Deep in the dense forests that expand outside the tiny rural town of Effort, Pennsylvania, an uninhabited mansion sits, surrounded by ominous gates. No one has lived there for at least the last 50 years-- not for any appreciable length of time, anyway. The record keeping has been poor, and nobody is entirely sure who has actually lived in the house. It is obvious that something is keeping people out, though nobody has been able to reveal what it is. It is believed that some parts of the building are structurally unsound, and currently the property values are not terribly high. Still, the mansion is mostly in excellent shape. Most of the people who know about the mansion are residents of the town, and their opinions differ as to why no one lives there.

Several fliers have been put up in the vicinity of Effort, in nearby high schools and one college campus. They are professionally decorated and laminated, and the background appears to be an actual photograph of an old, large, spooky house. They advertise a monetary reward in relation to the mansion.

"Bright, adventurous, curious individuals needed for an independent
investigation. An old mansion in the town of Effort is abandoned and
believed to be haunted. A handsome reward awaits the first
team of amateur investigators-- people like YOU-- who can prove that
the house is not haunted. We are not looking for skeptics. A
successful team will be able to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that
there is no paranormal activity within the house. Investigators will be
selected on a first come, first serve basis."

The flier continues with various other details. At the bottom is a signature coupled with the name "Marzipan Yui" in print, along with a local phone number.

Most people don't actually know anyone who lives in Effort, and not much is said about it in the news. Aside from being home to a few spelling bee champions, the local dog warden, and some students who attend the local schools, the only thing remarkable about it is how rarely it is mentioned. Still, the mansion is in that town, and it is where the investigation will take place.

A phone conversation with Marzipan Yui reveals the following details: $300 per person will be awarded to anyone who can stay one night 'til sunup in the old mansion. $900 will be awarded per person if the group stays for two nights. IF, however, the group can determine what has been keeping people away from the place, $2000 PER PERSON will be awarded, regardless of how long the group remains in the mansion. Miss Yui advises you to prepare for cold nights, and to bring anything necessary for two overnight stays. She adds that the bedrooms in the mansion should be available for use, and that the custodians, who live in Effort, will prepare your meals. They serve dinner early, since they avoid remaining in the mansion after sundown. Miss Yui has also offered to join the investigation, although she also has business to which she must attend.

OK, character app time!
Name: Who goes there?
Age: I'd expect characters from high school to early college age, but I can certainly make exceptions.
Appearance: I like pictures as much as anyone, but please make sure to use words mainly, for they are our true medium. (The other one just pretends to hold a seance.) Be descriptive... we do want to see your character, if only in our minds. Since this is winter, if you don't dress warmly, at least bring a heavy jacket.
Bio: Your character's history. What they've done, where they've been.
Personality: Prejudices, likes and dislikes, habits. Taste in females. Also, how your character can be expected to react in normal or abnormal situations.
Abilities and Achievements: You must be good at something. Then again, you can also show up unexpected and amaze people. Some good contributions might be languages, music... wait, don't ask me! They're your characters. Don't worry, if these don't help, you still have your wits with which to solve the mystery.
Stuff you Brought: Most characters will probably have some stuff packed for an overnight stay. You know that you will have free access to whatever accommodations still exist in the house, so whether you take a sleeping bag or just blankets is up to you. Pajamas, pillows, whatever. You can mention that here if you want to put some thought into it. Also, if your character has anything else interesting or useful (a diary or a flashlight), put it here.

Basic Summary: This is a site-based shoujo-ai roleplay with elements of mystery, spookiness and, of course, romance. Your in-game goal is to stick it out for a total of two nights in the spooky old house, or if you can pull it off, find out what prevents people from staying.

To Apply: PM me. If you try to put your app on this page, it will be ignored. Simply use the template provided in the first post. For example:
Name: Liza Strathmore

Age: 18

Appearance: Lithe and lanky, with roughly elbow-length black hair, Liza has a style often emulated but never surpassed. As she walks, her every step seems to follow a dance beat, and her tall, narrow frame seems to sway to a tune which only she can hear. Her preferred getup involves gray athletic legwear with blue stripes down the sides. In cold weather, she adds a shiny silver-colored jacket and a red baseball cap. She usually wears a lab coat over a red hoodie, and she always sports a pair of large headphones. The left earpiece has a sticker with a Rising Sun, while the right sports a phrase, "Våpen øker kjærlighet!", which she claims not to understand. She also requires reading glasses, but tries to avoid wearing them.

