Pumpkin, as she called herself for her nickname of Pie seemed only suited to friends and she had none, was wandering through the forest on this strange day. The sun was filtering through the branches of the trees and creating strange watery shadows on the misty forest floor. There had been a cold winter rain the night before and it had left the orange female wet, cold, and miserable.
A life alone it seemed was no life at all but a struggle and a horror she was forced to endure. Company of any sort would be welcome for she had fallen into a state of silence that was most unhealthy. Her schedule consisted of waking to find her meal and laying near a source of water to gaze at her own lonely reflection and eat and drink and often bathe in the stronger running waters. At night she slept again and dreamed fitful dreams of finding company and in the morning she never did.
This morning she expected to be no different then the last and so she went down to the nearest stream and started to lap at the cool clear water gazing into her reflection and frowning at her markings again. How odd I am that I am marked as is forever smiling, yet I cannot recall the last time I did such a thing.

Leez0rz Xenon, a lightly build skunk immitating male wandered through the forest. His steps were light, as if he were trotting through the misty forest. There was no bare dirt to distract him! He was sure of it. With all the grass covering the dirt, he couldn't possibly get distracted now.
He raised his head to look around, his silver eyes darting about the area. His ears perked up to listen to his surroundings. Everything seemed normal to him, except the underlying thoughts to go rolling in dirt. His head dropped to align with his broad shoulders as he continued to walk through the forest.
Opening his maw, his fleshy-mauve colored tongue drooped out from his mouth. He was getting kind of parched from all this walking. He decided it would be best to find the nearest water source. His tail twitched behind him as he raised his head once more to listen for water. His eyes closed briefly, letting his senses lead him to the water. When he finally got a sense of where the water source was, he lightly jogged towards the direction of the water.
Coming out of the forest, he stopped and looked around. His eyes found an orange wolf not too far off from him. Moving his gaze away from the wolf, he creeped up to the water, keeping his tail and head aligned with his body making him seem as less threatening as possible. He moved closer to the water's edge and dipped his head down to lap at the water.

Pumpkin's head popped up from the water her ears perking and her whole body going rigid. There were noises, the sounds of another approaching, but not a bear nor a deer. This was the sound of another wolf! Company it seemed had come at long last!
She spotted the dark male with the white markings quickly and stared at him a long moment uncertain what to do or say. Hello!, but nothing came out through her mouth and for a moment she had the terrible thought that her voice would fail her for it had been so long since it was used.
"He-hello?" She tried again in a whisper before perking up a bit. "Hello!" She called out stronger this time. She hoped the male was in the mood for company, if not perhaps she could follow him and hope he led her to other wolves.

Snapping out of his trance from drinking the water, he moved his up and blinked, turning his head to look at the wolf close to him. He tilted his head slightly, his maw hanging open slightly. "Hallo!" He barked out slightly, his tail twitching behind him slightly.
Slowly, he moved away from the water and padded close to the femme. His ears were cocked forward, but he seemed friendly enough. He came at a distance the he assumed would be comfortable enough for the female as he lightly sniffed her to familiarize himself with her. His tail twitched behind him yet again as he made a circle around her, lightly sniffing her, yet cautious enough to not nipped at.
He raised his head slightly and looked at her. She was definately different from the wolf he met before. He was a.. he and now this one was she. How interesting! His ears twitched lightly on his head as he sat in front of her. "How are you?" He asked.

"Nice to meet you!" She blurted out watching him as he circled and watched her. It was so nice to vocalize with someone other then herself she smiled slowly her muscles a bit confused by the action. Her jack o lantern markings appeared to take over her face with the smile.
"I'm...I was ...alone, but your here now and I'm happy...happy." She was indeed happy to have company, but feeling uncertain as to what to say or do. She pawed nervously at the ground and looked the male over again this time taking in the white stripes and his pink nose. "How are you? Where did you come out of? Are there more wolves that way?" She suddenly had a thousand questions she wanted to ask him. Yet she slowed herself and waited, not wanting to chase away her only company. Her tail moved wildly behind her making a small dust storm.

Xenon just looked at her at her nervousness. It wasn't like he was going to hurt her. His flicked against the earth. He went quiet, wondering if he introduced himself. His mind drew to a blank. "Did I introduce myself?" He said with hesitance, not liking his forgetful memory.
The wolf just listened to her ramble. His silver eyes curiously looking at her as she babbled. "I see. Everyone gets lonely sometimes. I'm by myself and I don't mind." His tail flickered against the dirt once more. "I'm okay, kind of a little bit of everything. I'm hungry, tired, sleepy, thirsty, bored, nauseated...." He blinked and paused. He stood up and motioned with his nose. "I came from over there. I don't know if it has a name, I just came from there." The machine gun of questions kind of got to him and had to take it slow. "eehh.. Wolves? I didn't see anything." The wolf inhaled some of the dust and sneezed. His eye twitched as he eyed the dirt and moved away slightly. DIIIIIRT. He tried to control his urge to roll around in it. Why was it so hard?! He tilted his head up to look at the sky. The sky had no dirt! What a boring place that must be.

"No, but neither did I...I'm Pumpkin Pie." She listened to him wondering how he could stand being alone. She didn't like it one bit and as soon as she found herself some more wolves she would make sure she was never so completely lost and alone again.
"Hungry, Thirsty, Sleepy? Nauseated? Maybe if you ate and drank you would get back some energy and not feel so sick? Or maybe if you sleep it will help get rid of your sickness and hunger and thirst?" She tilted her head at the eye twitch wondering what this wolf was staring at in the sky.
"You won't be able to catch a bird...they are too fast...and too high" She nodded her tail still madly swinging so happy was she to be talking to someone.

