So I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to what I'm going through.

I'm converting. I grew up as a Lutheran and I'm going through the steps to become Catholic. In the classes I'm taking conversion is defined as giving something up from your past to embrace something new. In this case, I should be giving up my Lutheran religion to become Catholic.

But I don't feel like that. At all o_O

I feel like I'm gaining something, a new way to worship but I'm not giving up what I have. I still feel like a Lutheran. I feel at home in Lutheran churches, I feel comfortable.

To put it very geek-like, I feel like I'm playing a game (Life being a game) and by becoming Catholic, I feel like I have a new card of sorts to play. But I also have my Lutheran card too. Both of these make my deck leet.

So, I'm wondering if it's okay to feel like this?

you are you and should stay you (that would be whomever you think you are)
and you can worship any way you want
and adding to your deck of cards will only make you a stronger person
continue to learn about our world and it's wonders
you may be suppressed what bits and peaces of other religions you may find interesting

each Christian has to develope their own beliefs. once you get a good idea what yours are, then find a church with that kind of 'system' for lack of a better word and attend, all the while seeking the advice of older, more experienced Christians.

You shouldn't really have to give up anything. Don't forget Lutheran and Catholic are the same religion, just slightly different beliefs and they worship in different ways. Different worship styles. I don't think you have to give up anything, all you'd really have to do is attend a Catholic church. You are welcome of course to attend a Lutheran church as well. You don't have to give up the other because it pracitically is the same belief system, but you would officially call yourself a Catholic. (Of course I really don't like the whole denomination seperation thing, so I always say I'm a Christian first but....)
My suggestion is to talk to your teacher in your classes and bring up your concerns. I'm sure he/she will understand and probably be able to provide better insight than me. If something still doesn't feel right, than perhaps Catholicism is not for you afterall.

I think it is fine to feel the way you do. When you go into the Catholic church you will go in with beliefs and ideas of a Lutheran, if you are converting with the knowledge that you are changing faiths, mabey it will not be so difficult. Good luck.

Well, while I'm a bit wary of this whole denomination thing. I'll take a stab at it.

You should believe only what is in the Bible. Nothing more, nothing less. If someone tries to tell you otherwise, well, they're trying to lead you away.

Also, that's not to say don't believe other stuff like historical facts or scientific ones. But as far as Christianity is concerned, only believe the Bible.

Now the Bible is interpretted in different ways by different groups. Some more correctly interpretted than others. Best thing to do is to use the greek and hebrew. But short of learning those languages and doing your own translation, you're going to have to rely on what you have.

Also, as was mentioned previously, different denominations worship differently. That's kinda up to you, how you worship.

Though I'm not sure if they do this anymore, I know at least some Catholics don't, but they used to or still do worship saints and the virgin Mary. The only person to be worshipped is Jesus the Christ who is God made flesh. Anyone tells you differently, they're lying.

I may have missed the point. But I stand by what I say.

Well, I am just a Christian. I havent gone into any of the different beleifs systems/differences of protestants, catholics, lutheran's, etc.

However, I know what your feeling! I have felt that before to! Trust me, it is 100% normal, and eventually the feeling will leave you. Just wait a couple weeks, it'll be gone for sure! ~Hope that helped!

They are actually quite different, which I will explain at the end of my post.

This does not happen in Lutheran churches, while it may in most Catholic churches. Not only that, but Catholics also rely on the Priest to forgive your sins instead of Jesus, who is the only One who can not only forgive our sins, but wash them clean! However, even though this is the case, I've heard that the early church started out as Catholicism (i.e. the apostles founded it), which is evident in their practice of communion. I'm not sure if Lutherans practice communion, and if so, how often, how it's done, etc.

Nonetheless, you need to take the time to come to a firm decision, and it will hard to go either way. So don't feel bad if you're feeling a little stressed and you need time to make that choice. My best advice is pray and think about it. And, again, do take your time.

No. Just... no.

Being a Christian is NOT about inventing your own little 'happy world' and finding a church that thinks the same way you do. Think about it. How can you derive Truth from such a strategy?

The Truth is the Word. The Word is the Truth. This should be a Christians complete, untampered, unedited, and wholesome foundation. No one can just pick what they like out of it and base their lives off of the small segments. That is almost blasphemy against our God.

Also, whether anyone likes it or not, Christians are not allowed to choose where they go to church. I repeat, real Christians have no say in where they go to church. Period. Allow God to guide you instead of yourself, and He will point you to your perfect foundation.

"We were made for eternity. This life on earth is but a vapor. Yet too many live as though there is nothing on the other side. Scriptural laws and principles may be applied to achieve success on earth, but are we prepared for eternity? Have we failed to remember we will all stand before the Great Judge of heaven and earth?"

Lutheranism stemmed from Catholicism, and Luther kept many of the traditions he was used to from being a monk. He removed the practices that he believed were unbiblical, so it's an easy transition from one to the other, save for the occasional insults some may throw.