Bio: Her father was in the music industry, and she grew up with fantasies of DJing in techno clubs in Europe and Japan. Since her father had the resources, she was eventually able to fly to Norway with her father while he was backing some famous blues artists, but she has never been to Japan. Her family settled down not far from Effort, where she awaits her graduation from high school.

Personality: Liza's full of apparent contradictions. Though quiet and slightly shy, she is extremely well-liked. While she is not socially outgoing, she becomes the center of attention when she DJs at parties and club events. Despite being cool and modern (or perhaps because of it), her main influences are the classical composers such as Beethoven and Bach. Although people like the way her glasses make her look, she tries not to wear them. And even though people are always asking her questions, no one seems to know what truly lies in her mind or heart. She is generally considered good-natured and especially harmless, and tries to avoid socially dangerous habits like gossip, which may be what makes her so quiet. It is sometimes thought that she seems to tread on eggshells because she is afraid of hurting people's feelings. Still, it is rumored that there is another reason why she's so quiet. Supposedly, she asked someone out and was rejected. It is also rumored that she got rejected because she asked a girl.

Abilities and Achievements: Liza has a wonderful sense for popular music. She has a talent for choosing the right music, and her song choices always seem to fit the mood of a place. She is in demand at two or three popular spots, and the partygoers frequently remark about the excellent atmosphere, not always realizing it comes from the appropriate music. Some argue that she would have even more success if she would play a bit less techno. Also, her knowledge of classical helps her to better understand musical influences. Finally, she seems to be quite good at freestyle dancing.

Stuff you Brought: Her pink pajamas with the headset pattern go where she does. She brought a substantial sleeping bag and two oversized pillows. Also, she has brought her iPod with a stand and custom speakers, and an electric flashlight.

About Characters: All girls, obviously. I won't disallow male characters entirely, but females are needed. Try to keep them realistic. If they're good at something, fine, but no magic or incredible fighting skills. See the OOC thread for details. Exceptions will be made at my discretion, but not many.

Anyway... prepare to be spooked! domokun

Here are the character apps that have been accepted so far.

