Battlefield Selection:
The Fire Field!
The crowd screams as the battlefield spinner lands on a little-used terrain. The Fire Field. A giant pool of hot lava is brought in to cover the surface of the field. Rock pillars at varying heights jut out from the lava, but most are very hot to the touch. The air around the entire battlefield is thick and heavy from the heat of the lava. There is a thick fire-proof net above the lava, but the temperature near the lava is hot enough to scorch.

Jackie stood carefully on the rock pillar. She wouldn't be able to move from this spot until the end of the battle. Rubbing the edge of Ferrum's pokeball for luck, she prepared to launch it across to the nearest rock pillar, a bit away. "Alright, Ferrum! Let's go!" But inside, Jackie was worried. Many of Ferrum's moves were based on speed, and she couldn't pick up much speed on these rock pillars. Then again, their opponent would have to rest on the pillars sometime. The air was way too heavy to fly in forever.
Ferrum barked out a surprised note as she burst from her pokeball. It was very hot, and she balanced on a spot very close to the edge. At least she was on solid rock - her only comfort. She roared a challenge to her opponent.
"KRAAAW - DOS!"

Rin sighed, pressing her circular shades closer to her eyes, Sybille perched on her shoulder. For some reason Sybille hated being in that ball. Rin didn't blame the Swablu. Being confined to a small ball would be torturous to her. Rin twirled a strand of her hair, looking toward the two in boredom. Hopefully she could get an exciting battle.
Sybille took her position off Rin's shoulder as soon as the Cranidos made it's roar. It was soon time to begin.

As the Stadium randomizer decided that she would start the battle Rin smiled and looked at Sybille as she elevated into the air. Rin took a good look at the battle field. The Cranidos was stuck on the land, right below that lava. That meant she had a good chance at taking it down.
"Okay, Sybille, start with Fury Attack!" She stated, pointing right at the Cranidos's back, knowing full well how hard it's forehead was.

Perring into the bright stadium lights, Ferrum shuffled her feet as she prepared to jump away from the incoming Swablu. Hold on - Too late! The next thing Ferrum knew, the Swablu had hit him square on her right side, and her other side was being burned by the hot rock! Hopping back onto her talons, she snarled in defiance.
Jackie hopped on the rock she stood on, her sneakers already beginning to feel the heat of the lava. "Tactics!" she shouted, as Ferrum jumped back to her feet. "Don't look up if the lights will blind you! But for now... Try a Shockwave!" Electric attacks hurt the flying types, Jackie recited. Her basic training had taught her well.
Ferrum bunched her legs for a jump, and catapulted to another pillar. This one was a bit taller than the rest, and she could see where the Swablu was flying now. Concentrating, her eyes glowed yellow as a wave of electricity was unleashed!

Rin felt some of the flare from the rocks but didn't really mind it. Her feet were usually cold anyway so it was almost relaxing. Watching the shockwave breeze by Sybille's wing as did damage- but luckily nothing critical - to the Swablu. She had to remain calm though. Otherwise her demeanor would frighten the Swablu.
Sybille continued to circle around continuously over the Cranidos, trying to confuse it slightly, as she thought of an attack. Her peripheral vision saw Rin twirling a strand of her hair again, giving off their special signals.
The Swablu looked away from her trainer and looked down at the Cranidos again. After circling for a while she quickly hovered over her opponent's back and then started down towards their back again, launching a Take Down.

"Good hit, Ferrum!" Jackie shouted over the bubbling lava. "Keep it up!" It didn't look like much damage, but she had to keep Ferrum's confidence up. But then again, neither was the Swablu's latest attack. "Try another Shockwave, at least until it has to stay down from the air!!"
Miserable ball of feathers. Ferrum concentrated on the electrical energy again, sending it out in beams instead of one weak wave.

