You have my vote, for Gibson.
Gibson offers many amazing guitars. The les paul and Sg and Flying V are probably some of the best sounding rock guitars. Some guitars trying to be like fender such as the single coil SG 3s fail. But the Gibson ES 335?!! that guitar was made for blues and rock.

Jimi hendrix being one of my favorites, he used a fender, but also gibson! Custom Sgs, les pauls, and of course, the hand painted FLYING V!
Also jimi pages gibson EDS and les paul... Slash's Les paul... and even Zakk Wylde (Which i hate with a burning passion) use gibsons.

it all depends, for the low budget musician the fender is the way to go, cuz the new melody fail, and there is so many more fenders to chose from, sure not as much as design but in diversity of electronics.
gibson has a whole lot of diffent bodies, but the electronics arn't as diverce... but what do i know, i'm just some kid that plays a fender and wants a gibson.

Gibson wins. Even though they are doing the very same thing that makes me hate Fender, at least Gibson's look cooler. And the Les Paul far out ranks anything Fender has ever done.

I like Fender. They're more affordable, and frankly, I just prefer them over Gibsons...TELECASTER FTW!!!

But favorite guitar brand over all, PRS hands-down.

I'd say Fender is used by a lot of musicians because of its different pickups, where as Gibson is for (I don't wanna say snob but...) the snob in all guitarists.
its a harsh view, but at the same time its true, look at it this way, Gibson is used as the base for all guitars in (god I cant believe I'm using this as an example) Guitar Hero.
secondly you can tell because most of the big names (Slash, Clapton, Jimmy Page and as it was mentioned earlier Hendrix)
Even though I've just started playing, I really do like some of Gibson's bodies, but all in all, I actually find myself drawn more towards either Fender or Ibanez (in terms of look) and the ones I've been looking at are a bit cheaper than Gibson.

They both are good choices and can do just about the same thing. People usually aruue about the whole Singlecoil vs. Humbucker thing. Both brands have things that can make them the same. For Fender there are Fat Strats and the Humbucking singlecoil, which sound the same as a Seymour Duncan or Dimarzio standard humbucker. Now for Gibson's you can get a guitar with P-90's or you can get a coil tab, which taps your humbucker to give it singlecoil tone. All in all they can be just about the same guitars for the same amount of money. Its really just what model you want the most or which one is more in your price range or most available features. Either one for me seeing as that I have both. Gibson Les Paul Custom and SG Deluxe, and Fender California Corona Strat and Scorpion Tele.

Ah ha! so now we have more gibson then fender vote i think... but remember, single coils aren't worse than humbuckers... it's all about what you want to play. These are probably the best brands hands down... better than PRS or ESP(since ESP is terrible :p) gibson has a lot of low price models, but strats are better to start out with. I own a BB king lucille, Sg custom, les pauls... and even a hendrix flying v.

secretly... i do own a fender lonestar...shh!

I have to go with Gibson. The only Fender I would buy would be the 1990 SRV signature Strat. But that's only because Stevie Ray Vaughn is my second favorite guitarist ever. (The first being a tie between Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani)
I currently own an Epiphone G-400 Deluxe, that I have absolutely fallen in love with. I also own an Ibanez ARC-100, and it just can't compare to the incredible sustain and tone that I get out of the Epiphone. I even like it better then the sound I get out of the Gibson G-400 models.

Personally though, I would go with Epiphone over either company though, and just mod it with the Gibson equipment If you really need the sound. They are the same exact guitars as the Gibson models, just way cheaper because of the headstock.