Player: Samantha McGill
Quote:
Name: Christian Lustbader (Real name: Alice Tiernan)
Age: 17
Appearance: Christian The first thing people usually notice about Chris is her bright red hair, which she keeps fairly short, rarely letting it reach her shoulders. It's about due to get trimmed. Her brown eyes almost look red sometimes. At five foot three, her height is pretty average, but she likes to think her most excellent posture makes her look taller. It doesn't. She's also very scrawny, with hardly a curve on her. She's wearing a bright green overcoat with a red and white striped scarf, some white mittens that make her hands completely useless, and a nice, warm wool cap, also in red and white. Honestly, it makes her look like an elf. Beneath the winter-wear, Chris managed to secretly copy her sister. She has a white buttoned blouse with a boring beige sweater, a black pleated skirt that no sane person would wear off a school campus without a good reason, grey wool tights and black ballet flats.
Bio: Christian and her twin sister, "Skai" (Real name: Sara), are the children of two highly accomplished artists. Sadly, those philistines in law enforcement don't exactly smile upon con artistry. The family has traveled over much of the country, moving whenever they draw too much attention. Despite her parents best efforts, it's rare for the family to spend an entire school year at one school. She's already been in four different high schools, each time going by a different name, using a different life story, and it's her junior year. Her parents used to use her in some of their schemes, but they haven't done so in years, and they are now trying to distance the girls from the "family business." This time, Christian got to choose the family name, and she chose Lustbader knowing it would annoy her sister without end.
Personality: Alice is trouble. She enjoys a good laugh at someone else's expense, and she's willing to lie, cheat, or even steal to get her way. She enjoys taking advantage of people and stirring up trouble, especially when her sister's the victim. Her favorite hobby is to take advantage of the fact that she and Sara are identical twins. She doesn't try to do any real damage; she's just having some fun. However, sometimes, her antics get out of hand and people get hurt. Still, she rarely apologizes because it would mean admitting she was wrong. She is a die-hard skeptic, absolutely convinced that there is no such thing as ghosts or goblins or bigfoot. Maybe aliens, but that's different. In school, she's been in almost every kind of club at least once, but rarely more than that. She tries to fit in her entire high school career's worth of influence into a couple months, gathering a posse to take the groups she joins by storm and leading them in whatever way amuses her. After all, she'll probably be in another state before she'd be forced to clean up the mess.
Abilities and Achievements: At her last school, Alice managed to make the track team, which might be impressive to someone who had never seen that school's track team. While she isn't a star, she can still run faster, farther, and longer than most. She hasn't gotten much out of the many clubs she's joined, though she has found some small talent on the drums. Beyond that, her musical talents are nil, and her singing? Ugh. Agonizing. She couldn't carry a tune to save her life. She also knows a lot of daddy's old tricks, and she fancies herself a bit of a card shark. She knows her way around confidence schemes, marked cards, pickpocketing, slight of hand, among others, and she enjoys using them. Her true passion in life, however, is acting. She's a born actress, with a deep love of theater, especially Shakespeare. It's also taught her to be an epic liar.
Stuff you Brought: Not one to trust the beds in an abandoned mansion, Alice brought her own sleeping bag and pillows. The rest fits in her back pack. She has two days' worth of clothes for herself, and for some strange reason, she packed two extra sets identical to the ones she brought herself. She also has her pajamas, which are suited to a much warmer corner of the world. They consist of a tank top and light matching pants, both in powder blue. She has some of the basics of personal hygiene (tooth paste, deodorant, hand sanitizer, etc.), a basic makeup kit with a mirror, a little keychain flashlight, three decks of cards, two of them marked, and twenty dollars in dimes with three packs of M&Ms (a.k.a. edible poker chips). To maintain some semblance of detective work, she tossed in a pen and a pocket note pad.

Player: Saria Mithril
Quote:
Name: Skai Lustbader (alias for Sara Tiernan)

Age: 17

Appearance: Skai - Skai has the Tiernan eyes that are violet in the right light and brownish otherwise, and she knows how to move her head in just the right way to make the violet shine when she wants something. She also knows just the right way to toss her brilliant red shoulder length hair. She has been cursed with the same short, athletic body as her sister, and usually has a calm but serious expression on her face. She is wearing black ballet-style flats, grey knit wool tights, a black pleated skirt with pockets, white button up top, beige sweater over top, all under a long beige coat, black wool gloves, and a red wool shawl scarf.

Bio: At a young age, Skai rejected her parents' profession - they are con artists - and decided that she would make something spectacular of her life. Even though she and her sister were moved from school to school all of their lives whenever her parents felt the law was getting too close, Skai always worked hard to make herself a respected member of the student body....... even knowing that she would probably have to give it all up and start over in a matter of months. As a result, she has a string of scholastic achievements under her belt..... even though she is the only one who knows about them, because her old records do not become a part of each new identity. Skai's current last name - Lustbader - was chosen by her sister...... and it annoys her to no end.

Personality: Skai is intense, ambitious, and arrogant - always striving to be the best at everything she does. But at the same time she is very reserved, and shy - because she knows that any friends she makes will have to be abandoned forever in a few weeks, she does not believe in getting close to anyone. She is very much a nerd, and she is always nitpicking about details, worrying about propriety and due process, and generally trying to show off how smart she thinks she is. But while she is book smart, she is still constantly falling victim to the stunts her sister pulls to torment her. Skai is not simply content to stay the two nights, she wants to solve the mystery. She does not really believe in ghosts, but she pretends she does for the sake of annoying her skeptic sister.