Sybille quickly took note as the Cranidos started to charge up, it's forehead illuminating quite brightly. As soon as the Take Down hit it's back the Swablu quickly flew up into the sky, the shockwave being launched right behind her back. It was close but through careful maneuvering she was able to dodge the sharp bolts of lightning.
"Good job Sybille." Rin praised, the shockwave illuminating the field. "Don't stop now. Use Peck to get them off their guard!"
Sybille smirked at the command, but this time decided to experiment a little. She quickly started down for the Cranidos, aiming the peck attack at her opponent's face. It was sure to leave a scratch.

Ferrum was a bit shaken from the missed lightning attack, but forced herself to pull together. She waited for the bird to begin its dive.
Excellent. Jackie smirked. They had practiced this move dozens of times - the perfect defense for an aerial attack. The sweat on her brow began to cool.
Ferrum kept the bird in her eye, carefully measuring the attack. She dug her talons into the dirt, and just on the point of impact, thrust forward with an intensely strong Head Smash.

Rin flinched, if not slightly at the Head Smash. She had completely forgotten about that no good head gear the Cranidos sported on it's head. That's what she got for being too damn cocky about the situation.
Sybille was completely knocked back by the attack, but managed to keep airborne at the most. Nothing too critical luckily. Looking at Rin she noticed that her trainer made no reaction to the hit. Rin was obviously trying to keep stolid for her sake. The Swablu sighed, deciding to take matters into her own hands for now. She quickly flew into the air, hiding herself as much as possible and then slowly lowering herself, so that she was hovering directly behind the Cranidos.
Now or never. Sybille thought, as she started to furiously flap her wings, gaining some wind energy and started straight for the Cranidos. She had to deliver a good Astonish attack.
As it was the only way to get the opponent off that perch!

"Ferrum! Behind you!" Jackie shouted, stepping ever closer to the edge of her perch. But it was already too late. "No!"
Ferrum glanced back just as the fearsome bird shrieked behind her. Crap! Ferrum's strong legs sprang, and she realized only too late that she had jumped into nothingness. It was getting hot, hot, hotter as she fell! She landed on the fireproof net, bounced back up, and clung to the side of yet another rock pillar. As she scrambled up the side, she growled at the burning pain on her back, but mostly at herself. Stupid! That bird tricked you!
Finally reaching the top of the low pillar, Ferrum sniffed the air. It was lower than most of the pillars, and not far from the lava. The air was thick and unpredictable. Ferrum started to crow as loud as she could, shaking her tail and flapping her arms in a comic imitation of the cowardly Swablu. "K-K-Kraaw-Dos!" she called. As soon as it gets close enough - Crunch goes the birdie!
Ferrum waggled her tail, carefully noting the pattern of the bird's flight. Suddenly stopping her taunting, she reached forward with her sharp beak-like mouth, reaching for the bird's wing!

The attack took Sybille off guard. Way off guard. She was going to maneuver through the Cranidos but then it snapped at her wing, threatening to tear it off. Sybille flailed in the grasp on his teeth, feeling completely vulnerable.
"Sybille! Make a down an up. You have that Cranidos right where you want it!" Rin encouraged the Swablu, trying not to flinch at the sight she was seeing. That Cranidos was certainly well trained. But while keeping someone pinned at close range they have to remember that their opponent is still existent.
Sybille barely heard Rin, but she already knew what to do. Powering up her beak she looked directly at the Cranidos and started to peck viciously at it's face with Fury Attack.

Ferrum growled fiercely through her clamped jaws as the bird pecked furiously at her nose, eyes, and ears. But still she clamped on despite the devastating attack.
Jackie was at a loss for words. Finally, she found her tongue and addressed her pokemon, "Ferrum! If you're not going to get out of there, you better do a Crunch!!" She sighed as she watched the carnage unfold, and winced as Ferrum's face wounds began to ooze blood. Sometimes she was so stubborn...
Ferrum had just that idea in mind. She let go for just a second, to get a better grip on the bird's wing. If I can grab it, she won't be able to fly again! Ferrum growled.
