe; jokes. it was while lost in thought an odd shade of green caught her eye. She paused, took a few steps backwards to where she saw the green, and actually focused on it.

It was a soquili with wings, and a familiar one at that. With a modest smile Harlequin ambled up to the stallion. "Why do you look so sad?" He said to the stallion playfully.

Danuwa blinked for a moment the voice was familiar. He lifted his head and saw a blurry full grown mare he didn't remember and yet the colors seemed.....it was the foal from before.

"Harelequin? Is that you? My you have grown in such a short time it seems. Were you really a foal when I met you little lady, or is my eye sight getting worse?" Danuwa laughed loud and fluttered his wings.

"Come here Little lady and see. Dinilawi did come back and my baskets are finally here." Danuwa turned back to the baskets and nudged them both gently. "Aren't they wonderful?"

"Yep! I was just a filly when i saw you last!" At the invitation Harlequin hopped her way over to Danuwa. She was excited to see his babies that she had been unable to see before, but when she reached him she saw no babies, only baskets. She furrowed her brow, did a complete circle of Danuwa, and still did not find any fillies or foals. She turned her attention to the baskets, smiles, and gave a nod. "The baskets are quite nice, beautiful in fact, but I thought you said before that your mare had your babies. Did she keep them?" She asked, still blissfully unaware of what happened when a mare gave birth.

Danuwa watched her circle him and wondered if something was wrong. When he heard her speak again he stood silent for a moment then laughed, he had been trying not to, but it amused him for some reason.

"Oh little lady, I'm sorry for laughing it's just that my parents told me early on about......well about the birds and the bees. When foals are first born they are weak and need extra protection so they are put in baskets from the two leggers. The baskets hold my children in other words, but the colors on the basket are the same as the colors on my foals."

"Oh!" Harlequin felt stupid for not knowing that. She would have to ask Daddy about the birds and the bees since she didn't know what Danuwa was talking about on that subject either. She didnt want to seem too ignorant.

"Well, in that case your babies must beautiful! Did you see the two leggers put your babies in the baskets? Do you know if you have sons or daughters or both? Is it okay to touch them?" She hadn't meant to start rambling off questions as she slowly and steadily inched her way closer to the two baskets, her curiosity running wild. She wanted to peek inside the baskets, but she thought better of it.

Danuwa chuckled a bit, but wasn't bothered by her questions. "I'm afraid I can't see much detail little lady. I'm almost blind, I can see shapes and colors, but everything is blurry. It seems to run in my fathers side of the family he was blind, I'm half blind so I hope my foals can see clearly." His weight shifted he hadn't thought about it till then, but there could still be a slim chance that if he had a son he could be part blind.

"Dinilawi might know, but then again she might not, she had just given birth and was in no state to watch the two leggers. Its not ok to touch them though, believe me I really want too, but soon they will be ready to come out. You can talk to them though." Danuwa leaned down near one of the baskets and spoke in a soft voice.

"Hello my little one."

A small squeak came from the brown and white basket and it wiggled. Slowly the basket managed to wiggle close enough to bump into Danuwa's nose.

"Why don't you talk to it, little lady? The foal will remember your voice when it comes out." Danuwa nudged the basket gently back into the little bedding he had made for them.

Hmm... Giving birth... She would have to ask her dad about that one as well. Harlequin gave a small fan girl squeal as she saw the basket wiggle. "Oh how cute!!" Then, without poise, she plopped herself down on the ground and inched her way up to the basket. "Hello little one! My name is Quin. I cant wait till you come out to play." She whispered to the basket that Danuwa had spoken to. "By the way, when you do come out... Tag!" She poked the basket softly. "You're it!"

Harlequin couldn't help but smile as she looked up at Danuwa. "I'm sure when they come out they will be able to see clearly. And if you cant see them clearly when they come out of the baskets then I'll tell you what they look like." It was more of a joke than anything, Quin's attempt at lightening the subject a bit, but she meant it.

Danuwa watched her colors move close to the baskets. His heart was very proud of his foals and he enjoyed watching someone as excited about them as he was.

The basket was silent for a moment as it took in the new voice. It wasn't mother or father, but it sounded fun. The basket squeaked and slowly wiggled closer to Quin.

Danuwa grinned and nodded his head at what Quin saidm
"I would like that. I think it likes you, perhaps you could babysit one day." Danuwa was sure Dinilawi would describe the foals first, but then again Dinilawi was unpredictable.

Did he just say what she thought he said? Who on earth would do such a horrible thing?! "Did they do something that made you mad? Why would you want me to sit on them?" Quin asked timidly of her friend.

She nuzzled the little basket with her nose gently. "I wont sit on you, I promise..." Quin whispered softly and reassuringly. She didn't know for sure, but she knew what death was, and she believed ti would come swiftly to anyone other than a grown up if she sat on them.

"You are joking, right?" She asked softly of Danuwa.

Danuwa laughed again Quin was so cute in her innocence.
"Your parents haven't taught you much have they?" Danuwa chuckled a bit more and when he calmed he spoke again.

"Babysitting means to watch over them, to take care of them when the mother and father need a break or need to do something."

Danuwa wondered just how little Quin knew, were her parents the type that refused to notice she had grown up. If so Danuwa knew her pain, his father had been way over protective.

The basket sat quite as she whispered, but bumped into Quin's nose after a moment and squeaked loudly.

"Mommy isn't around much, and Daddy's cheeks get red every time I ask him about stuff. He really blushed, that's what he called his cheeks getting red, when I asked him how Mommy and he got me and my brother." She paused for a moment, remembering the awkwardness of that day, with Daddy being weird an all. "He said we were gifts from Heaven."

Harlequin jumped a little at the Baskets loud squeak and bump. She had only been expecting a normal squeak. "Does that mean you want me to babysit you?" Harlequin asked the basket after Danuwa explained it to her. Quin smiled with great enthusiasm at Danuwa. "If the little one wants me to watch ovet it I would love to!"

"I wonder if I will have the same problem with my childeren, I feel comfortable talking to you, but it won't be the same for my foals I believe."

Danuwa watched Harlequins and his baskets blurred form for a moment and smile, but something was up. His ears twitched as he nosed the basket. Before ploping down beside Harlequin.

"I think its time! I think its ready to come out. Come on your daddy and your Auntie Harlequin are here ready for you."

The basket began to shake more rocking back and forth.
Suddenly the lid lifted slightly and small eyes glowed in the darkness staring at Harlequin and Danuwa. It squeaked loudly before throwing the lid off her head.

"Hewwo!"

Harlequin squealed in delight. "I'll take that as a yes! Oh my goodness it is so cute!" Harlequin stood for a moment to peer better into the basket to see what the foal was and what it looked like. "It's a girl Danuwa... I think... She looks like a girl." Harlequin made her way back to Danuwa and plopped down once more so she could be eye to the filly.

Quin bumped shoulders with Danuwa. "Can you see her?"

Danuwa sighed he saw her, sort of. "I can see a small shape with brown and red and some blue." Even in this joyous moment he felt sad that he couldn't see his own foal clearly, what it must have been like for his father. He nuzzled the little foal trying to take in more of her looks by touch.

After her father finished nuzzling her she leaned forwards making her basket tip her out. She fell in front of Harlequin and let out a cry she had bumped her head a bit and it had frightened her. Her Ice tail twinkled in the snow light as she cried.

"Oh there there little one. Your not hurt." The twinkling caught Danuwa's eyes. "Why is her tail sparkling?"