Abilities and Achievements: Skai learned the same basic confidence-scamming skillset that Alice did when they were young, but she has retained only a very superficial grasp on it. Her greatest asset is that she is a voracious reader and first class student, which means she is jam-packed with random factual knowledge and numerous fictional stories (which sometimes aid her imagination in running away). Because of all the clubs she has joined, she has a random collection of minor talents that she is proud to display, such as playing piano and flute, crafts and dance.

Stuff you Brought: Skai has her own sleeping bag and pillows (her mother insisted that if her sister was going to bring one, so should she), a small travel kit with hygeine basics, a small makeup kit just for doing basic touch up work, two extra sweaters, an extra pair of tights, a pair of slacks, spare underwear, two bags of rice chips, two Twix and two Mars bars. In preparation for what she hopes will be a ghost-hunting/debunking job that she will accomplish (and write about in the school paper) she has a backpack full of supplies: a laptop, a notebook and pens, a small digital camera, a magnifying glass, a magnet, a flashlight, an IC audio recorder (technically an MP3 player than can record as well, so it has some of her music to listen to, and space set aside for reporting) to "report" on the experience. Onto the laptop she has downloaded a collection of information from the Internet on ghosts and ghost hunting. From her reading on ghosts and haunting, she also has three additional tools - a pyramid-shaped crystal, a pendulum (both bought from a new-age store), and an EM detector (bought from a hardware store, normally used to find live wires in walls). The book that suggested these tools - a book on hunting ghosts and spirits - is also in her backpack for reading and reference.

Player: DeirdreTonbo
Quote:
Name: Katie Holbrooke
Age: 24
Appearance: By all appearances, Katie fits into a blonde-haired blue-eyed stereotype. She has, quite naturally, the sort of white-blonde hair that people attempt to achieve through boxes of bleach and dye. Normally casual in dress, Katie arrived at the house in dark jeans, a white blouse beneath a leather jacket, and comfortable boots.
Bio: An aspiring ballet dancer, Katie currently has a job working with children, teaching basic dance. She has yet to be discovered by a dance troupe, though that is her dream. The young woman has been taking care of both herself and her ill mother since she was sixteen, forcing her to drop out of highschool before graduation. The death of Katie's mother left her alone in the world, but allowed her to take up her passion of dancing once again.
Personality: It takes some time for Katie to warm up to strangers; she is uncomfortable being thrust into unfamiliar social situations. Though she knows she likes girls, she doesn't really have enough dating experience to know what she is looking for in one.
Abilities and Achievements: As a dancer, Katie brings her capabilities in ballet. While not specifically helpful in a supposedly haunted house, she is athletic and flexible due to her training.
Stuff you Brought: Katie arrived at the old mansion on her motorcycle with a backpack containing those things which she felt were important. Within the backpack she has a change of clothes, mp3 player, two flashlights (backup batteries as well), wet-naps, a spiral-bound notebook, pencils, and laptop.