Xenon just nodded. "Pumpkin Pie..?" He tilted his head wondering what 'pie' was. His tail twitched. "My name is Xenon." He nodded his head. "Now, it's nice to meet ya!" He gave a lupine grin, twitching his tail slightly.
"I will eventually. I was drinking, but I thought talking would be much more interesting, ya?" He said, wiggling his tail. He didn't notice the other's wolf's gaze as he stared up at the sky. He tilted his head slightly, figuring the dust had dissapated. "What made ya think I wanted to catch a bird?" He asked curiously. His nose wrinkled slightly as he walked around, being on his feet already. "It must be boring up there for a bird though." He nodded.

"Xenon, thats nice. It's nice to meet you Xenon." She still had her smile in place and his grin encouraged her cheerful attitude. How nice it was to be social at last! She glanced at him and tipped her nose towards the sky. "You were staring up there so intent..."
"Oh but being able to fly wouldn't it be amazing?!" She exclaimed, imagine a birds life boring? "What would you rather?" She was curious now how would he entertain himself, this ebony wolf with the ivory stripes.

Xenon nodded. His head tilted slightly. "Why are you called 'Pumpkin Pie'?" He hoped it wasn't a rude question. He was just curious. His eyes trailed after the ground, eyeing the strip of grass. At least there wasn't any patches of dirt exposed right now. He huffed lightly.
The wolf huffed. "I just.. get distracted easily." He muttered, supposing he could put it that way. His tongue peeked out of his mouth as he licked his maw.
His ears swiveled and twitched to her. "I don't think so. I would be cold up there and you'd be high off the ground." He wrinkled his nose. The wolf looked at the orange wolf and her odd, yet interesting markings. At least she wasn't as lazy as the other wolf he met, he had to admit. "What would I rather.. what?" He asked curiously, not sure what she meant. His gaze fell on the ground against, seeing if there was anything interesting there.

"I suppose I'm named for my fur color? The two leggers called me that when I hid in a patch of their vegetables I blended in with their Pumpkins and at night I would steal scraps...but they were...Their gone now." She nodded softly remembering how one group of two leggers had destroyed the other. She had wandered away after that afraid of the new ones and no longer was her name called for treats.
"It's easy to get distracted by the pretty things around us I suppose..." She sat down calm now that he was staying to converse with her. She glanced at the sky again and blinked. "Well if you were a bird you wouldn't care about being so high?"
She watched as his gaze dropped to the ground. "I mean what would you rather do, than fly?, that would be less...boring? As you put it." Her tail finally slowed down settling into a soft thumping pattern on the ground behind her.

Xenon just nodded his head. He wasn't exactly looking at her, but he could still hear her. "Hmmm. Two-leggers, eh?" He said in thought, not sure if he met or saw one before. Maybe once, but he wasn't sure.
The wolf's ears twitched slightly. "What's pretty?" He eyed a patch of dirt he had just found. It wasn't exactly pretty, but it felt good. His tail wagged slightly, his fixated on the patch of dirt. He turned his head quickly to keep his gaze on the female. "I wouldn't want to be a bird though." He just grinned. "Being a wolf is far more better."
He just shrugged his shoulders mildly. "I would dig. Interesting things can always be found in dirt. Sometimes food, pretty shinies, water and lots of stuff." He nodded. "Why do you like flying so much? Or seem interested in it."

Pumpkin followed his gaze to the dirt patch before explaining uncertainly. "Pretty is...umm nice to look at something that's beautiful." She nodded at her explination uncertain how else to phrase it.
"Being a wolf is better I suppose, I wouldn't know because I've never been anything else." She smiled at Xenon's logic and couldn't find any fault with it. "I've never found anything shiny in the dirt...have you found lots of shiny things?" She wondered if he had found anything that shone like the sun, or maybe like the water, or did they sparkle like morning dew?
"I'm interested in all sorts of things that I haven't tried...I wish I could try a little bit of everything. Besides from up there you could see everything down here and find your way no matter how lost or alone you are."

Xenon just grinned. "I know, but when you said we often get distracted by pretty things, I had to disagree." His tail twitched as he grinned. "Somethings can be unattractive, yet still be distracting." He grinned and twitched his tail.
The wolf blinked and thought about it. "Sometimes I do, but I rarely do. I found a clear rock one time, it was odd." He nodded his head. "I couldn't see if it sparkled because it was pretty small and sharp." He remembered cutting his tongue when he tried picking it up with his mouth.
"You always can try to do whatever you want. You still have time." He nodded his head. He stood up, getting a bit restless just sitting. "Can you give me an example of something you wanted to do?" He asked curiously. He wasn't very creative about doing things either.

"Like what? Scary things that distract you?" She felt her curiosity peak more and more as this wolf spoke. "A clear rock?" She wasn't sure if she believed him for she herself had never seen a rock that was clear like water. Could rocks be clear? Perhaps they could indeed now she wanted to see one for herself. "A clear rock...like water clear...hmm I wish I could have seen it."
She glanced around and then back to him. "Time yes, but somethings require more then time...like the way a bird can fly or a bear can climb a tree...we can't do that even with time." She chuckled at the mental image of getting herself stuck in a tree.