Player: ashesxinxaxbrokenxcircle
Quote:
Name: Caroline Weathers
Age: 21
Appearance: [Caroline] If you were to ask anybody in Effort about Caroline Weathers, the first thing you are most likely going to hear is “You mean that frightening woman with those large silver eyes?” That is the main feature about this young loner that seems to appeal yet strike fear into the local folks. Not to mention her deviously seaweed coloured hair hanging no longer than to her skirt covered rear. That’s all she wears. Black and green… as if she were some rare poisonous species of spider.
Caroline stands at an awkwardly intimidating height of five foot four inches, yet her posture poses a threat upon your inwardly impression of this young woman. She stands obsessively proper and walks as if gliding amongst feathery clouds.
Rarely, you see her legs for they are completely encased by thin, very erratically designed leggings, preferably the colours teal or ebony. Her ears are overtaken by a variety of piercings... who knows where else she has them.
Bio: Caroline was born and raised in Munich Germany as a foster child in the home of the Weathers’. Any previous knowledge of her real mother and father are unknown for she was traded like a hand-me-down from home to home until Mary-Ann and Frederick Weathers decided to take in the young girl. She grew up in an abused state of mind fearing even the family she lived with. At the young age of ten, with family, Caroline flew down to Pennsylvania due to her foster father’s job and made it her permanent home since. Now, at the age of 21, Caroline has graduated from High School and now works in her foster mother’s florist shop as a delivering lady. She despises the place she lives namely for the main reason that she cannot relate to anybody there. She longs for excitement and for a final chance for something amazing to happen.
Personality: Caroline lived in a Christian family, yet secretly she thrived as an Agnostic person. She isn’t too keen on politics and absolutely hates anything that deals with ignorant beings. Also, Caroline is a closet bisexual and has never really spoken of it to anyone. When she was sixteen she had tried her hand at talking to a senior at her High School whom she had felt great attraction to, but that took a sharp, deadly turn for the worst.
Caroline enjoys the quiet type and loves the feeling of being able to provide and protect. She is given happiness by bringing it to others’, but she isn’t very good at socializing, so those two kind of contradict each other quite a lot. When something goes wrong, Caroline feels remorse and stress, but tries her best to figure out and fix the problem. Though the green haired woman has an outwardly frightening appearance, she, inside, is just like everybody else with fears.
Abilities and Achievements: Caroline was a amazing academically and has quite the imagination. Whenever she is in thought, the urge to sketch out her ideas is strong and most of the time she gives in to them.
She has devoted large amounts of her time in orphanages in hopes of figuring out her own past. Also, Caroline is quite the angel in music and can sing brilliantly, though she does deny her talent and often keeps it to herself. Rather, she keeps everything to herself.
Stuff you Brought: Her sketch book, mp3 player, a little duffel bag carrying a silken night gown, and two days worth of clothes. A bag of toiletries and her lap top. Also, a pack of cigarettes because she has a terrible habit of smoking when stressed out or bored.

Player: Vivicas---d i a r y
Quote:
Name: Sienna(Si) Woodson
Age: 20
Appearance: Si has chin length, layered chestnut brown hair. Her face is round, and her cheeks have a natural peachy-pink glow. She has a big, almost childish smile that seems to never end. Her eyes are suiting, large and round, the colour of hazelnuts. Hewr skin is milky white, but has a tendency to go red easily (i.e. when she is embarrassed, excited, nervous, very happy). She is an average height, 5'4", and fairly slim. Her body is lacking vuluptuous, womanly curves, but she works with what she has. At the house, she is wearing an oversized black leather biker's jacket that her older brother gave to her when he moved to Europe. Undernath the jacket she has on a cream coloured sweater and soft pink t-shirt. A pale green scarf, sent to her by her brother from Germany, wraps around her long neck. She has a pair of matching gloves and a purple toque stuffed in the pockets of the jacket. She has on a pair of straight-legged plain-washed jeans, and black doc martin boots covering red fuzzy socks to keep her feet warm.
Bio: Si is in her second year of University as a Visual Arts major. After getting her BFA, she hopes to get a degree in education and teach high schoolers how to love art. She grew up in a rural setting with her older brother and Father, her Mother having left the family when Si was a very young age. The leaving of her Mother never really troubled her, because she always had her brother. when her Dad got mad, or drunk, her brother was always there to look after her. Everything she does is a way to make him proud. When her brother moved to Europe, with no particular plan, Si was torn, but forced herself to continue with her dreams. She has a part-time job at a coffee shop, and this cash, plus whatever her brother sends her at random times, manages to get her by.
Personality: Si has a strong dislike towards people who disrespect the arts, understandably enough, and has no problem saying so. She is very strong-minded, and will often show it. She loves to meet new people and often times come on a little strong. But, in the end, she is a (fairly) non-judgemental, caring and sweet person, as well as an excellent listener. In a situation regarding anything out of the ordinary, Si would probably be the one jumping head first into it all.
Abilities and Achievements: Visual Arts are certainly one area in which Si excels. She is able to conquer any medium she tries, thus far including:charcoal, painting, sketching/drawing and sculpting. She is also an avid sewer/knitter (just a habit she picked up to save money on clothing). She is able to speak bits and pieces of German, as her brother has a fascination with the language.
Stuff you Brought: Si comes with a sketch book and pack of pencils. She never leaves without them. She has also brought copious amounts of yarn and her knitting needles, for entertainment purposes, and an emergency sewing kit. She has a home-made sleeping bag, 2 pillows (both cases self-sewn), a flashlight with 3 sets of extra batteries, a few books she took from her school's library(How to Expel Unwanted Hosts, A History of the Supernatural and So, You have Ghosts), an extra blanket, a lap top, a high-priced SLR digital camera she borrowed from her dorm mate, who is a photography major, A garbage she stuffed with random snacks (chips, chocolate bars, carrot sticks, apples, jello and pudding mix, 2 six-packs of fruit punch juice boxes, and a variety of tea bags), one pair of extra underwear, 3 pairs of extra socks, an extra sweater, t-shirt, and sweatpants.

Rules for Posting:

Character ID:
-When you post in character, put your character's name between two tildes at the top of the post:
Quote:
~Liza Strathmore~

Just to avoid confusion. It could be as long or short as you want, just so long as it appears in your character app.

Prompting the Mod/GM: (that's me)
-If your character is going to open a door into an unexplored room, or examine something that I haven't already explained in detail, or find out if the voodoo incantation you read out of a book actually does something, etc., indicate that in your post so I can describe it further. For example:
Scenario 1: Liza opens a door into a new room.

WRONG: xp
Quote:
Liza threw open the door and ran into the room, where she saw a scary ghost so she beat it to within an inch of its life.

Quote:
GM: OK, back up. First off, that door was locked. Try again, and this time behave yourself.

WAY BETTER: biggrin
Quote:
Liza decided to get the element of surprise, so she broke into a run, slowing down just enough to grab the handle properly and throw the door open.

Quote:
GM: (The door opens freely and bangs against the wall. Inside the room, a bunch of wooden crates are strewn across the floor. Uh... and there's, um... a spooky ghost. Oh yeah. cool )

Quote:
Liza courageously ran through the open door and, in an act lying somewhere between valor and savagery, stole the ghost's pokeemanz.

Why do this? Because you can't act on information that you don't have:
Quote:
Liza said, "Ooohh, I LOVE chocolate!" She grabbed the box and emptied the contents into her mouth, swallowing all of it before anybody else could get some.

Quote:
GM: ... That wasn't a box of chocolates. It was a tin of 112-year-old rat poison... sweatdrop Better call 911... and good luck getting coverage in the forests of Effort.

Of course, if you're just throwing darts or singing the blues, the outcomes of those actions are still up to you. This rule is mostly for things that "belong" to the house.

Frequency of Posts:
I will be around on a (more or less) daily basis to explain situations, run my NPCs, and generally cause the game to work. This thread may not be lightning-fast; if you can post three times a week each, I'll be mad happy. I will respond to posts involving me as soon as I get them. I don't think I'll see a need to bug people, but there may be occasions where I'll PM you to tell you about an in-game event that other people don't necessarily need to know about. (Your character can always tell them later, if need be.)

The year is A.D. 2008. The forests of Effort, Pennsylvania are cast in their inimitable evening colors. The fading sun leaves a purple hue in the clouds and leaves the trees under their blanket of snow. Among these trees lies what is known as the Effort Mansion, where an investigation is about to take place. The amateur investigators have been instructed to find out what prevents anyone from residing in the house.
At the beginning of the huge clearing that contains the mansion stands a young woman named Marzipan Yui, whose small frame and delicate features are contrasted by her heavy fur coat and her yellow H3 parked nearby. Her complexion was pale enough that its color could have been mistaken for a result of Effort's pervading frost. She stood waiting for the investigators that would, she imagined, be spending two consecutive nights in the house.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 24, 2008 6:18 pm

~Sukari Endshaw~

Sukari's eyes are closed as the taxi drives her towards the mansion in which she'd be staying for a minimum of one night, though she planned to stay for three to four days. The driver woke her as they approached, just like she'd asked him to. She stared towards the now visible mansion and wasn't sure if there'd be any presense there or not.

After unloading her bags from the trunk, she paid the diver the agreed fee and watched as he drove away as quickly as was possible, or safe. She stood for a moment to get a feel for the air and also to wake herself up properly.

~Caroline Weathers~
The eyeliner kept smudging. Nothing had been going well for Caroline at all this morning, and now as the day had carried lazily into the evening, her car began to malfunction. The air conditioner, when turned on, blew out hot, choking air that made her face warm and sweat layered. It took at least five minutes for her to even get it off. Caroline dealt with the uncomfortable temperature in her shiny, silver Volvo as she sped carelessly down the highway leading ominously towards the mansion in which she would hopefully be spending two long, "frightful" nights.
She wasn't scared. She had told herself that repeatedly while packing her travel bag and applying her daily coating of mascara and eye liner. She even had to repeat it once more in the car at that very moment, but she wasn't scared. No. She was quite very excited. This would be something relating to her many passions in life. After all... her foster parents had often told her that she would do much better off in some dark, morbid horror movie world than inside a Christian-breed family. Many a time she had considered doing just so, yet not quite sure of how to.
Caroline squinted her eyes tightly together until a wrinkle was born in the middle of her light brow. She focused on the crowded, ghastly trees aligned like a funeral reception on the left side of the road. She could see the standing of a large structure. Most likely the mansion she would be spending her evening in. As she took a left turn heading towards the building, she knocked around a few thoughts in her mind. Just how many people were going to be there? Though, more importantly, could she stay two nights in the mansion?
Caroline preceded to park beneath a large oak tree about a mile away. She felt more comfortable with her vehicle out of site and her walking up with her baggage. Stepping from the car, the green haired young woman unlocked the trunk and grabbed her items, closed it and then began walking towards an exciting adventure.

~Skai Lustbader~

"Now I don't care what antics you get into," the girl named Skai told her sister as she pulled their mother's car into the driveway of the Effort Mansion, "As long as you stay out of the way of my investigation. Got it? I want that prize money, which means I have to figure out what's going on, which I won't be able to do if I have to put up with your crap the whole time."

Her sister, currently named Christian, was in the passenger seat next to her, and Skai seriously doubted she was listening. That did not stop Skai from continuing the lecture as she brought the car to a stop, roughly turning the key to silence the radio - which had been playing Christian's music the whole drive, much to Skai's disdain - opened the door and moved to take her bags out of the back seat.

"I mean it, Alice," Skai kept her voice low, as she leaned into the rear door to retrieve her bags, "Stay out of my way."

~Christian Lustbader~

Christian ignores her sister and even her own music. After battling her sister for control of the radio, she's just gone off into her own little world, occasionally saying something in the affirmative to look like she's listening. It's been the same speech ever since they left home. Sara... no, Skai now. She couldn't possibly believe they're going to find ghosts here.

"Yeah, yeah... Oh, I got it! Some guy had a one night stand with an entire cult based at that house, then they all fell madly in love with him, so he broke all their hearts and they committed mass suicide in that house... No, they killed each other competing over him... And he got caught in the crossfire, so the rest killed themselves! All on top of an Indian burial ground, of course."

On the way over, Chris decided on a different approach. No one in their right mind would seriously set up a ghost hunt, so they must just be looking for a good story to turn this place into a tourist attraction. So far she's brought up half a dozen haunted house stories, each cornier than the last. She gets out and pulls her own stuff from the back seat before slamming the door shut with her hips. Or her lack thereof.

"Even better. The last cultist finds out Mister Perfect's married and a total p***k, so it ends in a murder-suicide."

~Katie Holbrooke~

Katie cruised down the road beneath the trees on her motorcycle, visor lowered on her helmet causing it to reflect the sky back at anyone looking at her. She was attentive for any wildlife, though she thought she saw a disconcerting lack of anything she expected to see in the woods. Just her imagination of course, the woods were just a woods. Like any woods. With a haunted house in it.

Easily she steered around a car (Christian and Skai) as it parked, flicking her lights off as she rolled to a stop. Probably by the time they got out of the house her bike would be on it's side, but she kicked the stand out anyway and stepped off.

Though her figure was lean, all legs in her jeans, it was clear she was female despite the leather jacket that was protecting her from the cold and the wind on her bike. With her helm still on, Katie turned to survey what she assumed to be their employer, taking the woman in for a moment with the reflective visor keeping her expression to herself. When she was satisfied with that, Katie turned to regard what she could only guess was her competition. Most of them were unloading bags (as in, more than one? crap.) and sleeping bags. Feeling like an idiot, she hadn't even thought to bring a blanket, Katie removed her helmet and shook her pale blonde hair loose.

~Sienna Woodson~
Si had wanted the taxi driver to drop her off at the haunted mansion, but the overly superstitious Effort resident refused to even turn onto the same street as the house. Si pleaded, even offering extra money which she of course didn't have. But the balding, slim man still refused to take her all the way to her destination.

She found herself staring at the bumper of the taxi fading down the street with a pained look on her face, 2 large duffel bags, and an over sized backpack. She tossed the pack onto her back, and slung a duffel bag on either shoulder. The wait strained her entire back and arms as she lugged herself down the street, grumbling about how inconsiderate people can be when they're afraid of a little haunting.

Not so soon, she saw the house in the distance. As she got closer, she noticed a blonde woman along side a motorcycle (which caught her interest, of course, she loved bikes) and a car with two girls fretting about it. She too would be getting out of a vehicle right now, if the driver hadn't gotten scared off. She swore to herself that if she did meet any supernatural beings she would ask them to curse that taxi driver.

She finally reached the driveway and plunked down all her bags. She gazed at the large, vintage home with a look of wonder. So this was where she would be staying for the next few days. She took a deep breath and gave a smirk to no one in particular. She proceeded to drag her bags up the drive way, flashing her inviting smile in the direction of all the other girls congregated here.

The bag Caroline carried was rather light considering she had quite a good amount of items with her. This items, minus the clothes, were all to keep the twenty year old entertained. Though it was supposedly a "haunted mansion," the teal-haired young women knew there was a possibility of hand-time when nothing interesting what so ever would be happening, and Caroline didn't want to be left in a pit of boredom. She'd rather sit through her foster father's long and very descriptive lecture on what to do and what not to do when an elderly woman is being robbed. It was actually very informative.
Adjusting the amazingly light-weight duffel bag, Caroline followed a small trail of crushed leaves, noticing several young women walking towards the front of the mansion. This was her competition? This couldn't be it. Her silver eyes flashed with pure delight. "This should be a snap." Caroline whispered softly to herself, the German accent she held lacing carefully through each word spoken.

~Skai Lustbader~

Skai rolled her eyes and ignored her sister's silly fantasizing. If that was how she wanted to amuse herself, fine, it kept her out of Skai's hair. Skai had not been happy that Christian had insisted on coming along, but she realized that her sister might actually help her efforts. There was no denying that her sister had a razor sharp mind, and, like Skai, a keen eye for a scam - a product of their shared upbringing. But in addition to that, Christian's antics would probably distract the others, making them less likely to be serious competition.

Skai glanced at the others as they walked toward the house, noting with amusement that one seemed to come in on foot - driving with her sister was no picnic, but it was still better than walking. Then, carrying her things, she walked up to the one that looked like she was in charge, the one that seemed to be waiting expectantly.

"Good evening........ Miss Yui?" Skai said, holding out her free hand, "I'm Skai Lustbader, and this is Christian. Thank you for having us."

~Marzipan Yui~

The young woman in the heavy fur coat smiled with her soft blue eyes. Despite the usual Effort chill, she seemed to have a great deal of warmth about her.

"How do you do?" she responded, stepping forward and offering her hand to Skai. "I can see my 'investigation team' is arriving. Yes, I'm the organizer for this group. You are welcome to call me 'Miss Yui...' or 'Marzipan,' if you like." She nodded her head sympathetically. "I know it sounds a bit strange."

Skai laughed, and brushed a strand of hair back behind her ear - a nervous habit of hers - while shaking Miss Yui's hand. "No stranger than Lustbader, I assure you," she said, casting a brief, sour look at Christian.
